How do I decide what IP address to enter in my config file when assigning a static IP. All of the instructions I can find say something like "of course you should modify the file according to your own settings." Should I just use the gateway and IP that returns from "iwconfig" and "route -nee"?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm only partially new to Linux. I'm running Fedora 11. I've just set up two machines, I thought to be identical. Evidently I missed something. I had some problems getting the network started on the second machine, and I must have forgotten a name change somewhere. Anyway, after doing lot's of comparisons between the boxes, editing and renaming and re-linking the ifcfg-GigaStorey file, they are both functioning. The problem is that whenever I start or restart the network on box 2, it reports the following error:
Bringing up interface GigaStorey: RTNETLINK answers: File exists
Error adding address 192.168.1.6 for eth0.
[ OK ]
The file ifcfg-GigaStorey is linked in the following directories
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts
/etc/sysconfig/networking/devices
code....
Like I said, it's not super critical, just annoying. The networking comes up ok, but the error is puzzling. I figure if I learn what this problem is I'll be one step closer to my Linux beanee.
This morning it would not boot; when I tried to wake up the system, it gave me a bunch of errors, the last ones being as follows: "mount error: could not resolve address for servername: No address associated with hostname mountall: mount /media/shares [1402] terminated with status 1" I am writing this in Win 7 since I lost ubuntu. I am using ubuntu 11.04.

how to calculate (if possible) the end address of an image file in a flash memory. I'm trying to create a checksum and checkheader function and the info that I got is the file's offset, how many sector it consumes and its size. I kinda need the end address, sad thing is, I don't know how to calculate it.test.img's start address is 0, the size is 0x20000 and consumes 3 sectors.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI need a small shell based program that prints the mac address of physical ethernet adapter from it's firmware. I need this utility for license generation and appliance activation. I have tried several example but none of them is flawless, The easiest method I have found is to parse the output of "ifconfig" command but it has also some drawbacks.
1. Firstly program should differentiate between physical and virtual adapters. Physical means installed on board(wired or wireless) or installed additionally. Virtual adapters are those created by VPN or created by virtualization apps such as VirtualBox/VMWare etc. I am not interested in virtual ones.
2. In case of more them one physical adapters(wired and wireless), it should print the mac address and description(name & vendor) of both/all adapters.
3. If media is disconnected then also it should be able to read the mac address and description(name, vendor) of card.
4. This one is bit complex. I know that 'ethtool' can show you the universal mac address but it's limited to use only 2 types of drivers and won't work in all cases.

When I try to access at physical address (0xD0000), we known that it is necessary to convert physical address to virtual address using function IOREMAP(0xD0000, 1024) and return me 0xC00D0000.
Now our doubt is when I have a board with I/O in address 0x150, is it necessary to convert this address to other virtual address??? or with inb(0x150) return me state of I/O in this address? How can I known where is this I/O address in my map memory?
We make everyday a DB Mysql backup on Linux redhat Enterprise. We are using a bash shell script (and putting it in the crontab) to execute it automatically everyday. We added a line to this script telling, once the backup has completed, to find old backup files (stored on hard disk after each backup) older than x days to remove them. We use the find command (search for file type) with the mtime option and in combination with rm command. Everything runs ok but we also want to add some new code to the same line: If find command cannot find anything or fails, for example if it cannot delete file or fails, send the error message (standard error output) to an error file (like error000001 and increasing) and mail the errorxxxx file to an email address for example to admin@companyname.com. What would be the code for this issue to add it to our find command in the same bash shell script??

It's kind of pointless imo for the types of errors that Exiv2 reports on to be written to a text file without some reference to the name of the file that prompted the error message in the first place. Is there a way to have bash identify the file that prompts the error and writes its name to the same file as the error (in my case, frencherrors.TX)?I've tried a painfully simple syntax that does something identical to a 2>&1 'suffix", namely frenchgentsfinder.sh 2 $file>>frencherrors.TX. It makes sense to me as written, but I'd like to know why I'm getting nothing on screen and everything directed to the file when what I want to see in the latter are the filenames causing the errors along with the text of the errors.
Is there another level one has to bore down into before they can garner this kind of output? If so, what is it and how does one invoke it in bash?
I am trying to find out the mac address of the eth0 port on linux probe. This port is controlled by kernal and hence I don't have control over it. How do I find out the mac address of this port ? Is there any system call which will take the ip address and will do the lookup on the linux's ip table to get the mac address ?

The keyboard seems to be dead, no keys work, not allowing me to enter the password.
Succeeded in connecting to internet using my wll phone. I can now connect using 'wvdial' command in root terminal. But I want to connect through terminal. I tried 'sudo wvdial' command. Then I am asked for my password. But I cannot type my password there. When I type, nothing appears on the terminal window. Ofcourse there's no problem with my keyboard.

The problem is:A.I sent a text file that have approximately 200kb but in the client receive only 100kb... is it fair?B.For text file,I track the result and i found that its okay for the text file. Write counter show 1024 byte every packet i sent. But when i sent mp3 file or pdf file it doenst show like this. For mp3 the data sent every packet i sent is gradually decreased from 1024 byte 1020byte contiounusly.... For pdf data its seems random.

In my project iam using timerfd.h file info. I included it header file, Iam using "arm-none-linux-gnueabi-gcc" compiler. This file exists in "arm-2010q1/arm-none-linux-gnueabi/libc/usr/include/sys". When i try to execute the program iam getting error: sys/timerfd.h: No such file or directory. remaining files able to find from the same location(sys/time.h, sys/ioctl.h,sys/socket.h).
