Ubuntu :: Desktop And Top Panel Have Disappeared?
Apr 9, 2011I recently made the switch to Ubuntu 10.10 desktop version, I have been running the OS smoothly for about 2 weeks now. However, when I turned on my laptop this morning my wallpaper is now plain white, my desktop items have disappeared and my top panel has been removed. (I replaced the panel at the bottom of the screen with a docky dock, which appears to be working fine).

Aug 9, 2010There is no clock on my panel after the 11.3 install. I don't get it. I unlock the widgets and there is a digital clock there, but I cannot drag it to the panel, only the desktop. So I suppose there is another way of adding it. The standard clock is not a widget?

May 27, 2011I'm using a very simple conky script to diplay the date and time on my desktop. I've noticed that he conky clock is a few seconds early compared to the time displayed in the right hand side of the top panel (Natty). I guess both displays are based on the same "internal" time, so I'm left wondering how this could happen, and how to sync back the clocks.
It seems that Conky is in sync with the system date, while the panel clock is 2 seconds late (on my system). Checked with while true; do date; sleep 0.1; done

Mar 4, 2011I have had this problem with all installations of Maverick Meerkat. Moving the default clock from the upper panel to the lower panel makes it bahave strangely. When clicked on, it now appears in the middle of the screen (sometimes even higher depending on resolution). This never happened prior to Maverick Meerkat.
How do I go about to fix this strange bug?
Attached is a screen shot of what I mean.
OpenSUSE :: Desktop Clock Not Working Properly
Dec 13, 2009When I first boot my computer the Panel clock displays UTC time for about the first 2-3 minutes then switches to Local (UTC-5). My hardware (BIOS) is on UTC. Running KDE 4.3.1 on openSUSE 11.2 64 bit. I dual boot Mint 8 64 bit also and it starts correctly with local. Not the end of the world but I have never saw this behavior before.

Ubuntu :: Panel Clock Doesn't Update
Jun 28, 2010The clock applet "Clock 2.30.0" in my panel reads correctly on boot, and then never updates itself. When I go to its preferences, time setting is correct and continuously updating, but the display in my panel never changes. I can use "killall-gnomepanel" from terminal, and this rests everything, making the time display correctly. Furthermore, it updates itself afterward... but I'd like the dang thing to function correctly without resorting to that.

OpenSUSE :: No Desktop Panel After Update?
Feb 8, 2010I am running Open Suse 11.2 and did an update this weekend to get the latest patches and after a required reboot I no longer have a desktop panel or access to the computer menus, etc. I get to a login screen and I can see the panel at that point, but after I login I just get a desktop background. I can see the system is booting up and the "connect to wireless network succesful" comes up too, I just can't see the desktop panel. Anything I can try to get it back?I am running this on an IBM T42p laptop and the xgl graphics are sweet but seems to have stopped as well.

I have right clicked on the top panel and installed the Shutdown icon so I can shutdown but I have lost all the other functions including the 60secs countdown. May 28, 2010take it as read im still learning Ubuntu and occassionally do stupid things, like click on the unsubcribe buttons on unwanted email.
Did that and for some obscure reason i lost the default firefox icon from the top task bar. I could make a launcher on the desktop but i failed to find the firefox exe. I did get it to show hidden files, found the firefox folder but no exe file or similiar to launch.
Would someone be so kind as to tell me where to drill so i can at least put the firefox launcher on the desktop. As a fill in im using chromium, and i did find its folder hidden in firefox's.
ie... [username]/mozilla/firefox/chromium ??
Ubuntu :: Top Panel Disappeared - Now Can't Even Shutdown
Jul 31, 2010somehow I right clicked on the panel at the top and then left clicked on something that made the panel disappear permenantly. now when I turn the computer on it goes to the login screen, I put in my password and the desktop has no panel bar across the top of the screen (no way to even run a program) to turn in off I have to push the power button. how do I get my panel back? standard ubuntu 10.04 64 bit not server.

When the applet is in the bottom panel, and I click on the clock, the popup display appears at the top of the screen rather than at the bottom of the screen (above the bottom panel) as would be expected. Worse, the display appears higher than would be expected had the clock been on the top panel, meaning the display is cutoff (ie, the display goes off the top of the screen). I've tried playing with my .gconf files, and removing and re-adding the GNOME Clock applet, but nothing has worked. I'm not sure if this is a weird quirk particular to my settings, or a more general bug; can readers here check to see if the behavior I've described occurs if the Clock applet is added to the bottom panel?

I will set it to the correct time, but every time I reboot it will be wrong by several hours. I have placed the icons back, all works correctly, though I would like to know how to recreate this transparent rectangular panel.
