View 1 Repliesi have a loop which produces new value everytime it runs. i want to store the results in an array. how can i do dat??
loop is like:
a=0
declare v
while ((....))
do
v[$a]="$r"
let a=a+1
done
while doing this it is not treating v as array but as variable and it is overriding the value and old value is lost..i am using bash shell version 3.00.15
I am in need of some syntax help. I'm trying to figure out how to store and retrieve an array out of a hash of hashes. For this example, I'm trying to access the city list for a particular state for a particular country. I understand I could do a join and split on the hash key to combine Country and State, but trying to keep things separated.The code I have gets in all the information for the Countries, and states, and gets the list of cities together, no problem. I store all the city names in an array, then make an anonymous pointer to the array for the hash, like this - $MY_CITIES{$COUNTRY}{$STATE} = [@CITIES]I believe that syntax is correct, or is it? What I'd like to do is I need to cycle through every hash to find if a city exists or not. If it exists in 3 states, then it should print 3 times. Here is the code block to search -
Code:
for $COUNTRY (@LIST_OF_COUNTRIES) {
for $STATE ( keys %MY_CITIES{$COUNTRY){$STATE} ) {

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am working on a PHP enabled webpage that will allow a user to select multiple files and directories to upload from a local machine to an ftp server. I am comfortable with uploading the files from the machine to the server. The problem is making it easy to select all the desired files. What I would like to do is create an expandable file tree that lists all the directories and files on the local filesystem. From there, the user should be able to select directories and files using checkboxes. Upon clicking submit, all of the selected files should be fed into an array of files that can be sequentially uploaded to the ftp server.

The only restriction it has, is that the parent must be smaller the its two children. i think something like quick-sort, but i don't know how to implement it.

My assessment is making a tree from a text file as follows: -reading a file line by line
-making a binary tree from it
- traverse by level the binary tree
- posting the traversal result to the same file without overwriting the text file- it is required to be append to the bottom of the text file (i have to do this in 4 languages: c#,PHP from Xampp,java, python)

I am working on a build-test system of a set of codes. The system (large enough) is such that one shell script does some work and calls another shell script. This inturn calls a third shell script and so on. How to get the list of all such shell scripts according to the way they are called.? More like a shell script flow tree?
Ex.
Code:
#./1.sh
|
`--> 2.sh
|
`--> 3.sh
|
`--> 4.sh
|
`--> 5.sh ....
.

.
etc.
I found it easiest to embed narp into the gtk+-2.0 installation because all I needed to do was tweak the Makefile.am and Makefile.in files and let configure do the rest.This is a hack. I've failed at getting my own makefiles to work.
Would anyone point me in the right direction on how to properly make an installer for Linux? Also, what is the correct/common directory tree for Linux software packages? Any more suggestions on proceeding with this project using community standards?
I have a directory listing with many subdirectories having many files. I want to recursively search for the oldest 5 files starting from the base directory and not 5 from each subdirectory. I am writing a shell script which sorts them using ls -lRtur|egrep "txt|jpg" > /tmp/file1 Now from this /tmp/file1 file I want to sort the files same as what the ls -ltr command does that is oldest file time to newest file time first. How do I sort based on Linux time stamp? The files itself also have Linux timestamps embedded in them So I can sort based after extracting them as well if it is easier.
My /tmp/file1 has entries like below.
-rw-rw-r--. 1 usr1 usr1 705 2010-01-22 17:25 sample20100603173659.jpg
I want to get the 5 oldest files and then delete them.
I have two students whose windows laptops are riddled with malware and not working properly. They want me to help them install Linux (which we use in school), but they are concerned about their iTunes.
Having avoided iPods as "defective by design", I know nothing about iTunes whatsoever. However I remember reading about DRM locking and such problems that have me concerned that I won't be able to do it.
Where does iTunes store its stuff?
Can I copy its data store to an external drive, and then into a linux home?
Then will it work on wine, or can another manager (rhythmbox etc) access the itunes data?
Alternatively, if I partition the drive and install linux, can rythmbox/wine/something access itunes data on the win partition?
Supposing they are buying music through iTunes, what will happen to that account?
Finally, one of them has an iphone. Does that work with linux?
Ironic that an apple application is blocking migration away from windows.
I had done a new lucid install to a 1 TB RAID 1 array using the alternate CD a few weeks back. I messed up that system trying to some hardware working that lucid doesn't have drivers for yet, so I gave up on it and reinstalled to a single 80 GB disk that I now want to move over to the RAID array.
I moved all of the existing files on the array to a single folder, then copied all of the folders from the 80 GB disk over to the array with permissions and symlinks (minus the contents of /proc and /sys, which I created empty).
These are the commands I used:
Quote:
p -a -d -R -v -t /media/raid_array /b*
cp -a -d -R -v -t /media/raid_array /d*
cp -a -d -R -v -t /media/raid_array /e*
cp -a -d -R -v -t /media/raid_array /h*

I tried to change fstab to use the 689a... for root, but when I try to boot, it's still trying to open /dev/disk/by-uuid/412d...
So then I booted from the single disk again and chrooted into the array, then ran update-initramfs -u. I got 3 "grep: /proc/modules: No such file or directory" errors, and "cat: /proc/cmdline: No such file or directory"- so I created directory /proc/modules, created an empty file /proc/cmdline, and ran the initramfs update again. Then I tried to shut down, which hung (probably because I was doing all of this from a terminal window in Gnome), so I killed the power after a couple of minutes.
It's still trying to use /dev/disk/by-uuid/412d... to boot.
What am I missing? I assume I just have to change the UUID to mount as root, but I don't know how.
Code:
ls Again the command can be stored in a variable and then executed. Like
Code:
var=ls
&var
The above two codes are the same. The problem occurs when we try to pipeline it. Consider the following problem:
Code:
ls | grep *
works fine...but when we try to store it in a variable and run the command there is an error.
Code:
var="ls|grep *"
$var
how to store this kind of commands in a variable?

my first thought was to use a multimap where the key is the date, and the value is the activity, however I would like to keep the activities in a specific order. I have tried to find the proper syntax for this but have frustratingly come up empty. Even google provided little assistance.
