I was wondering if there is a way to disable or modify the keyring because I am getting the prompts every time I try to remote administer the box using vnc client on another machine. I just want to be able to remotely login to the box without having the keyring prompt pop out. I don't know if this is possible as I set the box to automatically log in.
View 1 RepliesI have to always log into my keyring. Unlock Login Keyring comes up when bring up the computer. The unlock login Keyring does not get unlocked when I log in. How can I get the login process to fully log on when I am not around? When I run vista (windows) I never have to login to a keyring to give a password to get passed the Internet process. I have to always do this with Ubuntu 10.04.

I went through some of the existing threads regarding this issue but in no avail.I dono wat boot-loader I'm using there is no sign of any boot-loader (either grub nor llo).I tried ma hand in fail-safe mode also, it is also asking for login id. Yesterday evening I attempted to reset the root password by booting from the install CD and using VI to clear the root password in the passwd and shadow files. I then rebooted, and the system has halted with an 'FSCK failed. Please repair manually and reboot' error, with a prompt to 'Enter root password' below. But of course the root password isn't known (I had expected it to blank after editing the passwd and shadow files, but it doesn't work), so I have no way of logging on.

I've got several language multimedia CD-Rom's, made for Windows 95/98/98 SE and 2000, that I'm using by means of my daughter's old PC (Win 98 SE O.S.). However I noticed, also, that you can perfectly use them even with Windows Vista. What I'd like to know is if you can use them even with Suse/Novell and (why not?) OpenSuse Linux.

When i am adding a user using "useradd -d /home/test test" or "useradd test", it is now creating the home directory, whereas when i am using the graphical mode and going through several menu options, i am getting the home directory.

I configured the device on XP following instruction from this forum and the AP configured perfectly.The AP is plugged directly into the network port on the computer. It *should* function correctly without a router. I tried a restart and Suse has no idea it's there. The computer is currently configured for a wired connection which needs to be changed. The computer itself is going to be used as a small home storage server.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've pre-partitioned my HDD and want to install 11.2 on the second primary partition.However, when using the installer, I can't get Suse to install on the prepared 20gb partition - it keeps insisting it wants to install on the large unallocated section of the drive.
I find the partitioner somewhat hard to use and the answer may be staring me in the face but I can't see it.
I tried to use different version of Python, and followed the Readme like this

Instead there is an "X" and the text for K3B in it.From the main menu -> more applications -> multimedia, is where the K3B icon is.Yast2 is supposed to install any dependencies needed or warn if it can not find any missing dependencies. What is missing, or is it a permission problem? All the other application icons seem fine.

I have to click close twice, to make it disappear. I don't have this problem on my laptop, because I enter a password to enter the OS. How do I disable the keyring from showing up every time.

The only problem (so far) is that Network Manager requires you to enter your password every time you login to unlock the password keyring. I want to disable this.
I think some distros disable the prompt by using the login password to unlock the keyring, but I use auto-login (if that makes a difference).
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04LTS. I'm trying to configure my chat accounts. But after entering username and password, it is asking "Enter password to unlock your login keyring". I have entered my login password. But it is saying that "The password you use to log in to your computer no longer matches that of your login keyring."

After some searching on the forums, it appears that this is because I set my laptop to auto-login. Am I missing something here, but what does auto-login have to do the the keyring? Why do I even need to enter that password? I understand that many Ubuntu users are picky about security, but why isn't their any option to disable this? It's almost as bad as UAC from Vista, which is one of the reasons I'm dual-booting Ubuntu in the first place. This is an annoying "problem" that has been bugging me since I first installed Ubuntu - how can I change it?

I've seen posts where there was a work around to store passwords in clear text. That's not a real solution. I've seen posts where killing the process and removing ~/.gnome2/keyrings is a temporary solution until next time you log in or reboot machine. Removing the package, will force removal of the whole kitchen sink. That's too intrusive.
There must be a way to stop this thing from starting up, ever.
I tried commenting out the entries in the /etc/pam.d/* files that refer to "pam_gnome_keyring.so", and have also unchecked the 3 keyring related entries under System --> Preferences --> Startup Applications, which are affiliated with these 3 files:
But I still get this one process once I log into the console window:
There must be one more file somewhere that says, "hey when someone logs in and starts up gdm, start the gnome keyring daemon".
I have been searching for 2 days and cannot find an answer. Apparently Sax2 isn't available in 11.3. It looks as if many are having the same difficulty. I've tried xrandr and tried to edit /etc/X11/Xorg.conf with no success.Copying a working xorg conf file might be a fix, I don't know.

USB DISK icon on visible on Desktop. mounted on /media/USB DISK Clicking on device properties it is read only. I can change permissions but that is only temporary. Looking under my computer it is formated as vfat device name is /dev/sdb
I can't copy any files to it. Can't see in terminal even being root as well. Almost started the Partitioner in Yast but didn't want to accidently crash the system. That WOULD be my luck Can't find a way to format it via GUI interface. Can I use something like fdisk in terminal. I guess I need to format it as ext3.
I have SuSE 11 box. I notice that there's an entry in /etc/services that shows windream running on port 534. Can someone tell what is windream? I tried to google but it keeps bring up German website or something.
