Programming :: Run A Program With Two Modules And Many Subroutines?

Jul 11, 2011

I am trying to run a program with two modules and many subroutines. Each module and subroutine is in a seperate file. The main program is "nma.f90". I am somewhat a beginner in fortran, and have not written the code myself. I am using the following to compile and run the program :

gfortran -ffree-form -w nma.f90 sub_pot_coulomb.f sub_hess_numer_coulomb.f sub_hess_lj.f sub_hess_exp6.f sub_gethinv.f sub_poten.f sub_pot_stretch.f sub_pot_bend.f sub_slist.f sub_blist.f sub_tlist.f sub_imp_tlist.f sub_hess_stretch.f sub_hess_bend.f sub_getname.f sub_hess_tors.f sub_hess_imp_tors.f sub_pot_torsion.f sub_pot_imp_torsion_cvff.f sub_ewald_part.f sub_reciprocal_energy.f

[code]....

I can understand that the function pot_coulomb has been defined multiple number of times, but how do I know where (what those multiple files are)? It tells me the only place where I already know it is defined. Does this mean that somewhere in all the files that I have written, there is another definition of pot_coulomb ? (this would be very unlikely though, as each subroutine has its own file, and the corresponding file's name is the name of the function prefixed by "sub")Cant I get the names of all the places where its defined, so that I can look into this?

Programming :: Using SIGNALS In Kernel Modules?

Apr 23, 2010

I am writing a kernel module which need to do something at some interval. Now this problem can be solved by using a user process, which will send signal to the kernel and the kernel would do accordingly. But it would be nice, i could do it within the kernel module itself. Is there any way to use SIGNALs inside the kernel module?

Programming :: Avoiding Global Variables In Kernel Modules?

Jun 27, 2010

I have two modules A and B in the kernel which i am trying to hack by introducing a variable in A which is of type 'extern' (and using EXPORT_SYMBOL) and then calling it in B. Now the problem is how to introduce that variable in module A. Currently i have made a global variable and it works fine but global variable in kernel is a bad bad thing.

I tried having an 'extern' function in A which have that variable and calling that function in module B, but then again how would module A use my variable unless the variable is available outside the scope of that function and that again means a global variable.

General :: Rc.modules Not Loading Modules At Startup?

Curiously, though, if I execute rc.modules AFTER the machine has booted it will load the modules just fine. Just not during the boot up process. Thinking that hotstart might have been causing problems I've disabled hotstart (chmod -x) temporarilly to remove it from the picture, but there was no change.

Ubuntu Installation :: Boot Error "modprobe: FATAL Could Not Load /lib/modules 2.6.35-22 Generic Modules No Such File Or Directory"

Apr 14, 2011

Tonight I installed ubuntu 10.10 (32 bit) on an external usb harddrive with a dvd I burned and I used my older desktop. I disconnected all internal and external drives first so everything had to be put on the usb drive I selected (only option available). I used the option to load extra software, use the entire hard drive, and let the software do it's thing. I basically had no options where to put things and it didn't have much choice.

When I boot the usb drive on my laptop (win 7 64 bit) by telling the bios to boot to it first... I get an error: modprobe: FATAL Could not load /lib/modules 2.6.35-22 generic modules No such file or directory. This message appears twice and then it does boot into ubuntu and seems to work fine. I'm new to this OS so that is an uneducated guess but the things I have done seem to be working. So exactly what is this error referring too? Is there a way to fix the problem or do I just ignore it.

Slackware :: ERROR: No /lib/modules/2.6.33.4-smp Kernel Modules Tree Found For Kernel "2.6.33.4-smp" ... For Mkinitrd - Encrypted Installation

Jul 22, 2010

I am trying to setup Slacware 13.1 x86_64 to a encrypted partition. I used the README_CRYPT.TXT howto : [URL] At the step when I create an initrd.gz I get this error: Quote: ERROR: No /lib/modules/2.6.33.4-smp kernel modules tree found for kernel "2.6.33.4-smp"

I tried to look into the directory and there was only modules under 2.6.44.3. So I tried to change the command into: Quote: mkinitrd -c -k 2.6.33.4 -m ext3 -f ext3 -r cryptroot -C /dev/sda2

This command was successful, but I don't know if this is alright. I made the changes in lilo.conf, add initrd = initrd.gz. This is all on unencrypted /boot partition. The boot=/dev/sda1 I also set for the unencrypted boot partition. When I boot the system I get a kernel panic:

Programming :: Gcc And Pow In A C Program?

Feb 5, 2009

I found some interesting behavior when discussing the pow function from Math.h with someone. I am well aware of the need to compile with the -lm flag, but to my surprise this actually isn't necessary if the arguments to the pow function are literals. For example, this program compiles in gcc without using -lm:

Code:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <math.h>
int main()

[code]....

If I try to change the call to any of these:

Code:

double bCubed = pow(2.0, e);

Code:

double bCubed = pow(b, 3.0);

Code:

double bCubed = pow(b, e);

Then the -lm option is required or else it can't compile. So does anyone know why it's necessary to use -lm when the argument(s) is/are variable(s) but it works fine if both arguments are literal values? As a side note, any of the above compile with g++ however. Also, if it helps, this is the version of gcc I'm using:

gcc (GCC) 4.1.2 20080704 (Red Hat 4.1.2-44)

This doesn't happen on my Mac however that is running: i686-apple-darwin9-gcc-4.0.1 (GCC) 4.0.1 (Apple Inc. build 5484)

Programming :: Chat Program In C

Am new to this community and this is my first post. am doing a project where i have to develop a wireless ad hoc routing protocol. I have just begun working on the project. I did not know where to start, so started off with a simple chat program using TCP and thought of making the modifications to it later on. But I do have a prob even i running that!

Am not getting the messages in a synchronized manner. The prog is running fine, but the messages that i type from the server are not reaching the client at all, and at times some garbage values are getting printed(When the strcmp()fn returns 1, "connection terminated" gets printed timely in both the sides. this is the oly situation where i do not get garbage values.) am using VC++ 6.0 here.I have been breaking my head for the past 3-4 days for this simple issue. any response to this would be of great help.

Programming :: How To Program Effectively

Jan 29, 2011

I'm new to programming under linux (not new to programming). Before that I have written c++ codes in Visual Studio under windows for some years. I read some tutorials and learned editing codes with vim and compile codes with g++ or make tool. And I tried gdb.

But I think compared to my coding experience in Visual Studio, these steps are very ineffective. With VS, after I wrote codes, I just press ctrl+f7 to compile and ctrl+f5 to run the codes. If I want to debug, press f5, and I can see every variable in a 'watch' window.

Under linux, after I write codes, I need to quit vim, type make to compile. If I have some mistakes, I have to remember the line numbers and re-open vim to check the errors. And I think debugging with gdb is so hard.

I think as a newbie to programming under linux, maybe I haven't find the right tools. Or programming under linux is just so hard so a programmer who can overcame these could be strong enough to do programming without some IDE tools?
