Programming :: Projecting Onto A Dome Screen?
Apr 27, 2010
I'm looking for a solution to project the desktop of a Gentoo on an hemispherium using two projectors. I know it could sounds complicated and I searched during days a solution on the internet without any result. For now the desktop of the gentoo is projected onto this half dome without any transfornation. We created a sort of small API that can deforme images so they are projected in the right way in the hemispherium. But the thing is that I want the desktop to be transformed too. simulate a screen in Gentoo, film (or take screenshots of) this desktop, transform every images and then display them on the second desktop projected by the 2 projectors.I read that it is possible to start 2 differents X servers, or 2 displays in a single X server.

Now we are implementing our own shell using C++. What upseting us is the history command function, we use an array to store the history commands, and print the when receiving the up and down arrow buttons. The problem is we cannot modify the history command already printed on the terminal, we even cannot move the cursur, let alone modifying the command.

I am very new to Linux and I hope someone on here can provide some help.
Goal:
I am am developing an embedded application on Linux 2.6 that will hopefully run without a GUI. There will be no user input just simply displaying information to the user in a graphical form. I will be drawing the screen in C and outputting this to the display.
Problem:
I don't know how to draw to the display? From reading and talking with others, I think I can write to the frame buffer and that will output to the display, but I am not sure this is rite. If it is correct, can someone explain how this is done? Is there another way to draw to the screen without using the windows API?

I need a way to have screen (or dbus, whatever) to spit out a list of windows (title and number) that are active in a screen session.I'm writing a wrapper for common work tasks. Part of the functionality will check if a certain window exists, and if so let me know. The idea here is to prevent accessing the same machine twice. (although, and override option would probably be needed, just in case, but I digress...) I've searched through the screen man page and don't see anything that'll work. I'm not beyond forking screen and ending up with a custom version. However, I'd like to avoid that if I can.
Edit: I'd like to see something like "screen -S screen_name -window-list" or similar.

I actually have two reasons for posting this. One is to see if there's an actual name for characters like this:Hopefully that will show up correctly for you. If not, it's a little box with four numbers in it, one in each corner. I don't know their name or their reason for showing up, so it's hard to look for help.
My main problem, though, is that I wrote a program that prints some output to a console using ncurses as it runs. These characters show up on the console, seemingly at random, and disturb the whole thing. Sometimes I'll also get sets of characters like "[13;" I'm not printing anything bizarre on there, just strings and floating-point numbers.

I have a bash script that I want to be running on a "clean" screen, but when the script finishes/exits I want to see what was previously on the screen. Any thoughts? The "Clear" command does not enable me to get the information back, and the "Screen" Command runs the program in the original window, so you see nothing until the new screen is exited.

I am trying to make a java application run on a barebone computer connected to a tv screen trough hdmi. I want to make this run as light as possible so gnome probably is overkill. currently I'm running fluxbox but I would like to encapsulate video and some other gui stuff in the program and run it command line(trough startup script.) Another way to do this would be running it when fluxbox starts in full screen. But I really don't know how to do this or where to edit the startup script so I can run it. I'm using ubuntu 10.04 server edition and only installed jre, fluxbox, and of course ssh-server.

I have a problem for which I imagined a radical solution. Okay, I have a script that uses Alltray's "menu" feature as an interface. It's working greatly, EXCEPT sometimes lxpanel (the panel and tray of LXDE) has a hiccup and restarts, at which point the alltray menu is still running, but the icon is gone from the tray.
I want to somehow test the screen for the existence of a color, a color that is likely only to exist in the icon I've chosen for the chat menu. If the color exists on my screen, then the script can continue to do nothing, but if the color doesn't exist, then that means the alltray icon with my custom icon has disappeared, at which point I should have my bash script close the alltray process and start it again.
How to accomplish the checking of my screen for the existence of a particular color? To simplify, I already have simple screenshot scripts (scrot is good for it), so it would be fine if I could simply analyze an image.

I have written a CGI script which prints 2 tags at either end of the screen (actually they are the "Previous page" and "Next page" links for either end of the screen). The left one is under a <DIV ALIGN="LEFT"></DIV> and the right one <DIV ALIGN="RIGHT"></DIV>. Unfortunately they don't line up on screen - the left "Previous page" text is one line higher than the "Next page" link - I tried putting in a <NOBR> tag between them but it didn't work - can someone tell me what to do?

I want to print a single digit integer on to the screen using the int 0x80. I have loaded the number in the ecx(=5, say), size in edx (=4, lenght) and eax (=4) ebx (=1). I've added 48 to the contents of ecx, and then calling int 0x80, I thought should print 5 on the screen.
However it does not print anything. also gives no errors. I checked the contents of the ecx reg (gdb), it has 53.
A snippet showing the this will be great. I've seen snippets using the c library (printf), but I want to see how it is done using int 0x80.

This obnoxious bar has just appeared in Smplayer at the top of the screen. It stays there even when I go full screen. Now full screen isn't full screen and there are black edges on both sides of the screen. I have not be able to figure out how to hide it. I do not need or want this onscreen display. How can I configure Smplayer to make this go away? How can I get my 16:9 full screen aspect ratio back? I have done nothing to mplayer or smplayer as far as editing any or changing any configuration files. I tried several videos and it displays on all of them. It was not there last time I used Smplayer.

I am interested in learning 3D programming. The thing is, I would hate to put too much effort to learn something that doesn't have future and is dying. My favorite language at the time is Java. My goal is professional programming.
So I have several questions:
1. Should I learn JOGL or start learning C++ and do C++ openGL programming?
2. Is there a big difference between JOGL and C++ openGL programming?
3. Is it worth to learn openGL? Does it have a future?
4. Is it a big difference between openGL and directX coding?
5. If choosing Java, then JOGL or LWJGL?
Why and what is the main difference between them?

I have openSUSE 11.3 with an nvidia card connected with two monitors. In the past I used xinerama which was ok, but now I need to have two separate desktops, one on each screen. I set the nvidia driver with x screen, and now one screen works perfect and the other only shows a black screen. When I move the mouse over the black screen, the mouse pointer turns into an X, but moves correctly, which seems to me that the problem is that I need to set the second desktop to that screen. I looked on forums on how to do so, and no luck.
