Slackware :: Sane Not Reading Dll.conf?

Jul 9, 2010

I'm trying to setup an Epson perfection 4490 photo scanner in Slack 13.1. I've got the appropriate iscan and epkowa driver and firmware. However it is not working: sane-find-scanner produces:Code:found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8 [EPSON], product=0x0119 [EPSON Scanner]) at libusb:001:004but scanimage -L finds nothing. After battling a lot with dll.conf and epkowa.conf I decided to run strace scanimage -L and to my shock it never tries to read dll.conf, instead it goes straight to read xerox_mfp.conf and does not try to read any other conf file in /etc/sane.dHas anyone come across problems with sane in 13.1 (or 13.0 as I tried this before upgrading with the same results)?

Slackware :: Sane - After Upgrade To 1.0.22 Cannot Find Scanner

Mar 24, 2011

I have a Samsung SCX-4200. It was working pretty good with sane 1.0.21. I'm using slackware current, keeping updated (almost) every day. On the Mon Feb 28 update sane was updated to sane-1.0.22-i486-1. After that update xsane (as user) cannot find my scanner. I was able to find it running sane-find-scanner as root, but scanimage -L (as root) wasn't able to find the scanner. Now I have updated to the last sane package, named sane-1.0.22-i486-2 . In the changelog I can see that this rebuild should add libusb support.

In fact, now there's no way to find the scanner. And now also sane-find-scanner (as root) is no more able to detect the scanner, also running the command as root. I've tried running sane-find-scanner -v -v and scanimage -v -v -L but I can't get no useful hints. I have checked the sane configuration files but always seems good (the row with USB IDs is not commented in the backend file, which is xerox_mfp, and the backend is listed in dll.conf).

Slackware :: Cups / Sane Server System Requirements

Jul 1, 2011

I have a 2010 model laptop running slackware 13.1, and after setting up a udev rule for my epson rx700 printer/scanner, this laptop can print to the rx700 without problems, and I can scan straight into gimp with xsane... I can even share the printer and scanner over my local lan.however when I pack up my laptop and hit the road, the other folks in the house cannot print or scan over the network anymore, so I tried to get an older desktop we have laying about to be the cups / sane server instead of my laptop.I tried a Dell Dimension 8300, and a Dell Optiplex GX 260. Both have USB 2.0 however, on fresh slackware 13.37 installs, even after the udev rule, neither old computer is successful finding the scanner with sane-find-scanner, although it is listed in output of lsusb.

does anyone know if there is a workaround on these older machines, or have there been some hardware changes in the last 8 years that the machines haven't undergone, and I should give up trying to get one to be cups/sane server for rx700..

Slackware :: Getting Epson CX5000 Scanner Working With Sane?

Mar 30, 2010

I have been given an Epson CX5000 3-in-1 that I only want to use the scanner part of (I have a laser and hate buying ink). The scanner works, tested under windoze, but xsane and scanimage -L fail to find it. But, lsusb does:
$ /sbin/lsusb
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 04b8:082b Seiko Epson Corp. Stylus DX5050

I saw a post about it under ubuntu that you had to modify
/etc/udev/rules.d/45-libsane.rules
Which doesn't exist on my Slackware 13 install. I hope this Epson runs faster than my Canon FB630U, which takes almost a four minutes to scan a 5x6 photo and forget scanning an 8.5x11 page (go take a nap).

Does anybody know where to find an rpm of sane-frontends?I want to use my auto-document-feed functionality on my scanner using scanadf, which is part of sane-frontends.Otherwise I'd also welcome alternative suggestions for scanadf.

I'm running Suse 11.2 and using a Brother DCP7065DN scanner/printer, which actually comes with stunning drivers and support for Linux.

Slackware :: Slackware64 /usr/lib /usr/lib64 / Continue Patching All These Makefiles That Have Libdir=/usr/lib Hard Coded To Keep A Sane System?

May 21, 2009

I've never used a 64bit system set up this way. They've been pure 64bit with everything simply in /usr/lib with no /usr/lib64. IIRC That's how Arch used to do it.

My question is, should I continue patching all these makefiles that have libdir=/usr/lib hard coded to keep a sane system? What are the side effects of not putting all the libs in /usr/lib64? These are for the sources that don't use or follow --libdir= and LDFLAGS="-L/usr/lib64".

Can I rm -rf /usr/lib then ln -s /usr/lib64 /usr/lib and still have things work. There are a couple of files in /usr/lib now {codecs/ crda/ libsyslinux.a rpm/ sendmail siconv/ syslinux/ terminfo/ trn/} which came from a stock install.

There are not any 32bit programs I need to run. If I did, that's what KVM is for

PS. I want some Slackware64 Swag!

Slackware :: Reading Cdrom And External Drive In Dolphin?

