Red Hat :: "yum Update" Returns "Metadata File Does Not Match"
May 5, 2011
Running Centos v5.5 I've been updating this OS with no problem when v5.5 was highest version. But now when v5.6 is out "yum update" returns "Metadata file does not match".
What I want to do is to apply security updates for v5.5 but do not upgrade to 5.6 - is that possible ? Or updating to 5.6 is the only way ?
I have several CentOS 5.5 machines running on my network; yum works just fine for them. I used the 5.5 cds to install them. I decided to grab the DVD of 5.6 and build a new machine. Can't run yum.
http://mirrors.finalasp.com/CentOS/5.6/updates/x86_64/repodata/primary.sqlite.bz2: [Errno -1] Metadata file does not match checksum Trying other mirror.
I am using Fedora12 for about three months. I generally do a yum update once a week, and all went well till yesterday when I got a long list of messages like this:
"rpmfusion-free-updates/primary_db | 473 kB 00:00 http://mirrors.tummy.com/mirrors/rpm...ry.sqlite.bz2: [Errno -1] Metadata file does not match checksum Trying other mirror."
The above message was repeated for all the mirrors until at last it said "no more mirrors to try" and stopped. Tried again after "yum clean all", but the same problem repeats. Today I tried afresh, and got the same message.
Is this due to some recent update I did, or is there a real problem with the mirrors? Please tell me how to solve this.
After adding rpmforge on a fresh installation of CentOS 5.4 64bit, I received the error "Metadata file does not match checksum" so decided to try the fix yum -y remove yum-fastestmirror, As discussed at [URL]... Unfortunately, this also deinstalled yum. If I try to reinstall from my CentOS 5.4 DVD, I get:
# rpm -i --aid yum-3.2.22-20.el5.centos.noarch.rpm error: Failed dependencies: yum-fastestmirror is needed by yum-3.2.22-20.el5.centos.noarch
But if I try to install the yum-fastestmirror I get
# rpm -i --aid yum-fastestmirror-1.1.16-13.el5.centos.noarch.rpm error: Failed dependencies: yum >= 3.0 is needed by yum-fastestmirror-1.1.16-13.el5.centos.noarch
I've made a terrible mistake that I changed files in /etc/yum.repo.d and /etc/yum.conf.Now I can't get update by yum update, saying that ERROR: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: base. Please verify its path and try again. Now I'd like to reset everything to default. What can I do now?
Whenever I try to add or update metadata from a MP3 file, Audacious gives the message "Metadata updating failed".I use Ubuntu (9.10) and installed Audacious (2.1.0) from the Ubuntu Software Center.Does anybody know what causes this or how I can find out what the problem is...
I tried to update via software center anddd with 'yum update' but it won't work for me, I get: Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit ...
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: spotify. Please verify its path and try again.
Any way which would allow me to edit something to make the paths right or to even remove the spotify.
recently ran into another issue (for those who haven't seen it, I'm having an issue setting up my wireless on Linux...) which is that when I run the yum update command in the Terminal I get this output:
Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora. Please verify its path and try again
Just starting out to use linux and of course, everytime I first install an OS, I download 2 things, flash and Chrome. Chrome works fine, but flash has been giving me a lot of problems. I've downloaded the yum file from the Adobe website, and unpacked it using the GUI, yet it still didn't work. So I started googling how to use yum. So I followed some directions and tried doing
Code: yum install flash this is what I get: Code: [root@localhost testpilot]# yum update flash Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit Adding en_US to language list [URL] : [Errno 14] PYCURL ERROR 6 - "" Trying other mirror. Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: adobe-linux-i386. Please verify its path and try again [root@localhost testpilot]#
But thats not the only problem, I think my repo's are messed up or something because look what happens when I type:
Code: yum update Code: [root@localhost testpilot]# yum update flash Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit Adding en_US to language list [URL]: [Errno 14] PYCURL ERROR 6 - "" Trying other mirror. Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: adobe-linux-i386. Please verify its path and try again [root@localhost testpilot]#
As you can see, its still trying to goto the adobe website, even when I type in a completely different command from getting flash. So I guess I have 2 questions: 1) How can I "restore defaults" on yum so that I can actually use it 2) How can I install flash?
I did the big update just now and then another update popped up right away. The update is about creating a common metadata repository. I can't see the official name of the application it's trying to install/update. Anyway, when I try to do the update, I get an error that says, "createrepo-0.9.9-4.fc15.noarch requires yum >= 3.2.29-8 : Success - empty transaction"
my update manager has run today and returned updates for firefox. Which would be a superb, immensely handy thing - if firefox happened to be installed on my box. It isn't.Why does the update manager return updates for software that isn't installed?
