Jun 23, 2011Im trying to read a file in c++ and search for particular character for example if this is a list that I have:
Alice
Bob
David
[code]....
if the input is D, it should give David, if its B, gives bob. so in this case, meaning it reads the first character of every line. but if possible I want to make this dynamic so the user can specify which character position he is looking for, so in case he is looking for R as character index 3 in all lines, it should give Charlie. but the problem is, it does now recognize , besides, I do not know how to specify the character position in each line.

I want to be able to find the lines that matches my input and change the N to a Y, but only for the lines that matches the name and not any other N's My problem is the line does not always contain a P as it can be a D as well so my matching did not work. If my script issues the name $1=triva the lines will change to:

trivia:D:Y
I have the following code so far but as you can see it does not change the D's

If that letter is say "B" I would then like to replace the 2nd column in the csv with an incremental number starting at 0 (basically a count) with a prefix of B (B0000001) Sample row would be:

Oct 4, 2010I'm looking for a script (bash, python, perl etc) or even a one liner (sed, awk etc) that can take a set of files and remove any line that has more than "x" instances of any character (case sensitive). I have been doing a lot of searching and can only come up with examples of how to remove blank lines, lines that start with a certain character or lines that contain a certain string. This will be used on a system running a Kubuntu derivative.
As a very poor and basic example, I would like to take files that contain lines like:

If I tell the script that 2 is the maximun number of times any character can appear in any line.
I know this must be possible, but for the life of me I cannot find even an example that will lead me in the right direction or better yet a piece of code I can use.

Here is the process which requires it: The script is reaches out (via ftp) and pulls down a file(s) and delete it afterwards. This is halfhazard because in the instance it doesnt pull down the file, yet still deletes it, we are up a creek. I am looking to pull it down to a temp location and then verify that file exists in the location in which it needs to be present to process before deleting it, adding a little extra layer for security. The script itself is finished.If I put a file name in manually it works perfect. I just need a way to pump the filename into the variable.

I also need to format the output so that files are grouped in different groups, group A, B, and C and etc based on file name. I would like the output of that do not exists files to be sorted based on second number in the file name than group according. I understand some of the basics of bash scripting something along of the lines of a loop and if statements might do the trick. Below is what I have so far. I don’t car so much about the script reporting back the file exists I prefer to only know if the file is missing and is less than 3 days old. Problem is if a file dose not exists in the reports file the test compares against the wrong file.

Jan 1, 2011I've got a strange problem with firefox on Fedora 14 x86_64, at startup it just shows a dialog with a heading Malformed File and the following description:Firefox could not install this item because "" (provided by the item) is not well-formed or does not exist. Please contact the author about this problem.(see attachment.)there is only an OK button. Pressing it, nothing happens! firefox doesn't come up! I tried firefox --safe-mode,the same dialog pops up but after pressing ok, the "Firefox Safe Mode" dialog shows. No matter what I select on this dialog, firefox simply never comes up! I even created a new user, to try firefox without any addons, but the results are the same! Reinstalling doesn't help also! It has started since last firefox update (firefox-3.6.13-1.fc14.x86_64)
