Programming :: Small Java Program To Manage 2 Apartments?

Feb 17, 2011

this is my first post and I would like to get some help from you , so what should be the answer for this question ?:::::::::::::the question::::::::::::::::THE UNIVERSITY APARTMENTSThe University Apartments provides apartment rental to university students at affordable rates, with optional facilities:Apartment Type A, 2 bedrooms and equiped with kitchen and laundry facilities. The monthly rental for the rooms in this apartment type is RM300.Apartment Type B, 3 bedrooms includes one master bedroom with attached bathroom but does not have kitchen and laundry facilities. The monthly rental for the rooms in this apartment type is RM200 and students staying in the master bedroom will be paying an additional 40%.

Each apartment may house a maximum of 3 students. Students are required to check out from the apartment unit when the current semester ends.Create an application to manage the university apartments rental:1. Register new student and assign apartment moduleRegister and assigns an apartment to the student for 140 days from the date of registration. The module should retrieve the date automatically from the system clock and calculates the expiry date for the apartment rental. Before an apartment is assigned, the system should allow the selection of the type of apartment (i.e. Type A or B), then check for the number of occupants in the apartment. If the apartment already housed 3 students, it should recommend another apartment unit that is still available. Upon registration, student should pay a RM100 for the utility charges, rental deposit for one month and the rental for the current month.

2. Update apartment status moduleWhen a student moves out from an apartment, the apartment status is updated.3. Reporting moduleGenerates a report of apartments with full occupancy and another report for apartments where rooms are still available. 4. Search module Enable the administrator to search for a student's apartment unit using the student id as the search key. The search result should produce the students information and the details of the apartment that the student is staying in.The application should be developed using object-oriented concepts using Student class and Apartment class, implementing the appropriate data fields and methods for the classes. Data may be stored in collections i.e

Debian Programming :: Memory Usage When Running Java Program

Jun 28, 2013

I have a java program that runs on Debian as a background processor. Yesterday the Java program stopped running. I looked at the memory usage, the system only had 5MB memory left, so my guess is that the java program ran out of memory to use.

However, after we restarted the java program, we could see that the free memory count started to go up. It kept going up from 5MB to over 400MB. The increase of memory happened slowly, when I measured it, I could see that with each minute passing by, there were a bit more memory added into the free memory pool, and meanwhile, the java background process was running.

I wonder why this would ever happen. It's as if our java program first brought the machine done because it consumed all the memories, then after restart, it starts to give back memories.

Programming :: Using Java Runtime - Program Which Simply Calculates The Load Average Of A Process

Feb 10, 2011

I'm new to the linux world and its been quit sometime since i've done any programming. However, I'm writing a program which simply calculates the load average of a process. In doing this I need to use the uptime command for linux in a java program. I've done a little bit of searching on the net and it mentions this is possiable by using java runtime command. Unfortunatly though I have yet to find a working example of this. I've tried just simply reading the /proc/uptime file but I have no clue how to format the 2 numbers in seconds to make it the same as if you just typed in uptime in the linux command prompt.

Programming :: Java Servlets: Setup The Server Side Configuration On Fedora Web Server?

Jan 4, 2010

If you hadn't guessed it from my last 3000(ish) java-related posts, I'm a Java n00b writing a Java Applet for a work project. I got to the part was I was about to write the applet code that would send HTTP requests to my CGI scripts. But I read some paragraphs in a book praising Java servlets as better that CGI because they are easier to use and give much better performance server side. My server load isn't very big, though, and I was wondering if it would be worth taking the time to learn about Java servlets and how to set up the server side configuration on my Fedora web server.

Networking :: Permission / Group After Sshing Into Box

Nov 4, 2010

I've got a problem with groups on linux (slackware). I'm trying to ssh from one computer into another to do some work, but I'm running into permission issues.

If I do the work locally as a user
If I do the work with ssh as root
If I do the work with ssh as a user ;(

Both computers are mine. (By locally, I mean physically sitting by that computer logging in the normal way.) When I log in locally as a regular user I'm a member of the following groups: 'users floppy audio video cdrom' But when I ssh into the same computer, being the same user, I'm only a member of the group: 'users'

Q1. What gives? Where/How can I change this?

Q2. Also, where do linux/slackware store the group information? According to /etc/group I'm only member of 'users'. Where does it keep the info that I belong to 'users floppy audio video cdrom'?

Programming :: Timings Of A Program That Uses 1-8 Threads On A Server That Has 4 D?

Jul 25, 2010

I am runig a program on a server at my university that has 4 Dual-Core AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 2210 HE and the O.S. is Linux version 2.6.27.25-78.2.56.fc9.x86_64. My program implements Conways Game of Life and it runs using pthreads and openmp. I timed the parrallel part of the program using the getimeofday() function using 1-8 threads. But the timings don't seem right. I get the biggest time using 1 thread(as expected), then the time gets smaller. But the smallest time i get is when i use 4 threads.

Here is an example when i use an array 1000x1000.

Using 1 thread~9,62 sec, Using 2 Threads~4,73 sec, Using 3 ~ 3.64 sec, Using 4~2.99 sec, Using 5 ~4,19 sec, Using 6~3.84, Using 7~3.34, Using 8~3.12.The above timings are when i use pthreads. When i use openmp the timing are smaller but follow the same pattern.I expected that the time would decrease from 1-8 because of the 4 Dual core cpus? I thought that because there are 4 cpus with 2 cores each, 8 threads could run at the same time. Does it have to do with the operating system that the server runs?

Also i tested the same programs on another server that has 7 Dual-Core AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 8214 and runs Linux version 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5. There the timings i get are what i expected. The timings get smaller starting from 1(the biggest) to 8(smallest excecution time). The program implements the Game of Life correct, both using pthreads and openmp, i just cant figure out why the timings are like the example i posted. So in conclusion, my questions are:

1) The number of threads that can run at the same time on a system depends by the cores of the cpus?it depends only by the cpus although each cpu has more than one cores? It depends by all the previous and the Operating System?

2) Does it have to do with the way i divide the 1000x1000 array to the number of threads? But if i did then the openmp code wouldn't give the same pattern of timings?

3)What is the reason i might get such timmings?

Software :: Trying To Run Java Program ?

Mar 25, 2011

I have a problem starting a java program.

I installed and am trying to run Antelope an ant file editor. When I try to start antelope I get the trace-back listed below.

When I first tried to start Antelope it asked me where ant/lib was located. I pointed it to /usr/share/ant/lib which has 3 jar files named ant.jar ant-bootstrap.jar and ant-launcher.jar.

I am running in Fedora14. With java version "1.6.0_20"

OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.9.7) (fedora-52.1.9.7.fc14-i386)

OpenJDK Client VM (build 19.0-b09, mixed mode) and javac 1.6.0_20

When I try to start it I get

Code:

I have tried it 2 ways, one with the environment variable ANT_HOME set to /use/share/ant/lib - which has some 3 jar files - and also to /home/knox/apache-ant-1.8.2/lib which has about 25 jar files. Same error message both ways.
