I hava a source file add.c

then i compile it, gcc -c add.c now we get a object file add.o, I want to execute the function add(int a,int b)(the functinon in the object file add.o) how can i use libbfd to execute it?
So the above is the error message I am receiving when trying to compile (at make stage when error received) binutils 2.20.1. I am compiling in Virtualbox and the base machine is SourceMage 64bit.

But i dnt want to wait inside the func1 for that 1 sec. Meanwhile i want to run another function say func2 in background . some thing like less priority function. Whnever the time come to execute the periodic function func1 it has to go to func1 and then again in the waiting time , the second function func2 will resume. I wanted to know how to do it.. Can somebody tell me is it possible using signal in linux.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy setup is Ubuntu 10.04, eclipse 3.5.2 I have created the source for a shared object and a test program to test it. The program executes dlopen() and I get back a valid library handle. I can use that handle and dlsym() to get the address of my C exported functions just as I expect. I recently added a change to have the so instantiate an object at load time by using a __attribute__ ((constructor)) function named so_init(). I also added a main() function (one wasn't required before). Adding a bunch of printf()s and using the debugger in eclipse I watch the code run and the so_init() and main() functions are never called. As far as I can tell, eclipse has -shared, -fPIC and -Wl setup and specified correctly. Am I missing a compile/link flag? Is there some magic I need in the so_main.cpp to get this working. I have this written as dual source code. The same code works quite nicely in Windows which calls dllMain() as expected.

I have tried removing the offending package, although I cannot find it. I have also tried re-installing. I have also tried changing FC and F90 flags to avoid the MPI version.

I read in "Thinking in C++" that the linker adds (by default) a startup module to the object files that an application should be made of. Now when I use g++, I can create an single object module out of a single source code file then execute it in the terminal like this:
./objectFile.out
How can this object file be executed while it doesn't contain the startup module? In Windows, object files usually get combined into an executable file (somthing.exe) then that executable can be executed, is this not necessary in Linux? does the OS perform required actions before it executes that object file?
I am trying to have GNU assembler produce object file COFF format? I did not find relevant information from GNU assembler's manual.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI wanted to know how can I change the default place of shared object files of a program in a system. let me explain it better for you : I have an embedded computer with Linux OS that its file system is read only and I can not add any file to /usr /lib and ..... and I can just mount a SD memory card to it and copy all of my programs to it and run them from there as you understand I have two choices to choose, first make one big binary file for each program that I am doing it now and it is not a suitable solution and the second is finding the way to change default place of shared object file of my program.

Either I have incorrect syntax, or am not implementing it right. another solution would have one class containing definitions of all possible shapes, But this would take up extra memory. Other solutions I thought of seem too round-about, and seems there is a simpler solution that I have overlooked.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to execute a 4GE file using command something like this "/usr/bin/ksh path of the file with some arguments " ex: /usr/bin/ksh /home/abc.4ge S "./xyz" . I am able to execute the 4GE without this "/usr/bin/ksh" specifying in the command which basically runs in ksh shell itself. But when i try to run it exclusively using the path of the shell it gives me an error something like this "/usr/bin/ksh: /home/abc.4ge: cannot execute". I did check the permissions and all the file has execute permission.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble writing a script that monitors a text file. When the file contains number 1 (or any other string that is not a command) it does nothing, but when it is something different from 1, it executes that command.
So, there are 2 files: monitor.mon - this is the file that will be checked constanlty; and test.sh - the script that does the job. The monitor.mon file will have its content modified by php. This means a web page will have a form where I input commands and writes does commands in the file. Test.sh will watch when the file's content changes from character 1 to a command, execute that command and write back a 1 so it will not execute it more times.
I tried combining while and if but with no success. Tried reading the file with cat and grep -e but it doesn't seem to recognize when content changes.

I am doing some Linux kernel programming for my research project. I need to record the timestamp (by using cpuid and rdtsc) when an interrupt handler (top half) is first invoked. Due to the time critical nature of the problem itself, I have to do the timestamping inside the interrupt handler itself (the first operation when the handler is called). However, I understand that tasks that are not so time critical should be deferred to a tasklet function (bottom half) for processing because other interrupts are disabled in a (top-half) interrupt handler. I am currently out of idea on how I can pass the timestamp information that I have obtained in the interrupt handler to the corresponding tasklet function.

I compile a program like this: icc main.c -L. -lxyz -L/usr/X11R6/lib -lX11 -lpthread -lm -std=c99
(But I have no concrete idea about what -L and -l mean. l is short for lib? Why? -L seems to specify the path for some library that follow directly afterwards?). Anyway, it works.
So I get an output file a.out (why a?), which I run by writing ./a.out .
Then I get this error message: error while loading shared libraries: lxyz.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I have it in my directory but it won't find it? What's wrong?
