We are using Nagios Server for different sites say India,US,Germany. All of them are in their respective groups. Now how do i create web access to 3 of them, so that they can monitor only their server? Say, India shouls be able to see and monitor only India group, US guys should able to monitor only US servers. And they not be anle to access other group.
View 1 RepliesIs this possible that a process running on a remote-host only inform nagios when some thing is wrong. Rather then nagios-monitoring-server checking through NRPE every so often. Reason is I want to add too many alerts in the application. And I don't want a whole list of ok messages.

I've several servers (windows+linux) that authenticate to an LDAP server. There is one machine that I would like to allow only certain groups from LDAP server to have access and I am not sure where to start.
If that cannot be done, is it possible to disable LDAP root user to access these machines?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed Nagios following the Quick Install method from the Nagios.org web site but now I would like to add and monitor another host.I don�t find a way , I have for example replaced the ip number of the localhost(127.0.0.1 localhost.cfg) for another ip number and I am able to monitor another computer that way. But then I no longer MONITOR the localhost unless I replace the ip number in the localhost.cfg file. what I would like to do is to monitor both or more computers.

Since a week or 2 Nagios is constantly marking hosts (servers mainly but also a few Serial-over-IP converters) down for anything up to a few minutes. Typically, all services stay in OK status. Looking closer at a host in such state, it's status information is
CRITICAL - Packet Filtered (<IP address of host in question>)
in soft state. Sometimes services are in critical state with the host in OK status. Almost always the status information is "No route to host". Further checking shows no problems. Rarely this state lasts longer than one check interval. This started after a link was down, putting, correctly, all hosts and services on red for being unreachable. The link problems were solved within a few hours but Nagios only showed this after 2 reboots. Since then the problems has lessened in frequency gradually, from 5 to 10 of the 34 hosts being reported down at any given moment (the same for the 150-ish services monitored) to where I am now, 1 to 5 problem statuses (counting both hosts and services) and the occasional 'all green' screen. A week ago, when the problems were going a week already, Nagios updated from 3.2.0 to 3.2.1. This showed no apparent improvement.
Still, the Host Groups screen is not stable. A read or yellow status initially signified a problem to be looked at, right now it is likely a false alarm to will go away. Whenever the "packet filtered" or "no route to host" is followed up by a ping test, no problems, not even with the slightest delay or packt loss are found.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm setting up a LAMP production server for the first time. When I installed Ubuntu server edition, I selected to install Samba. My idea was to be able to easily access the server's files on the LAN using Windows. All was well and I could ping/ssh between Windows and the Ubuntu server without any problems using the host names. Later, I became concerned that running Samba on a production server might introduce security issues. Therefore, I used apt to purge Samba.
Now I am unable to ping/ssh between the Windows machines and the server using the host names. It only works if I use the IP address.
Two questions:
1.) Is it a security risk to run Samba on a production LAMP server?
2.) How do I get back to being able to use host names without installing Samba?
I am using nagios to monitor a local host and a remote host in a vmware, where both the machines working in CentOS. Now i need to monitor MySQL in my local host so that i should know whether MySQL is up and running. I came across some plugins like
check_MySQL_health
check_MySQL_status
check_MySQL_stat.
While i was trying to install check_MySQL_health, i cant get clear description about the installation and i got stuck with that.
I believe that I need to disable the host check, I'm checking a public FTP service and ping is disabled on that FTP host. This is resulting in Nagios reporting the host as down, but the service shows as OK.
Is there any way to disable the host check?
I'm trying to setup my test nagios to check the disk space of another linux box. I've got it setup and checking. But to my surprise, it was checking the nagios server's local disk space instead of the remote linux.
Here is my services.cfg.

I used to be able to access the web server I had running on my guest OS in Virtual Box from my host OS. I also had it set to the network settings of "Host Only Adapter". Then I needed to access the internet directly on the gues OS, so I changed my settings on the guest OS to "NAT" (in virtual box), and in /etc/network/interfaces, I removed the loopback stuff and the static IP I'd put in. Now no matter what I do, I cannot get it back to being accessible from the host os! I even did a completely NEW install of Ubuntu guest OS in Virtual box Guest OS: Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop Host OS: OpenSUSE 11.3 VirtualBox: 3.2.6

Many of mails sent from my mail server that are in Queue;The main reason is deffered by domains like yahoo,aol,etc.but there is one more error that i keep getting and that is Host Unknown,Below is an example from mail log,The catch is,test mail sent on the same email id sent from my personal mail from the same server i.e. url was deliveredHowever,another mail containing client information sent from customercare@mycompanysdomain ended up in queue.
There are more examples of the same,around 20 domain have the same problem.

from Qemu manager, if network card is using User Networking, it's a NAT and I can see that Guest Ubuntu has an ip address 10.0.2.15 and is able to access the internet. However, as Guest ubuntu is running server so I want to do use Tap networking and I assue with Tap, the Guest ubuntu will get an ip address which is in the same subnet as host machine by dhcp. so from Qemu Manager 7.0, I changed Network card to be:
NE2000PCI
Vlan Number =0
VLAN Type: Tap Networking
Mac address: tap0's mac address from host
TAP Network Adpator: Tap0
Note that tap0 was created by openvpn. and then fired Ubuntu guest, ifconfig shows no ip address on eth0 (which has the same mac address as Tap0) so the guest Ubuntu has no ip address and can't access public.
I have set up nagios on Suse 11.2 and it is working fine on the localhost. I can access localhost/nagios, <ipaddress>/nagios in the browser and it loads up the nagios webinterface. If I try on a computer on the network with <ipaddress>/nagios the request times out. I have tested that I can ping to and from both machines (nagios machine and the machine I am trying to access the interface from).Some detailsNagios is running in a hyper-v VM. I installed it through yast2. Communication is run via a switch and sonicwall firewall but firewall has allow all within the network.I have a feeling it's some apache2 setting that I haven't configured or something blocking port 80.

Bit of an odd one, this. I've migrated a website from my old server to a new machine. Both servers run Ubuntu + Apache2. Both only serve a single site, apart from the default site.I've flipped the domain name to the new IP address.The trouble is that after moving the virtual host config over into sites-available, with the necessary link in sites-enabled, Apache attempts to serve from the default web root (/var/www) rather than the actual site content (in /var/www/technology). 1) I have my Nagios running on the linux box and BMC Remedy Server on the Solaris box. I have simulated a mail from Nagios to be delivered to the Remedy server. But the Remedy Server does not receive it. I even tried snooping on port 25 but nothing has reached the box.
