Feb 21, 2010
"Installation for theme failed. Can't move directory over directory"permissions are read/write for all for my usr/share/themes directory. Not sure what directory it wants to move over for user installed themes though. Everything worked fine before and these themes too which are unchanged.gnome btwim also noticing a strange error when i load a theme "This theme will not look as intended because the required GTK+ theme engine is not installed"
I installed Startup Manager but the appearance and security tabs are missing. I really want to be able to change the resolution of the splash screen cause it looks all pixelated and I want to have the splash screen that 9.10 had.
I tried reinstalling and restarting but the issue remains. I know its somewhat functional because I am able to change the seconds that grub takes but when I try to change the resolution of the purple ubuntu startup screen it looks like it tries to change it but it fails.
I downloaded a theme from gnomeart, and in the readme it tells me to use "gdmsetup" to install it - however, when I try typing "gdmsetup" in the console, it says "command not found". How would I go about installing the theme?
So I have been thinking about switching to Ubuntu 32 bit, I currently running ubuntu 10.04 64 bit, I have been using it for a couple of months and it seems a little glitchy. Is 32 bit more stable? I just pisses me off cause when I install/uninstall something sometime my desktop UI appearence will change on me. Plus the firefox 64 bit flash is out of date, unless it has changed I read they stopped making flash for FF 64 bit.
I'm trying to install new themes on ubuntu but it tells me that GTK + themes 'ubuntulooks'is not installed and won't load up the themes as it should. I went to package manager and installed it but still doesn't work. Themes to be installed, either overglossed or sickness-black. environment ubuntu 10.04.
I need some help on changing my desktop to ICEWM. Want my laptop to run light as possible by using thunar, icewm panels and themes. I got it to change to ICEWM as the default window manager instead of compiz, but can't figure out how to change the panels, themes and file manager?
I installed some gtk-2 themes and was using the but after changing to a new theme they went away from the theme manager I checked in the theme folder they are still in there but only halve of the themes show up in the theme manager how do I get them all to show or at lest the ones I want to.
System>Prefrences right? It's not there? Everywhere I look It says it should be there,.. well it's not... How can I add it manually? or where is the folder? I would like to edit my themes.. I have a theme manager, but it doesn't load any themes I download..
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report. computer froze while i was downloading something and i cannot use synaptic package manager anymore. the dpkg message came up saying --configure0a was an unknow option
I'm a newbie in Linux (ubuntu) environment. Well my prob started as I tried to install several w-lan applications. I tried them out and deleted them again. Till (I don't remember the name of the prog) I finally shoot "network manager". I tried some things like: Second installation of ubuntu to get back internet. Downloaded some deb files and installed them in off-line mode.
But it doesn't work because some not satisfiable things happened now I tried to fix over USB live to fix it no chance. What I need is a possibility to install from USB on my first system or boot system one and USB on the same time to use the internet per switching or something like that. Maybe it's possible to update my system wile the USB system is running? Or is there a possibility to use the ubuntu CD and install all needet packages from there because network manager is already in Ubuntu. I think that all OS company's have to think about that , when they deliver a OS that you can choose or afterwords reinstall progs from the original source ...or what?
is there any way we can customize like we can customize in xp (desktop properties > appearance > advanced)i want to customize things like title bar height etc.
I would like to install a new icon theme without effecting my currently selected panel theme, as i think the Ambience panel theme looks really nice and unified but im not too keen on the Ubuntu-Mono icons. Is this easily possible, without going into my icon folders and replacing all the instances of one style for another? Are there any applications for gnome icon theming like OS X's Candybar?Im sure others must desire to change only the icons and perhaps it is really easy and this is why i couldnt dig anythin up on google, that or im a useless googler.
Since of late "Appearance preference" behaves awkwardly . Normaly It is supposed to show themes in /usr/share/themes right? but now it shows themes only in ~/.themes folder. I don't know what affected the change. how do I configure it as to show themes in /usr/share/themes/,?
Also whatever theme I use , Controls would stay same(Classic controls). They wouldn't be update to those of the Theme used.
This is the site where I went to find a theme [URL] And this is the one I'd like to install [URL] but I can't get it to work, can some one help me on this one,... Plus I'm pretty sure theres more people out there like me. So this would be very nice if some one tells us "how to". I like pidgin better, but empathy it's the default in ubuntu, and It comes with better integration with Gnome.
I'm trying to install these two Metacity themes: URL...They're .zip files, and when I go to drag them into Themes, it says they're not valid themes. If I can't install them this way, how do I install them?
Ok yesterday I had a problem where I tried to install some Emerald themes on Xubuntu 11.04. It did not work and in the process, all of my Windows Decoration was gone, the Maximize and Minimize buttons at the top of each windows were gone, as shown in the picture attached. I am done with emerald, I uninstalled, I just want my top windows bars back. I found a command for the terminal that fixed it, but when I turned my PC on this morning, the bars were gone again, and I had to reenter that command again. The command it 'xfwm4 --display=:0.0 --replace' that brings them back. Is there a way for my computer to automatically do that command or is there another permanent solution?
right I am using starx to get into KDE interface, I am able so choose other themese using "Appearance settings", but I have visited kde.org site and found some other themese, when I click to install them, I am getting tarballs, My question is how to install themes from that tarballs, what I need to do

I have Installed Plymouth: # apt-get install plymouth # /usr/sbin/plymouth-set-default-theme --list # /usr/sbin/plymouth-set-default-theme THEME # update-initramfs -u
Plymouth does not work. What went wrong? or what more should I do to make it work. Also how do I install themes to plymouth, which are not there in the theme package? I have come across this theme I really like but it is in tar.gz and I am looking for some guidance from the forum to run tar.gz packages.
I don't know how to install them but: I would like to know how do you install this specific theme [URL] And how to install other us plash themes in the future.
