Programming :: Scripting: Using "File1" As List Of Objects To Search For In "File2"
Aug 30, 2010
The goal is to auto-update a webpage that contains links to network devices. These devices are all set to DHCP, and their hostnames are not guaranteed to stay the same, so static IPs or accessing via hostname is NOT an option.
Process: Run a script every hour or so to query devices on the local network to generate a list of responding devices by MAC address and what their current IP is (results.lst). Using a "static" MAC address list file "printers.db" as the database search "results.lst" to find specific MAC addresses. When a match is found, grab the IP from "results.lst" and update "index.html" with the new IP address. No comparison needs to be done between "results.lst" IP and "index.html" IP as I just want to overwrite whatever is there.
Here is what I have so far (using dummy data):
PRINTERS.DBProduct Mac Address
Printer1 00:00:00:00:00:11
Printer2 00:00:00:00:11:11
Printer3 00:00:00:11:11:11
Printer4 00:00:11:11:11:11
Printer5 00:11:11:11:11:11
Printer6 11:11:11:11:11:11

I'm working on some code where I have two files. I know I can use cat file1 >> file2 to append file1 to the end of file2. What I was wondering is how I could append the first line of file 1 to the end of the first line of file2, then the second line, and so forth.
So if file1 was :
cat
dog
mouse
file2:
orange
red
blue
I want file2 to be:
orange cat
red dog
blue mouse
Also I need it to remove any duplicates from the same horizontal line.

I have two files, file1.traj and file2.traj. Both these files contain identical data and the data are arranged in same format in them. The first line of both files is a comment.
At line 7843 of both files there is a cartesian coordinate X, Y and Z ( three digits ). And at line 15685 there is another three digits. The number of lines in between two cartesian coordinates are 7841. And there are few hundreds of thousands of lines in a file.
What I need to do is copy the X Y Z coordinate (three digits) from file1.traj at line 7843 and paste into file2.traj at the same line number as in file1.traj. The next line will be 15685 from file1.traj and replace at line 15685 at file2.traj. And I dont want other lines (data) in file2.traj get altered. This sequence shall be going on until the end of the file. Means copy and substitude the selected lines from file1.traj into file2.traj.
I tried to use paste command but I cant do for specified line alone.
Here i showed the data format in the file. I used the line number for clarity purpose.

I have it so that an Env object contains all the variables in the current scope, and the parent scope. You can also save them to variables like objects, and my idea is to use the "." operator to get values from them.
First, how do I assign to them? I currently have it that only a variable name can be assigned to, but you should be able to assign to an "obj.value" expression, too. How do I keep track of what variable to set and still be able to say it in an expression and have it evaluate to the variable?
Second, these object don't really have a "type", they're just containers that contain any values you want under any name you want. How can I, for example, define a primitive "boolean" object and have things like if statements recognize it?

I have a question about shared objects and when mapping and linking is established in the following code...Well more of a verification.
getsetx.c - shared object source code Code: unsigned long x = 0;
unsigned long getx(void)
{
return x;
}
[Code].....
Now its my understanding when I execute ./testit, getsetx.so will get mapped into its address space at start up and testit will link any functions as they are needed..

From within B's member functions, I would like to access the public function() in class A. This is not an inheritance issue, they are two discrete classes with radically different functionality. Class A makes an object of B.

I'm writing a bash script to copy a list of files and do some stuff to them. Basically, I have the code written that does what it needs to do, but I can't quite understand why it works. I was hoping someone could clear up my understanding a bit.
Code:
The first line generates a list of files. I wrap each line in quotes because they usually have spaces in the directory names.
The second line changes IFS, and I understand what IFS itself does. What I don't quite get is what the separator becomes with that echo statement. If I'm reading that correctly, the backspace will remove the newline and essentially the result is nothing? I found this solution on a web page somewhere, but it was years old and there was no real explanation.

[code]....
This is what the object currently looks like:
Code:
public final class ImageObject<name, time>

Using: Open SUSE 11.0 64 bit, KDE 3.5.9 (release 49) and KDevelop 3.5.1. Problem: A singleton was created in subproject A, and so an object file is created in subproject A. In subproject B, I want to use that object file. We have not been able to find a way to link that object file created in subproject A with subproject B. Also, the subprojects are in different directories. We created a symbolic link to the ".h" and ".cpp" files in directory A. And the project compiles and links just fine after adding the symbolic link to the header and cpp files in subproject B. My concern is, that two objects of that singleton will be created. The whole idea of making a singleton is so that there is only one instance at a time.

I'm sure I've done this before and am having a brain fart.
I have run into this a couple of time this last month:
I have a list of torrent files (blahblahhexblah.torrent) saved in a text file. I would like to read the text file and populate the client directory.
I can echo the file using:
But I cannot remember how to pipe the output into the directory, nor can I find any resources that describe the process.
Interestingly enough, I've had a couple of opportunities to do similar tasks with passwords and privileges and even across the LAN in the last few days. Solving this problem will help me solve the others for next time.

So as you can see the ones that do not match are still present, and the ones that do match just have the extra information from file2.txt added to them.
I thought about using join but that only seems to join the ones that match displays thoes only. i would like all the information in the output file.

I have realized that in not installing suggested packages I've missed out on a ton of doc files, which would really come in handy while I'm away from internet access.
Is there a way take a list of currently installed packages and find out which of them have doc packages available? Possibly install them in a single step? I have been playing around with aptitude and apt-rdepends, but I'm not quite sure how to go about this. Somehow take a list of installed packages, run it through an apt-cache search, and end up with a list of -doc packages to install? My bash-fu isn't the greatest, and I suppose this could be a bad idea to begin with.

A search engine for software only would be nice. Member Craigevil maintains a huge list of repos here:

Might it be possible to search them all at once? Perhaps by adding them all, OR MOST of them, to /etc/apt/sources.list?

some basic programming/scripting/etc. ability but I am not able to do what I now need to do. I would like to have a link on a website that when a user clicked on that link, one script or another would execute based on what operating system that person is using. To wit: If a Mac User clicked on it, it would run a terminal script and would set up a served printer for him; if a PC user clicked on it, it would run a script to set up the served printer on his machine, you get the drift. The printer is being served on a Windows Server 2003 machine, the users are NOT domain users, the print server is also hosting the files, scripts, webpage.

I feel there's a bit of a misunderstanding going on between C++ and me...My problem is that I have a deque of pointers to a class, and create objects then add them to the deque in a for loop. However, the destructor is called on the object as soon as the loop quits.
Code:
This prints:
Code:
Now, if I change the deque from deque<Test*> to deque<Test> then it works fine - I get:
Code:
However, I can't do this with my actual code, because I am creating a deque of pointers to an abstract class, so it won't let me instantiate the class. (This is all so that I can take advantage of polymorphism, and call functions on a set of similar objects without worrying what type of object I'm dealing with).
So, I suppose my question is: what is the correct way to create that deque of pointers to the abstract class? I don't seem to be barking up the right tree currently.

I want to know which is the best scripting language right now and what you guys think its going to be the best or most used in the future, that is, in about 5-10 years. Take into account system administration and applications. This are the languages i had in mind, add more if you think other scripting languages are better or worth considering.
