I successfully downloaded and subsequently installed fedora-12-i386-DVD.iso.I successfully installed an nVidia driver for my GeForce 7600GS.I have 3D and Compiz Fusion up and running on my system.So I should be blissfully enjoying one of the best OS made available to earthlings today .If Leigh's otherwise excellent nVidia Driver Guides worked for me with F11, they did not with F12.What is more, I seem to be - unless I am mistaken - the only one with the problem I am going to describe (the story of my life, BTW?)
My kernel is 2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686.PAE (don't ask me why. This is the kernel which installed with my DVD!) After installing the required drivers, rpm -qa |grep nvidia gives me What should I do when the drivers become available in RPMfusion - nonfree? Disinstall the current nonfree-testupdates drivers and reinstall the nonfree ones?Why do I seem the only one with this problem, which makes me very despondent?Did I do something wrong in the install (both the DVD install and Leigh's procedure although I dutifully followed the four steps he outlines).
I have a program what creates files with a certain user and group as owner. How do I make files created by this program belong to a group I specify myself (I know I can chown and chgrp and chmod but I want the files to have a certain group from the beginning). Also I like to be able to specify permissions for these files.
Btw. it's not my own program so cant change the source code of the program to solve my problem.
I have a system with 1 GB RAM. I'm running KDE 4. I created a tab to look that the Physical Memory in the System Monitor program, which I assume appears to look at the same stats that "top" looks at. In that Physical Memory tab I have 3 tables: Used Memory, Free Memory, and Application Memory.The Used Memory table shows that the system is using .94 of .98 GiBytes. The Free Memory table shows that the system has .5 GiBytes of RAM free.
However the Application Memory shows that only 339 M-Bytes of RAM is being used.Note that "top" shows the same info.So where is the other .6 GiBytes of RAM that the Used Memory table shows as being used?If I look at the process table which is supposed to encompass all of the processes running, including the ones for the OS, then it appears to add up to the 339 M-Bytes being used in the Application Memory table. Is the rest of the memory being held in reserve by the OS to be used as needed? If so, then why when another application is opened the Free Memory goes down instead of staying constant?I also noticed this memory "black hole" when I was running 11.0 on a system with 4 GB of RAM. The OS appeared to "take up" a large chunk of memory that was NOT being used by any applications and making it "disappear" - meaning that the applications were using about 1.3 GiBytes of RAM and Free Memory was showing only .7 GiBytes instead of the over 2 GB of RAM that should be free.
I will have to code this. However I am lacking of time since I have too much to do. make a short code bash/dash to prompt the country with Zenity, then, get the PLS or m3u url and prompt with another zenity which radio to play. http://www.listenlive.eu/index.html
My code to get url's radio country.htm is:
Code:
Kernel 2.6.21.5, GNU (Slackware 12.0).
Bash 3.1.17.
I want to search an entire subtree of /, in the file system, for all files, with extension html, created on the hard disk. In addition, these have to be the last five created. I think I could split the problem into two parts: (a) Forget about the last condition. Then this is a job for the find command. (b) Sort the output of find using the date as the key, then use 'head' to print the desired output. But even two such simple steps are enough to justify the writing of a shell script. And here lies my weakness.
My script writing knowledge is rudimentary. What's the final purpose? Well, I lately saved four or five LQ pages onto disk containing information I consider valuable to me. But I don't exactly remember where on the disk. Then: either the problem posed is really of a very simple nature or it is not, in the latter case a script being mandatory. One of the algorithm drawbacks (the one described above) is that find may be running a great deal of time. My machine resources (RAM and CPU speed are low) are scarce and there possible are a large number of HTML files on the disk.
I have created a file with a pre-defined size as follows:
Code:
#define FILEPATH "testfile"
#define FILESIZE 16
[code]...
I have list of programs which I have created during the past few days, all the programs are attached in txt files, and if anyone can do favor, and double check if they work, and what changes I can make to make it look different, or to improve it.

I'm convinced this can be done much nicer with 'awk' and printf, but somehow awk makes me dazzle..
My program need to monitor the foler to know which file under the folder is being opened/created for writing. I add the folder into watch list using inotify_add_watch, when a file -- say 'AA' -- is created, I'll get the event through read api call. But the inotify_event only have file name 'AA' and a event mask. these parameters can't help me to know how the 'AA' is created/openned. So I have to scan the /proc folder to get to know how is 'AA' created/openned. I don't think this is a efficient way, especially if there are lots of files are openned/created in a short time span.

