Programming :: Weird Recv() Buffer Back To Front??

Sep 20, 2010

I have been developing some code which I have been testing an another i386 system. However I have been getting some weird data received on a socket I am communicating with some 3rd party hardware, I have opened a socket to read data on the hardware's telnet port. The data being read is as expected and my code appears to function correctly.

However I have now began testing the code on a target platform, this platform is of a better spec than my development system. When I read data from the socket using recv(), all the expected data has not been read.A chunk of data from the beginning is missing and a portion of data that would be at the end is now at the beginning of the buffer. I'll try and illustrate this below.

Programming :: Script Wich Will Act As And Interactive Front End To An Emailer?

Code:-ask the user which files they want to sent (files not needed to be in the same directore-tar all the files together-Gzip the tarfile-Uuencode the gsipped file (so more email programs can use it)-ask user who to send email to, possibly more than one person-I want it to be clear and easy to use and display what it is doing while an action is taken place.I have no clue where to begin. I think perl would be the best option, but I am not sure, how would I make this able to run with am email program and I am unaware how to tar and gzip files or Uuencode the gsipped files.

General :: Graphical Front End For Xrandr That Saves Settings On Reboot?

Nov 2, 2009

Is there a graphical front end for xrandr that also allows you to save your setup so that it automatically sets up the X configuration at boot time thereby simplifying this process. For example, at the moment if i want to use an external monitor on my laptop i have to manually set it up after booting as it defaults to the laptop resolution which is not a big deal but would still be nice to have this happen automatically. I tried putting a script into rc.local to do this but didnt work.I have tried programs such as lxrandr, grandr, arandr which are all good but dont allow you to save your choices so that they are automatically applied at the next boot of the X system.

Programming :: Graphical Dialog From Bash Without Grabbing Focus

Jun 28, 2009

I want to display an un-intrusive graphical dialog to notify the workstation user that a bash script has finished running. It should be "top level", so visible to the user when it appears but should not grab focus, so the user can continue working in the current window and dismiss the notification when convenient. Researching gdialog, xdialog, xmessage and zenity it seems none of them can do this; they all grab focus.

Programming :: Use Glade With C/python To Create A Graphical User Interface

I am working with ubuntu (linux) and have to create a graphical user interface. The GUI is a 2-D plot that have to plot a point. The point ( x and y co-ordinates) are not hardcoded, and are coming from another file (another piece of code written in c / python). I was thinking to use Glade with c/python to create this. But, I am not sure how to start with this.

Fedora :: "yum-plugin-remove-with-leaves" - Doesn't Work With Graphical Front Ends

Sep 19, 2010

I'm trying to switch from debian to fedora (13) and I'm stuck at getting yum to remove leave dependencies.

So far I've installed "yum-plugin-remove-with-leaves" and I'm able to remove leave dependencies if I invoke yum with the "--remove-leaves" argument from command line.

But this doesn't work with graphical front ends and I want to remove unused leave dependencies every time if I remove a package not just if I remember to invoke yum with the "--remove-leaves" argument.

Later on I discovered an option in "/etc/yum/pluginconf.d/remove-with-leaves.conf" named "remove_always = 1" and uncommented it. But yum doesn't seem to care. I still need to add the "--remove-leaves" argument otherwise yum isn't going to remove the leave dependencies.

How to configure yum to handle dependencies the way I used to know from apt under debian? Install a package with a graphical front end and dependencies get pulled in as needed. Uninstall a package later on and dependencies installed in the first place are removed as well if not needed by anything installed in between.

Programming :: Detaching A (graphical)process Invoked Without "&" From Terminal?

Jun 6, 2010

If I run a graphical(or any process) process like music player "exaile" from terminal ,Is there a way without using "nohup" or "screen"(terminal multiplexer) to detach "exaile " from the terminal when ran without appending "&" on to exaile(like "exaile &"). If I press CTRL-Z to stop ,some programs errs out , "watch dog time out" and "aborts" the process.

The problem is bg,disown or jobs etc does not list the process if I ran from another terminal. I want to know ways by Which I can detach a graphical/non-graphical process from a terminal as well as to re-attach to the terminal.

Programming :: 3D Programming - Difference Between JOGL And C++ OpenGL Programming?

Aug 27, 2010

I am interested in learning 3D programming. The thing is, I would hate to put too much effort to learn something that doesn't have future and is dying. My favorite language at the time is Java. My goal is professional programming.

So I have several questions:
1. Should I learn JOGL or start learning C++ and do C++ openGL programming?
2. Is there a big difference between JOGL and C++ openGL programming?
3. Is it worth to learn openGL? Does it have a future?
4. Is it a big difference between openGL and directX coding?
5. If choosing Java, then JOGL or LWJGL?

Why and what is the main difference between them?

Programming :: Unix Programming - Single Thread Server Can Support Exactly 2 Clients At Once

Sep 28, 2010

A simple TCP based chat server could allow users to use any TCP client (telnet, for example) to communicate with each other. For this question you should consider a single process, single thread server that can support exactly 2 clients at once, the server simply forwards whatever is sent from one client to the other (in both directions). Your server must not insist on any specific ordering of messages as soon as something is sent from one client it is immediately forwarded to the other client. As soon as either client terminates the connection the server can exit

Programming :: Choice Of Programming Solutions For Collated Document Repository?

Feb 18, 2011

We have documents on multiple workstations and want to collate them into a single repository to provide text search and download. So far we have implemented rsync to copy files from each workstation under a directory for each workstation on a server (incidentally providing a backup) and have set up text search using Xapian with Omega; users access it via a web browser. Still to do is to set up a system to copy files from each workstation's area on the server to the repository.

Many files are duplicated. In these cases we want to preserve the names but keep a single copy of the file;hard links can be used for that. For each file to be copied from a workstation's area into the collated area we need to check whether it is a duplicate (file size and, if same, MD5 sum) and if so, create a hard link to the original rather than create a copy.A system to detect and replace duplicates in the collated area has been written using ruby and postgresql but the developer cannot commit to continuing this work. It does mean we have a postgresql database populated with "fingerprints" of files in the collated area.My first priority is to get the system working; in the longer term whatever is developed must be maintainable; I do not yet know which language skills are available locally.

I am fluent in bash and competent with awk. Ruby looks nice but I have started to learn python and do think it prudent to learn both at the same time. Python's postgresql capabilities are not settled but may be fine for the simple usage required. What to do? A bash solution would run very slowly but could be developed quickly. Language knowledge aside, I have found it difficult to install ruby on the server (CentOS 5.5;installed rvm but "gem" still not installed; seems a very complex system with its own package management).

And post the fruits of my attempts at my blog (shameless plug) aswell as opening up my svn repository when I'm done. (altho i need to ask in another thread about svn permissions....)To my shame i havent ever touched C#, JavaScript, Ruby or Python, so all in all its going to be very interesting how much i screw up.Anyone have any additional ideas, or languages I'm missing or such? I was considering TCL or Haskell or Erlang at a strech, but i dont know how useful these three would be.