Code: $sql="SELECT table1.datetime, table1.user_id, table2.ip, FROM table1,table2 WHERE id='$id' AND (table1.id = table2.id AND table1.datetime = table2.datetime)";
In table2 the datetime fields are about 1 to 2 seconds off due to the source of the data, which I cannot change.
Is it possible via a query match table1.datetime & table2.datetime by HH:MM (ie. to the minute instead of to the second)?
I have a whole pile of MPEG2 and MP4 files. I want to add metadata to the files, such as title, author, year, etc. I can use AtomicParsley to add this information to MP4 files, but I can't see how to do this with MPEG2 files. Is this possible? If so, are there any linux FLOSS command line tools to add this data?
In Windows Explorer detailed view I can select columns to display artist title, track number, etc for MP3 files. Is this functionality available under Krusader, Nautilus, Dolphin, etc? If so please help.
I downloaded a kde-multimedia package that was supposed to make this work in Konqueror but no luck.
I want to make a program that edits music file ID3 tags, for example: overwrites all "artist" tags for a list of files with other one. I know some c++,python and shell scripting.
- how can I get just the metadata from a mp3 file? Mplayer shows file metadata before playback, but I could not find a switch for mplayer that displays just the data
- how can I edit the metadata?
- What libraries should I check out if I want to implement this with C++ or python?
- What about "custom" metadata tags? In the foobar2000 media player for m$ i could make my own metadata tags (like "record label"). How can these be edited & added?
I have a UUID file that has grown to 8.4 gigs... and I don't know what to do. Its sucking up all the free space in the partition. I guess I will have to delete the file but I don't know how to do it properly.I suspect this is a backup of all the data I have been moving around between drives recently.
What I am attempting to do is rename some television shows into the format that my PVR will understand for the naming convention. I have a script that cleans them up about 95%, now I just cant figure out the last little detail..
For example: NCIS_01.mkv I think it can be done in sed, but I just figure out how. I need it to be renamed to: NCIS_s01e01.mkv
How can I make sed (or something else) match the last "_" and any numbers after it until the period and then insert text between them reliably?
Depending on the show, it can be something like: This_show_name_243.avi so I need it to be more flexible than I can figure out how to do..
I ftp into the server and see the files, but when i try to make a directory or upload a file it returns an error saying that permission is denied.I am wanting the users to be able to log on with their user account and then be able to have full control over their directories. What can i do to fix this problem?I have enabled port forwarding for ftp. What else is there i can do? If you need any extra information, let me know! I would like to get this fixed asap! Here is my vsftpd.conf file.
# Example config file /etc/vsftpd.conf # # The default compiled in settings are fairly paranoid. This sample file
It returns an error dealing just with the h264 codec saying that I need to use a vpre parameter? I can't find any documentation on using the vpre parameter.
I am running shell command through C program using system() routine.
I am executing "opcontrol --status" an executable using the this routine and I get the following error. access: unix error (2) No such file or directory
But when I give the complete path to the executable it runs perfectly.
The executable is installed in "/usr/local/bin/" And the path variable has this path.
In trying to solve a friend's lack of foresight, i have currently disabled my system. I was using dd_rescue to make a copy of a drive with a corrupt and unfixable Partition Table. I was a fool, and had a drive mounted to /media/Storage, but ran the backup to /media/storage. Thus, dd_rescue completely filled my primary drive before informing me that there was a problem. I don't really trust myself with command line work, so I foolishly sudo'ed nautilus and deleted the folder /media/storage. Unfortunately, I didn't realize it, but the available space on the drive still read 0bytes. I tried Terminal work to do a sudo apt-get clean command, but for some inane reason, the laptop screen won't support the display setting for the Terminal login, so I just had to hope that I was doing it right. I wasn't, and decided to try working from a Live CD so I could see what I was doing. the folder /root/.Trash/ doesn't exist on Ubuntu's install drive, and I can't figure out why the properties of the drive say "contents: 241310 files, 3.7 GB" but also "Total capacity: 52.8 GB. Free space: 0 bytes"
Any suggestions on how I can get this to shake out?
Using a list of names (over 4000 of them) painstakingly gleaned from the source file years ago for a database file, I want to match the names against the source file so that they can be updated with the tags <forename></forename> in the original source file.
I placed the list of names in @forenames (only posted a few of them here).
Perl script is:
I am able to get the name bracketed by the tags to appear on the console screen but don't know how to apply the output to the source file. Perhaps I need to do a match on the words then some kind of edit to surround the matching words with the xml tags? I'm a rank novice doing this as a labour of love for a friend.
I have many servers running CentOS 5. I noticed yesterday many had a notificationthat updates were available. I clicked update and they all fail using the GUI. WhenI run yum update it shows packages to be upgraded and asks me to confirm. I enter yes but Yum fails on the first package. I wonder if this has something to do with therelease of 5.3?I get the same failure if I run a yum upgrade too.
