View 9 RepliesI'm using lucid desktop edition, and I need to encrypt my home folder, but I didn't mark that option in the fresh instalation of lucid. I'd like the login screen to ask for the password and then decrypt my files. Is it possible to do without erasing my user?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a script that crond runs each night. The script pulls some sensitive files from an SFTP server and stores them in a folder on the local machine.I need to encrypt those files on the filesystem. Ideally, I could encrypt the folder they're stored in to require a password whenever the files are accessed. The problem is that then crond wouldn't be able to access the files. Using something like ecryptfs would allow the cron script to mount the encrypted storage by supplying the password, but now the keys to the kingdom are just sitting in a cron shell script.
Is there a good way to approach this? One thought I had was finding a tool that lets cron encrypt the files using a public key, then require a password to decrypt them (silently using the password to access the related private key)I don't want too much complexity on the decryption side, because I will have relatively non-tech people needing to access those files occasionally.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Ubuntu Jaunty (I do not like Karmic, please don't try to make me upgrade) and after installing all my programs I realized I did not encrypt my home directory.
I know it's very simple to do this during the installation but I can't seem to find an option to do it after it.
Is there a way to do this?
is there a way to password protect a file or folder from the terminal? i wanted to do this because I may have several friends depositing files on my ssh server that they don't want each other to see. Or i might have a file i don't want them to see.I installed cryptkeeper, but it can't take commands from the terminal. Anything else I can try?

View 1 Replies View RelatedUsing Thunderbird 3.1.10 and no longer can see copies of my sent messages in the Sent Folder. I tried to tick the box in account settings to save a copy and it would not take the change. What I did notice is that the e-mails sent are being received on the other end, but I do not have a copy in the Sent folder. It seems as though my e-mail account has been hijacked, and I changed my e-mail account password as a precaution. I am also getting e-mail BACK in my in box that I sent to other people. My AT&T account uses yahoo and my account through AT&T was originally bellsouth.net What can I do to make sure I get a copy of all of my e-mail sent out?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using Mozilla Thunderbird 3.0.4 with Ubuntu 10.04 but I find the default highlight colours extremely hard to read when new mail arrives in a folder.
The default colour is grey which is both difficult to read and greyed out items have tended to mean something is not available. How can I can i change the default colour to something much better or am I stuck with extremely poor choice ? Has it something to do with 10.04 .
I recently moved to Thunderbird 3, and liked the tab viewing, even the search module. I have problem though, that currently tried to solve, without success. When I search for mails from a sender (eg. coss@cat.com), a new tab is opened, and I can see them all, but I can't figure out how to copy all these mails into a desired folder of Inbox (eg. cat). So ... I use Ububtu 9.10.

How to i can encrypt ext3 or ext4 file system.
I recently installed Fedora 11 64bit and I am curious about encrypting my entire file system for security purposes. I've been on Google for a while now and I keep finding info on how to encrypt a specific folder or home directories but nothing on the entire file system (or I'm missing something big here). It's hard for me to imagine that it isn't. If so, do I need to encrypt the partition my file system is on before installing it? What software should I use? There seems to be so many, it's difficult to keep them all straight.

Recently I setup a system for a non-technical user. He is only using Firefox, Pidgin and OpenOffice for about 2 hours a day. I have created a folder "/home/jim/myFiles" where he can save his document files. But Jim has accidentally deleted his myFiles folder on 2 occasions. He had intended to delete a file in that folder. Is there a way to lock the folder so that the user and create/read/write documents in that folder but not delete the folder itself?
