May 24, 2011What's the easiest way to make a given file/folder (or multiple files) require a password upon opening moving copying etc, without encrypting the file/archive. The password should at least be manually defined upon establishing it, and preferably it could be modified.
I'm aware of the community belief that this is redundant. I don't want to know how to start from scratch a different way, or why I should or shouldn't do this or that. Just how to password lock a file/folder regardless of your feelings on the matter lol.

I am trying to clean it up when I noticed that there was a subdirectory created by another users in my group that I cannot delete. It has all the permissions set besides global write. Nov 19, 2009I wanted to create an encrypted volume that was accessible from F12 and WinXP. Using RealCrypt, I created a volume on a NTFS partition and formatted it as NTFS.
mount point: /home/user1/safe
user dir: /home/user1/safe/folder
When I run:
[root@localhost ~]# realcrypt -t --mount --filesystem=ntfs /mnt/winshare/volume /home/user1/safe
The permissions for "/home/user1/safe" change from 755 to 700 and I am unable to access "/home/user1/safe/folder". Also "home/user1/safe/folder" changes owner and group to root with permissions of 700. My guess is that this is being caused by ntfs-3g, but how to pass on uid options in this example. Is this even doable?

May 7, 2010i tried to make a recommendation ( ups that link ain't comes from me - i only looked for a word in a dictionary ) about traveling around with a laptop. i talking about my own experinace ( sitting in a train go to dinner - chain my laptop but - DVD-drive?? ) for GUI user i think it will be a nice option in the screensaver setup to lock the CD/DVD drive and thus should be very easy to implement by the "eject" command. just have another buttom "lock/unlock" the drive in the menue. think it's usefull and easy to implement.
