Programming :: C - One Value In The Matrix Drops To Zero When Passed In As Pointer?

This is one of the strangest problems I've run into while programming. Maybe there's just something wrong with my version of gcc or something.
The main problem comes at this point in the code:

I have been googling trying to fix this ... basicly I have a (int **) variable, and when I try to pass a (int) value to a specific position, I have seg.fault.Resuming what I have is:

I am writing a game in C with SDL. I can successfully display one image on the screen and animate it. However, I am having a lot of issues getting the background to display using the same method. I was asking for help on SDL related forums, but I determined that the issue is not SDL related, and it is actually a pointer issue. However, I can't find where I'm going wrong.

I have a script that i want to add some functionality to, but im new to python. Right now it runs command line as ./script https://server user passwd verbose , which returns alot of informtion. I would like it to be able to only return information for a particular function when a flag is passed. exp: ./script https://server user passwd verbose -m (for memory only)
Under the ClassesToCheck section are the different things that can be retrieved. I would like that when you run the script as ./script https://server user passwd verbose -m, it returns only the 'Memory' info. -c would be for 'CPU', etc... Also, i would like the OK at the end of the script to be the first line that is return in the output instead of the last.

I'm writing a command-line flash card program in Python. I've tried many existing applications, but none fit my specialized needs.
All of the words I'd like to study are manually added to a text file (study.txt). Each time the software is loaded, it checks for new words in that file and also compares them to a dictionary (a tab-separated file, dictionary.txt), and adds that to a matrix. The flash cards are thus automatically generated from study.txt and dictionary.txt.
Now, the software must manage lots of information about each word I'd like to study and add new information made while interacting with the program (such as when that word should be studied next).
That seems easy to put into a matrix. But what is the best way to put that information in a place where I can pull it back when I run the software tomorrow? Do I need to save the matrix to a CSV file, then convert the CSV file back to a matrix the next time the application is run?

I have a 10x2 matrix, I create said matrix and fill it one column with zeros and the other with ones, now when I print the matrix I get this:
column 1:
0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,1,1
column 2:
1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1
The first two rows of the second column are being replaced into the last two rows of the first column, now I even checked in visual studio and it works fine there. A friend tried my code and he gets it even worse:
column 1:
0,0,0,0,1,1,1,1,1,1
column 2:
1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1
As far as I've seen it must be a problem with GCC, unfortunately I need to have this up and running in GCC no matter what.

I hope someone can help me with this. I need to call the same thread multiple times, but only run one thread at a time. So what I do is create the thread which runs then drops out. Run the main loop and after some time pthread_create the same thread again. So in pseudo code

I always presumed if I run a thread and it reaches with a pthread_exit, then the thread was destroyed? However I've found that after I've created the thread several 100 times the programme crashes? So can anyone advise how I call the same thread over and over?

In the following code, I am trying to define a matrix in CCS (which is equivalent to CSR for a symmetric matrix, right ?) in ARPACK++.

I have checked the values of ia and ja by running intel MKl on the matrix to find the CSR (again, CSR=CCS for symmetric matrix, right ?--I am asking this because ARPACK++ uses CCS, not CSR), and the values are the same. Is this some problem of 0 and 1 indexing ? Does ARPACK++ use 1 indexing?

sed -n 8p file.txt
returns the 8th line to the StdOut.
If I assign the value to the variable line = $(sed -n 8p file.txt)
and now print it out with echo
echo $line
the line would be printed.
But what if the file has only 4 lines. What value would be assigned to the variable line?
I want to know that because I want to only print it if the value is "something", that is not null.
In Java for example I would do it like this...
String line = "";
line = reader.readLine(); // or anything else..
if(line!=null){
System.out.println(line);
}
How would I check if the value is not "null"(I don't know if bash knows null)

I'm getting some information about C language and this session of a C book (follow the above link) is using a bad example for me. When I'm trying this example of function returning a pointer, my compiler is stating a warning that I return a pointer to a local variable. I realized that it is error prone after all this variable may be override before the function has done his execution. And the author is fooling me saying that this example is "perfectly safe". I'm wrong? There is something that I don't got yet? Sorry but this site is preventing me to post the link of book cause I'm a newbie, so a need the hack it. Just strip out the question signs:
