Programming :: Use Regex In Perl Script To Detect Allowed Words From The File And Then Print Output To The Screen?
Oct 4, 2010
Its my first post in here so please be patient I am trying to use regex in perl script to detect allowed words from the file and then print output to the screen.
As an example : I have text file with orders and returns :
Item2-SKU-2-11.08.2010-online
Item3-SKU-3-11.09.2010-return
Item4-SKU-4-11.09.2010-store
My question: is it possible to make sure that i am ony outputing to the screen orders based on few conditions like Item,order form e.g. online.And is it possible to have multiple matches (Item2 only diplay if ordered online etc)

I have a problem when using awk:
e.g: awk '{processing text}' File1 > File2
But when I'm processing the File1, I want to print out some messages to the screen (not the File2). How can I do that?

I'm trying to highlight some key words as tailing a log file using a perl script; about my case: I want to search for a keyworrs just once and highligt all occurrence of them. I want just highlit the keywords but not the whole line but the problems are that perl just catches the first keyword in a line and skip checking for other occurrence. for example if a line like "Error: some exception happen, Unable to process" it just highlight the error and do not process the remain part of the line where it should hilight the word "exception" and "Unable"
2-How can I do some action if for exapmle at least 4 time "unable" message appear ( not just in one line but diffrent line)in below is how I use perl search and replace : Code: s/(?:(unable|exception|warning))/e[1;31$&.......

i am trying to find all 3 and 4-character length words in my file (which is huge and has alot of entries in it, a big fat wordlist!).My attempt with this regular expression (which I thought should work, found something on length search here: [URL]
cat sorted_noapostrophe.txt| grep '.{3,4}'
but it returns no results? Also to find any words starting with 'f' which are between 3 and 5 characters (inclusive) long, how can this be done?

I tried Suse five or six years ago and ran into an issue that was not comfortable to work with so I went back to windows. The problem was open spaces between words was not permitted with my music files. I have transferred all of my CDs and LPs to MP3 and have a tremendous number of them and the Suse of five years ago required I convert a title like Foggy Mountain Special.mp3 into something resembling Foggy_Mountain_Special.mp3
I don't care to convert literally a hundred thousand titles to fit the latter format. Does the current version of Suse allow the use of spaces between the words or is the 'no open space' convention still required?

I'm fairly new to Perl and regular expressions. I have a large collection of files with their file names in the following general format: string - another string with spaces (2004) [year].ext I would like to know how I could create a regex to separate out:
the first string
another string with spaces
year
extension
If you know of a better way of doing it without regular expressions, I would be happy to hear that way too.

I was wondering if you insert a variable into a regex in Perl, will the contents of the variable be expanded by the regex engine?

The perl script I wrote works fine if I print the result to screen
x0_amber.pl 1 1000 0 5
But whenever I want to output to a file with
x0_amber.pl 1 1000 0 5 > x0_out
it never really prints out to the file.
It worked earlier, but I was playing with my PATH lately, I don't know if it's related to that

I'm having a small issue with regex matching in Perl. I'm pretty certain it's a simple fix, but it all looks correct to me...
If I run the following:
Code:
It prints out all the lines containing a 'P', as one would expect. But when the regex is
Code:
I get zero lines printed. It seems to match only single-character patterns.
The file I'm reading is: (It has the same effect whether I leave it with Windows linebreaks or convert them to unix).
Code:

I have written a regular expression (tested in regexpal and regextester alpha something) with which I want to replace something like code...
but it only matches functions which occupy one line only, despite my tests showing multiple line matching in javascript testers online and using the m and s flags (which should make it multi line no?)

I have some lines of text and I want to detect words that meet some criteria with sed.
E.g. The line "tetris cat dog test cactus stereotype"
I want to detect the word that contains two (2) ore more t letters. That mean the words tetris, test and stereotype.
The following regex doesn't do the job because it can;t distinguish words very well.
I thinks I have ti incorporate something like [^ ] in the regex but I wasn't successful...

Can one of you point me towards a comprehensive print function tutorial in perl? I was under the impression that everything within quotes will get interpolated - but I am running into exceptions where it is not desirable to run some varaibles under quotes.
ordinal.pl
1 #!/usr/bin/perl
2 $idx = 1;
3 foreach $letter (a..z) {
4 print "Letter #",$idx++," is: $letter
";
5 #print "Letter # $idx++ is: $letter

I need to figure out if mythfrontend is non responsive. If the frontend was closed by accident, this code restarts it for me as a cron job.
#!/usr/bin/perl
use Env;
$ENV{DISPLAY}=':0';
my $result = `ps aux | grep front`;
[code]....
If I run the above code it works (mythfrontend restarts) however, there are times when the frontend becomes non-responsive and I'd like to detect a non-responsive state but I don't know how. Additionally, I don't have a keyboard on the mythfrontend, just the remote control.

This pretend to be a script for rename a lot of files automatically. So I put the list of files in an array named @lista. But, as you can see, at the end of the command I use a sed filter to print out a backslash for those files that have spaces in their names, so the path for those files could be rightly interpreted.
But there's no way I could print a backslash. It works well when I use the Perl's sed substitution s///, but I need every path in the array to be fixed.
I'd like to add that the bash command works perfectly well alone. I mean outside the Perl script.
This is de command line with the sed filter:
Code:
And this is what it brings:

I am tryng to get values BBA 204- BBA 324 from a log file.
this is my script:
zmore log.gz | perl -nle 'print for m/BBAs[2|3][0-9][0-4]/g' | sort -u | perl -ne 'print if /^BBAs204$/../^BBAs324$/'
the first perl one liner gives me everything from BBA 200 to BBA 394, and the second perl one liner cuts it down to BBA 204 to BBA 324
Is there a elegant regex that will allow me to skip the second perl one liner and just take out the BBA 204 - BBA 324

I have a Macbook Air that I want to print to a computer running Fedora or another running Ubuntu, where each has a connected printer. Both printers are shared. It seemed that, since all three computers run CUPS, you would think it was a no brainer to set up printing. Maybe my brain's too small. Would some one get me out of my misery? Where does one start? The Air's already set to "sharing printers".
