Is there a way to upgrade Slackware 12.2 to 13.37 without having to download the new iso and making a new install? 'how to' Id like to read it. Or even a simple way to do a minimal install and then add the extra applications.

Not sure what's going on. I tried to use --clean and tried to use a different mirror, but still getting the error.
I tried to upgrade ubuntu from 9.10 to 10.04. It is almost complete downloading packages,but i get this error:Failed to fetch http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/poo...untu2_i386.deb The HTTP server sent an invalid Content-Range header [IP: 91.189.88.30 80]I tried to change from main server to US server, but I still get this error.

I recently upgraded to slackware-current from Slackware 13 via slackroll, and have only encountered one problem. My file manager no longer thumbnails images, and icons (mostly PNG) aren't appearing no matter what GTK theme is set. Running from the command line produces no errors, and when brought up in something else (say feh /path/to/icon.png) it works perfectly. This is the only hitch I have encountered so far. The same thing happens with emoticons in Pidgin. Does anyone know of a fix?
View 5 Replies View RelatedCurrently I have ubuntu 10.04 on a machine that is not connected to the internet, there is also no way I can get this machine on the net.I do however, have access to a machine that does have an internet connection.Is there a way that I can download an 'upgrade' cd or something? If you download the normal cd it doesn't give you an upgrade option, you have to then install the OS again from scractch. My main concern is to keep all my files and programs when I upgrade.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter burning the DVD of F11 for AMD64, I boot from it. After some choices, instead of going to read from the DVD it connects to the internet and tries to download packages. After some time it fails to read and goes into a loop for trying to read. If I interrupt this and skip the network section, it reports it can't connect to the internet. Why does it want to connect to the internet anyway when I've booted from DVD ? It didn't do that on x86.

I'm 100% certain this is possible - that's exactly what source-code repository tools like subversion and git are supposed to do. But Git is complex and that site doesn't seem to have an obvious (to me) method of doing part b)
I was very happy to see that dzen2 is now available on SlackBuilds.org because now I can use XMonad to its fullest. Unfortunately, sbopkg is not able to download the source code for dzen2. This is probably because the source is hosted on Google Code, which requires the user to click a second download link for some reason. I downloaded the source and the SlackBuild manually and installed dzen2 that way, and that worked perfectly, but I would really prefer to have sbopkg manage updates for me. Is there any way I could get this working? Perhaps I could just download the source manually, place it in the appropriate directory, and let sbopkg build it and manage updates, but I don't know which directory the source would go in or if this would even work.

I am using xfce desktop and terminal.
1) How do i check to see what is the default FTP Client used by Slackware12.2 when i type:
$ftp
2) How do i get ftp to download large files? > 2gb from ftp server elektroni.phys.tut.fi or any ftp server.
My internet connectivity is not that fast. Since I am using Squeeze, there will be very frequent updates.
My problem is that I am not able to download all the update in one go and to complete the upgrade. As the number of files to be downloaded and upgraded increases, I can't seem to be able to reach the end point to complete any update.
Can aptitude upgrade just the files that have been downloaded so far, and resume downloading the rest in the next attempt? MS Windows will update the OS with whatever patches downloaded without waiting for the rest if I prematurely shutdown the pc.
My system says an upgrade is available, but when I click on Upgrade, I get: Could not download the release notes Please check your internet connection.My web browser can access the network fine.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWas running the upgrade through the manager this morning and the download got about 3/4 of the way and froze up making the system unresponsive I left this for an hour to see if it would resolve its self but no luck so as the installation hadn't begun I hit the power button. BIG mistake now when I try boot to 9.10 it hits a black screen with white ubuntu logo much like 9.10 but no loading bar. it just hangs at this now. I am currently posting this from a live usb I made from an ISO of 10.4 i downloaded on my girl friends windows machine. Is it possible to either fix the 9.10 installation or update the files on the 9.10 installation to 10.4 from the live disk(I have the option to make a 9.10 live disk if needed)?
View 4 Replies View RelatedRunning 10.04 tried to upgrade to 10.10. Download ran for 6.5 hours then produced a failure message. Download speed varied all over the place from 30 kbps to 170 kbps but usually well below 100. Speedtest shows about 100 kbps in and out. Is there a way to drop back to 10.04 ad run the 10.10 download from scratch? Attempts to run the download now produce index error messages.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI was happily running F10 and against my better judgement when it offered to upgrade me to F11 I decided to give it a try. The F11 install hung at 893 of 1626 packages installed. Some SE Linux package was in process of install. On the next boot the installer fails to upgrade for a corrupted root. It says I can backtrack and do a full install, but crashes with a bug when I choose backtrack.
So here is my question - Can i edit the command line and tell the installer to full install rather than upgrade? Or am I stuck with downloading a DVD ISO and doing a full install that way. I've done F8, F9 and F10 so full install from DVD doesn't bother me.
I've ensured that all current 9.10 updates have been installed, then tried to upgrade to 10.04.The message "Unable to download release notes - please check your internet connection" appears.Clearly my internet connection is working.I have had problems with Network Manager in the past (it is less problematic recently - see bug #481432 for details).If so, how do I get the upgrade started?
View 6 Replies View Relatedtwo days ago I updated my desktop which has only Ubuntu as OS. Following the update, I chose to upgrade to 11.04 because it was offered on the software update window. The upgrade failed at nearly 4 minutes remaining in the download. Problem now is I cannot boot the system. It keeps taking me to Ubuntu flash screen with 5 options. The Ubuntu with Linux generic (whatever) indicates "Cannot open root device "sda1".

I have a slow and costly internet connection at home and don't want to download the upgrade directly onto my computer there.Is it possible to download the upgrade somewhere else and burn to a CD to run in my home computer? View 2 Replies View Relatedthis is not specifically a slackware related question, but since done on 2 slackware boxes... the situation is, i have one box for browsing and other desktop activities and another box acting as router/local server. what i want to achieve is that the router box would look on a nfs mounted folder for new *.torrent files (which i put there from the desktop box) and if there is a new file, it would start downloading it automatically. also a good thing would be if it would notify me when finished.so how would you go about itwhat torrent client would you use and so on? maybe someone has already done something like this?

For some reason, when I click on the Slackbuild link for virtualbox-kernel (3.1.6) for virtualbox-kernel-3.1.6.tar.xz , it downloads as virtualbox-kernel-3.1.6.tar.tar. The file is misnamed. If it is renamed virtualbox-kernel-3.1.6.tar.xz , the SlackBuild works just fine.

But then when i try to refresh my update cache, they fail to download. these are the list of software sources that fail to download:
