Slackware :: 13.37 Ktorrent Goes "stale" After A While

Jun 19, 2011

for some reason ktorrent goes "stale" after a while, with all torrents showing as stalled. each torrent shows only one peer each, even though the tracker statuses show a lot of seeders. exiting ktorrent and restarting it seems to get things moving again.

Slackware :: Stale NFS File Handle Mount Error On Non NFS Boot Partition

Sep 10, 2010

When I run lilo (/sbin/lilo), it messes up my /boot partition. Next time I try to mount it after running lilo, I get an error: "mount: Stale NFS file handle" (I define -t ext2). My /boot partition is ext2, mounted locally, and not nfs. Then I do fsck /dev/sda1, and I get several: Free blocks count wrong for group #0 (7665, counted=5063). Fix<y>? I say yes to all and it works normally afterwards. This happens only after I run lilo. Lilo is installed in MBR.

Here is relevant configuration:
Code:
root@darwin:/home/cabrilo# cat /etc/lilo.conf
append=" vt.default_utf8=0"
boot = /dev/sda

bitmap = /boot/slack.bmp
bmp-colors = 255,0,255,0,255,0
bmp-table = 60,6,1,16
bmp-timer = 65,27,0,255

prompt
timeout = 30
change-rules
reset
vga = normal
image = /boot/vmlinuz
root = /dev/sda3
label = Linux

This is my partition table:

Code:

OpenSUSE Network :: NFS Stale File Handle

Jan 20, 2011

I currently have a home network setup so that my main machine shares it's external hard-drive via NFS. This has been working perfectly for months, however I just got a new laptop, installed openSuse 11.3 x64 and set everything up. Now there is two folders on the external network mount that won't let me do anything and always just return Networking: Stale NFS File Handle. The system still works fine under my old openSUSE 11.2 x86 laptop. I have tried unmounting the drive from the laptop, restarting the NFS client, and restarting the NFS server on the main machine. None of these have made a difference.

It is only these two folders that are effected. Everything else works just fine.

General :: SSD Backup - NFS Stale File Handle

Oct 19, 2009

I did a backup of the ssd on my eeepc using the following command from a Linux Mint on a USB key:
dd if=/dev/sda1 of=/media/disk/eeepc_save/SYSTEM/system.bck
(/media/disk in an external USB disk)

I deleted the ext2 partition using GPartEd on live USB key and created it back. I rebooted Linux Mint and restored the filesystem using the opposite command :
dd if=/media/disk/eeepc_save/SYSTEM/system.bck of=/dev/sda1

I mounted /dev/sda1 and when I "ls" the root directory, I get several "NFS stale file handle" messages concerning directories (/dev and other). I tried "e2fsck -y", had a bundle of corrections that resulted in the deletion of the directories. I don't use NFS. I did the same for the user filesystem and had no problem (it's an ext3 partition). The two filesystems are the ones that came with the original Xandros installed on my eeepc and that were mounted with union-fs.

Software :: Cannot Get Rid Of Stale NFS File Handle Error

Nov 18, 2008

I've got something showing up in my /mnt directory that I can't figure out how to get rid of. If I try to delete it, I get, "ERROR: Stale NFS file handle". I've tried googling it, but the only solution I can find is "remount and then unmount your NFS server". The trouble is that I don't have any NFS servers - it was a mountpoint for a squashfs file. Trying to remount the squashfile just gives the same error message. My best guess for how it was created is that maybe the file was deleted while mounted. Surely there is a way I can get rid of it? It stuffs up my system by e.g. preventing find from working. I'm running Puppy Linux 4.1.1, although I suspect that is irrelevant.

Software :: Stale NFS File Error - Cannot Unmount Drive

Jan 10, 2009

I have Puppy installed on an old laptop and one way or another I ended up with a file inside /usr/bin that has the Stale NFS file error. I've tried to look around for a way to fix it but all places I've looked have only been for the situation where it's on a drive you're able to unmount. At least I think they were. I certainly don't know what I'm doing well enough to know for sure. Obviously restarting the computer has been tried as well as attempting to unmount things, but I can't unmount the drive that is running the unmounting.

OpenSUSE :: Ktorrent - Running It Without Login?

Sep 6, 2010

Is it possible to run ktorrent from a command-line, or more to the point:from a cron job I like ktorrent, it does it job well. But it bugs me that I have to log inand remain so, just to run an app who's interface is not even required mostof the time.Unfortunately, my provider imposes a montly volume. Nice big volume, but notimposible to run it dry. On the other hand, they count nightly traffic atonly half to actual volume.So I'd like to be able to start ktorrent at a certain time after midnight,and interrupt it at dawn. Or maybe just shutdown the machine at dawn.

OpenSUSE :: Ktorrent Stalls If Left On Its Own?

Oct 12, 2010

I've noticed this weird behavior where kTorrent would just stall downloading stuff if left on its own for a few hours. Once you activate kTorrent window from the panel it just gets on with the job, changing status from "stalled" to "downloading" in a few seconds.

Could it have something to do with the external disk I'm downloading on (some of the downloads, not all) being physically different one and connected via usb but mounted in a home directory?