I inserted a disc and tried to access it through Dolphin. It shows up in the directory explorer thing as a disc and with the disc name, but it has a little / thing in the bottom corner of the icon, and when I try to access it, it gives me this long error on the bottom of the file area (can't remember what all it said, something about 'harvey' and being unable to find the directory in /etc/fstab). The same thing happened with an external drive, which seemed to work fine before but now has the same problem.

Slackware :: No More Xorg.conf?

Jun 2, 2010

Sorry if this was well covered here when most up-to-date Slackers moved to 13.0, but I have just jumped from 12.1 to 13.1. Generally very happy that I do not have to think about xorg.conf as I always found the structure of this conf file a tad confusing. However if I do need to (for example) change my video driver (I might for example want to try the nvidia driver from NVIDIA) or configure my touchpad - how do I do this ?

I understand that xorg.conf can still be created. If I do so, do I have to put all the stuff in that used to be there or can I just add the stuff I need to make the changes I am looking for?

Slackware :: Can't Add Ubuntu Into Lilo.conf

Jan 10, 2011

I finally installed Slackware and now I have Windows, Slackware and Ubuntu in my laptop. I installed Ubuntu at the last order and at that time GRUB the default loader. But I feel that I'd like to use lilo more, so I booted into Slackware and run "lilo" and then lilo became the default loader.But then I cannot access Ubuntu anymore. Because in lilo there're no information about Ubuntu. So I added some information about Ubuntu according to that of Windows in lilo. But that failed. I still cannot access Ubuntu. I searched for the posts about this problem, and this is what they say:

Quote:

image=/ub/vmlinuz
label=ubuntu
read-only
root=/dev/sda7
initrd=/ub/initrd.img-2.6.28-13-generic

or something like this. But in my slack I cannot find the image or the initrd.

Slackware :: No Xorg.conf.d Directory In 13.1?

Feb 20, 2011

I just did a clean install of 13.1 on one of my laptops and the scroll doesn't work on the synaptics touchpad. I've seen some comments about adding a file to the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ directory. I don't have this directory. Is it ok to add this, or did I screw something up during the install. I did another 13.1 install about a week ago and it is also missing this directory. Is this just something in current and not in 13.1?

Slackware :: Can't Add Ubuntu Into Lilo.conf?

Jan 10, 2011

My thread "Can't add Ubuntu into lilo.conf" was merged with this one.That problem has been solved, As I solved that problem, I got several more questions: When applying the changes by run "lilo", there's a warning about "large-memory". How come and how to solve? When loading into lilo, there's a capital character "U" in front of "Ubuntu". At the same time, there's nothing in front of Slackware or Windows. I wonder why. And, now that lilo read the booting info from slackware, if sometimes slackware get collapsed, could I still be able to access lilo? If I can access lilo, can I still boot into the other OSes?

Slackware :: 13 X64 Doesn't See Xorg.conf?

After messing around last time trying to compile fglrx for my ATi card, I now understand it uses a built in radeon driver.

My question is this: how do I get X to recoqnise my custom xorg.conf file? I dropped it in /etc/X11 but to no avail.

HAL does it great job - but I need my xorg.conf as I have dual monitors which HAL doesn't configure correctly (displays mirrored, not stretched).

Slackware :: TV - MONITOR 26 And Xorg.conf ?

Jun 9, 2011

I bought a very beaultiful pink tv-monitor 26", model LG26LED6500 for my daughter and I also intend to enjoy it setting up in my slackware 13.37. Then I use a VGA cable and 6600GT nvidia card, but now I'm having a doubt because there aren't vertical and horizontal frequencies specs in this manual. Only:

I did a xorg.conf using a vesa driver and kde screen output was a 1024x768 - 61hz.

If I try to use a nvidia driver and xorg.conf piece above X break down. If I use any manual frequency parameters X break down too.

1)What's the difference between CRT config and tv-monitor xorg?

2)Have I use strings modeline monitor and modes screen in this situation?

General :: Why Is Reading A FILE Faster Than Reading A VARIABLE?

May 4, 2011

I don't understand the results of a simple performance test I ran using two basic scripts (running on a high end server):

perfVar.zsh :

#!/bin/zsh -f
MYVAR=`cat $1`
for i in {1..10}

[code]...

Performance test result:

> time ./perfVar.zsh BigTextFile > /dev/null
./perfVar.zsh FE > /dev/null 6.86s user 0.32s system 100% cpu 7.177 total
> time ./perfCat.zsh BigTextFile > /dev/null
./perfCat.zsh FE > /dev/null 0.01s user 0.10s system 91% cpu 0.118 total

I would have thought that accessing a VARIABLE was way faster than reading a FILE on the file system... Why this result ?Is there a way to optimize the perfCat.zsh script by reducing the number of accesses to the file system ?
