Server :: Integrating SMS Server With Applications?

May 27, 2010

I dunno whether its possible or not but I would like to have all my error logs sent to my mobile phone. For example I want all my /var/log/messages "error" reports to be sent to my mobile as sms, or you can take another example of Bacula, I want all the failed backup reports to be sent to me as a sms.

Is there any software which I can integrate or any script or any application so something.

Yeah I do have a monitoring system in place but again I need to integrate the monitoring system to SMS server and I dunno know how to exactly do it.

Shed as much light on this as you can. I'm an noob with sms server and stuff so guide me to basic reading even pls.

Your help is appreciative.

Regards
Kk

CentOS 5 Server :: Integrating With Active Directory?

okay so we have multiple servers running CentOS and multiple people who need access to these machines for various tasks. i would like to be able to use the credentials from Active Directory (running on server 2008) to give them access to these servers without having to go through each server and add these people into permission groups. basically a single sign-on for all of these servers depending upon what permissions were granted in Active Directory. how do i go about doing this?

Applications :: Setting Up A Radius Server?

Dec 27, 2010

I need to set up a Radius server for use in an ISP which will be wireless internet only.

I had thought to use Centos maybe and install and somehow configure Freeradius.

I have little experience with Linux, but am a Windows Admin, and use Linux a little.

My questions would be: Is there a best distro that i should use?? I have used Ubuntu the most, but not sure if it is best to use for this project.

Freeradius website has documentation but it doesnt tell me much about how to get it all up and running, What we want is Authentication and Accounting and from what i can see Freeradius is a good option? Is there anything better that i can use? We will be eventually having approximately 5000 clients.

I can successfully ssh to my server from the laptop, but getting the gui stuff launched from the server to display on my laptop is where I am hitting a wall. I did:

$ ssh -Y knipknup@192.168.1.3

enter password

and I get:

/usr/bin/X11/xauth: error in locking authority file /home/knipknup/.Xauthority

I also did :

$ sudo chmod -v 777 /home/knipknup/.Xauthority

and that results in the same message.

Server :: Server Configuration For Small Office Server, Which Smtp, Pop Imap Server And Backup?

Apr 2, 2010

I have installed a linux server in my office to run 16 machines. Its main use will be a internal mail server but will be also running websites.

I have installed Ubuntu 9.10 server x64 and have got apache running.

I am looking for the simplest more robust solution for smtp, pop3 and imap. I have only ever used qmail before and found it a pain to configure and its getting old so I though I should probably try something new. I have not much experience with running pop3 or imap on linux so would love a suggestion on that.

Applications :: VNC On DSL - Getting Server Working To Remote Connect To Users

Jun 12, 2010

I'm trying to get VNC working on Damn Small Linux. I installed the package, and I can get the viewer to work. However what I want to do is get the server working so that I can remote connect to users. When I do connect instead of the active session all I get is a grey screen with an xterm window. I've done a lot of searching for this, but cannot seem to find a good answer. What I'd like to do is connect to the native X session. I've tried changing things in the xstartup file to things such as "-display :0" but it still doesn't work.

Applications :: Cannot Install Webmin On Dummy Server Setup

Feb 7, 2011

I have a dummy server set up in which I am trying to install webmin (which I have done several times in the past and remb it being straightforward and pretty simple!) however when trying to install I keep getting errors.

I install all the perl packages as required :-
sudo apt-get install perl libnet-ssleay-perl openssl libauthen-pam-perl libpam-runtime libio-pty-perl libmd5-perl
After downloading webmin I try and install it:-
sudo dpkg -i webmin_ 1.530 _all.deb

This is where I encounter errors regarding apt-show-versions saying that it is not installed.I try and install it but an error appears stating that apt-show-versions is not installed. So I try and install apt-show-versions and that fails as it states that there is libapt package missing too. When I try to force install both - unable to fetch some archives but maybe run apt-get update or fix missing....It just seems like I am going around in circles (as I have run apt-get update and have run the commands as root...)