By allowing for the red, green, blue, and alpha values to be fine-tuned, the user can control how transparent or opaque their desktop is. And how is this possible? C++ instead of C. How do you guys think of being able to customize RGBA?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have an awk program that finds all files of a specific filename and deletes them from selected subdirectories. There is logic in the awk to avoid certain subdirectories, and this is initialized via a parameter in the beginning statement of the awk. The parameter should have all of the subdirectory names at the top level. This varies from time to time, so I cannot hard-code the value.I'm having a problem initializing the awk parameter using sed. I'm setting a variable (named subdir) using an "ls" command piped to "xargs". I'm then trying to substitute that value into the awk using the sed command.

Only the new created file must be transffered or copied to the other folder. The old ones remains.I urgently need this for production deployment.
View 8 Replies View RelatedOk so Basically i have 2 questions
1. i know how to create a file with c++ using but is there a way to save it to a specific location on your computer with windows and linux
Code:
2. i need to know how to run/execute/open a file in a c++ program im using and its not working
Code:
Using C++, I want to process sub-folders on my home folder sequentially each with a special naming format and containing some binary files in it:
Code:
1/
2/
3/
4/
5/
6/
...
Give above folders, I will process files in 1/ at first, 2/ at second, 3/ at third, and so on.
For some n/ folder, if I realize that n/ actually does not exist in local file system, I do not want to wait for it. Hence I will keep processing (n+1)/ folder, and so on.
However, when processing some (n+m)/ folder, previously not processed n/ folder may have been created on local file system. In this case, I do not want to miss processing it, but somehow detect its creation and process it. After processing n/ folder, I want to continue from (n+m+1)/.
im trying to build a simple program for my C programming class, this is the source code
#include <stdio.h>
int main()
{
int length, width, length, height, area, perimeter;
perimeter = width + length + height;
area = width * length + heigth;
[Code]...
i dont see any error (you might)but every time i run it it runs but after it asks me to input for the width i do it but it doesn't take me to the length, it just stays blank until i input another value in the same place for the width, it asks me for 4 inputs in total i don;t know why, and after i run it different times it gives me different values for the perimeter and are. how can I fix this?
I'm a little bit confused with partitioning the filesystem in Linux. the difference between creating the file system with fdisk and mkfs (when formatting the disk). I can't clearly tell my problem, so please look at this picture:
View 2 Replies View RelatedI found some interesting behavior when discussing the pow function from Math.h with someone. I am well aware of the need to compile with the -lm flag, but to my surprise this actually isn't necessary if the arguments to the pow function are literals. For example, this program compiles in gcc without using -lm:
Code:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <math.h>
int main()
[code]....
If I try to change the call to any of these:
Code:
double bCubed = pow(2.0, e);
Code:
double bCubed = pow(b, 3.0);
Code:
double bCubed = pow(b, e);
Then the -lm option is required or else it can't compile. So does anyone know why it's necessary to use -lm when the argument(s) is/are variable(s) but it works fine if both arguments are literal values? As a side note, any of the above compile with g++ however. Also, if it helps, this is the version of gcc I'm using:
gcc (GCC) 4.1.2 20080704 (Red Hat 4.1.2-44)
This doesn't happen on my Mac however that is running: i686-apple-darwin9-gcc-4.0.1 (GCC) 4.0.1 (Apple Inc. build 5484)

I did not know where to start, so started off with a simple chat program using TCP and thought of making the modifications to it later on. But I do have a prob even i running that!
Am not getting the messages in a synchronized manner. The prog is running fine, but the messages that i type from the server are not reaching the client at all, and at times some garbage values are getting printed(When the strcmp()fn returns 1, "connection terminated" gets printed timely in both the sides. this is the oly situation where i do not get garbage values.) am using VC++ 6.0 here.I have been breaking my head for the past 3-4 days for this simple issue. any response to this would be of great help.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm new to programming under linux (not new to programming). Before that I have written c++ codes in Visual Studio under windows for some years. I read some tutorials and learned editing codes with vim and compile codes with g++ or make tool. And I tried gdb.
But I think compared to my coding experience in Visual Studio, these steps are very ineffective. With VS, after I wrote codes, I just press ctrl+f7 to compile and ctrl+f5 to run the codes. If I want to debug, press f5, and I can see every variable in a 'watch' window.
Under linux, after I write codes, I need to quit vim, type make to compile. If I have some mistakes, I have to remember the line numbers and re-open vim to check the errors. And I think debugging with gdb is so hard.
I think as a newbie to programming under linux, maybe I haven't find the right tools. Or programming under linux is just so hard so a programmer who can overcame these could be strong enough to do programming without some IDE tools?
