Ubuntu Servers :: Multiple User For A Web Server?

create an Apache web server with multiple user accounts, for work. Each user needs to be able to upload his/her files via SSH Each user needs his/her own web directory, (preferably in their home directory for ease with permissions) There web directories need to be password protected Only one user account (mine) should be allowed remote SSH control. It needs to be easy to add new users to the system.

Debian Configuration :: Preventing Multiple Instances Of User?

Sep 6, 2010

Currently, a user is able to log into multiple terminals simultaneously, creating a copy of their roaming profile on each, and potentially causing problems if the instances are logged out in the wrong order. Is there any way to prevent this, so that if a user has logged in on a machine and not logged out (and perhaps some timeout has not yet expired) then their login attempts on another machine will be rejected.

OpenSUSE Install :: User Locked Out After Multiple Passwords?

Dec 5, 2009

I am having a problem with some users who get locked out after more than 3 failed attempts at login. This is exactly what I want to see - they will eventually remember those stronger passwords (maybe?) - but how do I re-enable their access? I haven't tried this on a live box but I can easily recreate the situation via vnc to the server in question and I assume the result would be the same. I like the policy that leads to this but I do need to let them back in - eventually. Where is the blacklist kept and how do I edit/reset it?

General :: Run Script From Another With Multiple User Inputs And Expect

Jun 5, 2011

I am literally bashing (pun intended) my head against the keyboard at this minute! I am trying to automate a script via cron for my centos server. The script requires two user inputs (e.g. read VAR). However, I do not want to edit the original file, as I would like to be able to run it normally as well. It is also made by someone else, and so if an update becomes available, it will be easier to install. My idea is that i create a cron script, to run this second script from, and the only way i could find was with expect. However I am having troubles, In order to test out expect, I have created the following:
test.sh

[Code]...

It looks as if the second input is completely ignored ?! what i am doing wrong? or if there is a more elegant solution to running a script from a script with user inputs?

Software :: Monitoring User Account Used By Multiple Users?

Feb 3, 2011

I am in the process of setting up a user account for an SFTP server that will possibly be used by multiple users. I am aware of the security risk involved, but it is a necessary evil.

I am trying to come up with an effective means of monitoring the user account. So far I have a script that runs the finger command, and emails me once an hour. Is there something else that I can do to keep a close eye on the account?

CentOS 5 Server :: Postfix Multiple Domains One User?

Jun 2, 2010

I am currently running a apache/postfix email service on my server. I am using aliases for two addresses for example:

trscookie@serverone.com
trscookie@secondserver.com

so the emails no matter which domain receives the email trscookie always will receive the email.

However I am unable to work out how to 'reverse' this process, for example.

If i was to go to secondserver.com/webmail I would like the emails to get sent from trscookie@secondserver.com however they are currently all coming from serverone.com. Is it possible to configure this so that it is sent from the correct domain?

Here is my main.cf:

queue_directory = /var/spool/postfix
command_directory = /usr/sbin
daemon_directory = /usr/libexec/postfix
mail_owner = postfix

[Code].....

Ubuntu Networking :: Mounting Samba Shares On A Box With Multiple User Accounts?

Jul 29, 2010

I setup samba file sharing to auto mount in fstab. Everything works great except when a computer has more than on user account.

The folders in mnt are owned by root and ownership changes to the first user account no matter what user logs in. So only the first user can edit files in the mounted share.

Anyone got a clue why this is happening? Seems the mount folders should be changing ownership to the user that is logged in.

Fedora :: User Memory Allocation - Set A Maximum Limit On The Amount Of Ram A User Can Utilize?

Jul 24, 2009

I have a few multi-user servers in an academic laboratory. I am having a problem with some users maxing out the available RAM, causing such sever slowdowns the machine essentially crashes. My servers are Dell Power Edge's running Ubuntu 8.10 Server Edition (Not my choice). I would like to set a maximum limit on the amount of ram a user can utilize. This morning I experimented with setting limits via /etc/security/limits.conf and using ulimit. Neither of them prevented my test program, a simple infinite loop of mallocs, from crashing the server.

Red Hat / Fedora :: Login - Error "no Profile For The User Can Be Found And It Couldnt Create Per-user Gnome Configuration Directory"

Aug 8, 2010

I have a network set up that has been working for around a year with no problems but has now developed a login problem. The system was set up with a main server with all users on it and another PC located elsewhere that people could log onto using there personal login and password that then gained access to the account on the main server. This remote PC has now got the problem. When you try to log onto an account it comes up with the message "your session has lasted less than 10 seconds. If you have not logged out yourself this could mean there is a installation problem or that you are out of disk space."

Error message says that no profile for the user can be found and it couldnt create per-user gnome configuration directory. I can log on as root onto the remote PC as it is obviously a local account but all the account on the main server are not accessible. From the root account I can see that the connection to the server is OK and I can actually log into the accounts on the server using the failsafe session so the physical network is OK.

I never built or designed this set up and to be honest I normally work with windows so its all a bit strange to me. Both PC's run Centos 5. I have checked the messages log and there doesnt seem to be any indication of a problem. Just that it stopped connecting from the remote PC. The accounts are all active on the main server itself and have no problems being accessed.

General :: Good Support To Multiple Desktops AND Multiple Monitors

Jun 4, 2010

I'm starting to have A LOT of opened windows in my machine. Sometimes within a project, I have e-mail/task management/personal e-mail/twitter, and a lot of different opened applications/terminals in my Linux workstation.Sometimes it would be interesting to have different workspaces to projects instead of this configuration I have nowadays that are classes of work (bad name, I know, but I think you got the idea).I'm starting to think about using two monitors: one with Corporate Management, Work and Personal. The second monitor is only the development state: each workspace here is about a project being worked on instead of groups of works like before. A workspace may be implementing different classes for example.

My question is: I just want to change to a second monitor using the mouse. I want to still be able to change workspaces in the same monitor using keyboard shortcuts. The keyboard shortcuts wouldn't change monitors, just worskpaces on the same monitor. All the tutorials I read (like this one) only tells how to use multiple monitors but doesn't answer my question about keyboard shortcuts.Does Linux (Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx or Debian 5.0.5 Lenny) support this envisioned setup (Different workspaces in a way that keyboard workspace switching only works in the current monitor) ? If so, how?I haven't tested this setup, that's why I'm asking. In this question the user says it works exactly how I want it to behave, can someone else confirm it?

General :: Multiple Servers Or One Server With Multiple VMWare?

Feb 7, 2011

I'm looking at setting up a couple automated systems: Here are a few examples:

* Internal accounting system to download and process emails
* Public web server to visit

I could put each system on its own separate box -- for example, it's generally good practice to separate anything that external users have access to (such as a webserver) from internal processes such as accounting. Now, rather than dishing out the money for two separate servers, could I get away with just installing new instances of VMWare on the same box for each system?

To give you an idea, these are not large scale computationally sensitive systems. The accounting one is simply downloading and tallying emails, and the latter is just a webserver with maybe 5 hits per day on a good day. I could definitely pick up a new box for say $50, but I wanted to know the general practice of using VMWare on the same box versus two separate boxes.