I suspect this because Windows machine connected via samba also loses connection after a while as if there's some "time expiration" set on mounting drives into home.

Here is the fstab line for the suspected mount:

/dev/disk/by-id/usb-Seagate_FreeAgentDesktop_3QK0A0N7-0:0-part1 /home/stan/Seagate ext2 acl,user_xattr 1 2

Fedora Servers :: FC10 Kernel Panic - Stale NFS File Handle

Mar 20, 2009

A FC10 server hung and had to be power-cycled. I suspect it hung because of an nfs mount timeout.

Now it does not boot. The error is libc.so.6 not found. Kernel panic. Attempting to kill init.

Booting under rescue:

ls: cannot access libc-2.8.so: Stale NFS file handle

Is there a way to reboot to a clean state? There must be some NFS cache file.

I also tried to cp rescueCD:/lib64/libc-2.8.so to the old lib64 dir, but get the same "Stale NFS file handle" message.

OpenSUSE :: Ktorrent Does Return From Sleep Nicely

Apr 2, 2011

I have KDE DE in openSUSE 11.4 Tumbleweed.

The issue is with Ktorrent.

When I put the machine to sleep (suspend to ram) with Ktorrent running and then wake the machine up again, the torrents that were working do resume. But they resume in a very poor fashion, continually going into and out of "stalled" status. This bad connectivity continues indefinitely.

I have to kill Ktorrent and restart it to get good data flow back for the torrents that are running. Is there an explanation for this? And is there something I can do to make the torrents resume nicely when I bring the machine back from sleep?

OpenSUSE :: 11.3 - KTorrent Crashing When Monitor Go To Sleep

Jul 28, 2011

Running openSuSE 11.3 w/ a KDE 4.x desktop. Every time I'm using KTorrent, when I come back into the office and "wake" the monitor, I find KTorrent has crashed and I have to restart it. So I'm guessing that KTorrent is crashing either when my monitor goes to sleep mode or when I'm waking it up. I've tried changing some settings but when the system is running, I cannot seem to access the monitor control panel. Pressing the menu button on the side of the monitor does not bring up the monitor menu. There used to be an easily noticed "Desktop Settings" in KDE 3 but I'm not finding the equivalent in KDE 4. How to keep this Samsung SyncMaster 997DF 19" CRT from going into sleep mode?

Ubuntu Networking :: How To Tamed Resolvconf From Putting Stale/old Info In Resolv.conf

Feb 3, 2010

I have resolvconf installed to prevent multiple programs from fighting to update /etc/resolv.conf at the same time an corrupting it.From what I understand resolvconf a package found in the repos is suppose to act as the gatekeeper to /etc/resolv.conf and all programs must go thru it to update resolv.conf. Hence /etc/resolv.conf is written in a orderly manner.

from time to time though something goes awry and resolvconf writes old, wrong stale into /etc/resolv.conf, for a connection that may be down or no longer exists along with the correct info for the current connection.Usually i would fix this by uninstalling and reinstalling the resolvconf package.I was tired of this so i went digging around in

/etc/resolvconf and found the subdirectory
/etc/resolvconf/run/interface

This is where it looks like resolvconf caches interface info that goes into

/etc/resolv.conf

I think what happens is resolvconf is suppose to clean this up in an orderly way but sometimes old interface files may be left here.So for instance in mine were the files eth0 and wlan0.with dns info for each stored in the relative file. I no longer have an eth0 only a wlan0 so resolvconf was still pulling info from both

/etc/resolvconf/run/interface/wlan0 and /etc/resolvconf/run/interface/eth0

with the result of an incorrect dns info in /etc/resolv.conf To make a long story short I just deleted /etc/resolvconf/run/interface/eth0 and was good to go. So if you are using resolvconf and run into this problem you may use this work around.

Programming :: PHP Auto Removes Stale Sessions On It's Own But Doesn't Remove From MYSQL Table

Aug 24, 2010

I know PHP auto removes stale sessions on it's own, but that doesn't remove them from the MYSQL table. So I was gonna make a cron script that ran once every hour that removed any MYSQL shopping cart item from the table if the original session_id that created it does not exist anymore.

From my understanding a session_id is an "actual" file located somewhere on the harddisk (is it not? correct me if I'm wrong), so I was going to do a simple check for each item in the shopping cart to check for it's original session file, if it didn't exist on the harddisk, then simply remove it from the mysql table.

OpenSUSE :: Ktorrent Stops Seeding After Download Finishes?

May 8, 2011

After I finish a download in ktorrent, the torrent stops seeding.

A couple of notes: my download speeds are fantastic (~6mb/s), while my seeding during download is about 60kb/s. However, this seed speed seems to fluctuate a lot from about 3kb/s. Once the download completes, the seed goes to 0kb/s, and the torrent doesn't find as many leachers. For now, after I finish downloading, I re-download a portion of my download at a limited rate of 1kb/s so that the seed continues.

Lastly, I am currently running through a VPN server, however I this issue happens even if I'm running a normal connection.