Applications :: Create Local Mirror Of Remote Server Without Altering It?

Jul 29, 2009

I'm new here and hope to profit from your immense linux knowledge and of course to share my own experience where I can.

I'm in a student organization and we use a file server that runs linux. I can log in through ssh and copy using scp using login and password (no rsa/dsa keys because most users are windows users using winSCP and they're lacking in computer knowledge so we don't require them to mess around with keys)

However, I don't have network access everywhere, so I'd like to make a copy on my laptop harddisk of some of the folders I use most frequently. Note that I don't need it to copy files from my pc back to the remote server so I don't need two-way sync. Deleting the local copy every time and downloading a new full copy is not an option as we are talking about several gigabytes and the download speed is limited. Normally I would use Unison, however, this requires unison to be installed on both pc's and I can't install any software on the file server so this is not an option.

Any ideas on how to achieve this? I'm reasonable knowledgable about linux so I don't mind tinkering with some config files and using command line applications.

Server :: How To Start Sequence Of Applications At Specified Time Intervals In Debian

Nov 18, 2010

I am currently running debian lenny on an old mini ITX box (1GHZ 1GB ram OS on a 16GB CF card, 4 X 1TB sata drives) as a file server on my home network. I have modified /etc/inittab to auto log in a standard user, start X and start fluxbox. I would like the system to then start a couple of VM's using virtual Box but as this is not a high spec box I would like to start these automatically at 5 min intervals and about 5 min after the auto log in.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how i can achieve this or alternativley monitor the processor load and start each VM in sequence as the porcessor load drops below 20%.

Ubuntu Servers :: Integrating Debian Default In An Office Network

Mar 16, 2011

So I've been asked to install a file/printer server and, possibly, inet proxy for a small office (5 PCs). My concern is: There are:4 PCs on XP x32 1 PC on Win7 x642 Printers, one of them with a scanner Some buisness software they use does not cope with win7.Had hard time installing additional x64 drivers for printer (which are obsolete by now, I guess). Network runs on a simple router which is connected to internet. For now they have been using simple sharing of C: folders, which had freaked my out a bit.

So..Despite XP being old and a presence of x64 machine on the network, do I:install x64 server edition install x32 one What additional software, besides Samba and printer/scanner drivers, I will need to handle both architectures? I have rather basic understanding of how servers work, i.e. I run samba, apt-cacher, torrents on my home network.

Debian Configuration :: Install A Multi-core System And Configure It To Run Several VMs, One Each For A Firewall, A Caching Proxy Server, A Mail Server, A Web Server?

Jan 25, 2011

I will be relocating to a permanent residence sometime in the next year or two. I've recently begun thinking about the best way to implement a home-based network. It occurred to me that the most elegant solution might be the use of VM technology to eliminate as much hardware and wiring as possible. My thinking is this: Install a multi-core system and configure it to run several VMs, one each for a firewall, a caching proxy server, a mail server, a web server. Additionally, I would like to run 2-4 VMs as remote (RDP)workstations, using diskless workstations to boot the VMs over powerline ethernet. The latest powerline technology (available later this year) will allow multiple devices on a residential circuit operating at near gigabit speed, just like legacy wired networks.

In theory, the above would allow me to consolidate everything but the disklessworkstations on a single server and eliminate all wired (and wireless) connections except the broadband connection to the Internet and the cabling to the nearest power outlets. It appears technically possible, but I'm not sure about the various virtual connections among VMs. In theory, each VM should be able to communicate with the other as if it was on the same network via the server data bus, but what about setting up firewall zones? Any internal I/O bandwidth bottlenecks? Any other potential "gotchas", caveats, issues? (Other than the obvious requirement of having enough CPU and RAM).Any thoughts or observations welcome, especially if they are from real world experience in a VM environment. BTW--in case you're wondering why I'm posting here, it's because I run Debian on all my workstations/servers (running VirtualBox as a VM for Windows XP on one workstation).
