XAMPP: Couldn't start MySQL! I have Ubuntu 11.4. After downloading XAMPP, I went to my Downloads. I then went to the Folder (xampp-linux-1.7.4.tar.gz) and right clicked on it. The options window opened, and I selected "Extract Here"! after doing so a Folder called lampp appeared. The next step I did was open my Terminal and typed ( sudo nautilus / ). I pressed Enter and a window with a bunch Folders opened up. I selected, and opened the opt Folder. I then dragged the lampp Folder to the opt Folder.
The lampp Folder is now in the opt Folder. I right clicked on the lampp Folder and selected Properties, and then the Permissions tap. I set all 3 Folder access: -to- Create delete files and all 3 File access: -to- Read and write. I checked Allow executing file as program, and Apply Permissions to Enclosed Files button, then closed. I went back to Terminal and typed (sudo /opt/lampp/lampp start) and pressed Enter. Everything is working fine execpt MySQL!
Starting XAMPP for Linux 1.7.4... XAMPP: Starting Apache with SSL (and PHP5)... XAMPP: Starting MySQL... XAMPP: Couldn't start MySQL! XAMPP: Starting ProFTPD... XAMPP for Linux started.
I don't know if it makes any difference but I do have Netbeans IDE 7.0 php installed and I've only worked on html and CSS on it.
I thought that the problem is in the phpMyAdmin not in the mysql. But now i think different. It seems that the problem is right in the mysql. I think that there was no root user, when mysql was freshly installed. Unfortunately i did everything i can find on internet (some tutorials) but they don`t helped me at all, maybe i fu**ed up the mysql service. So i reinstalled it, and when i want to start it there is no file mysql.sock and i get the following:
linux-nepg:~ # service mysql restart Restarting service MySQL Shutting down service MySQL done Starting service MySQL warning: /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock didn't appear within 30 seconds
I'm using ubuntu 9.10 64bit and I'want to configure php mysql and lampp. Also the package mysql-ser is already installed, so if I install MYSQL GUI tools(Administrator, query browser..) from my synaptic package manager will it detect the mysql already installed ? Also tried configuring lampp by extracting it in my /opt directory and i started the server, which MySQL ll it detect the one which was previously installed otr the oin that in gui tools ?
Also think the current ubuntu repository does't have latest build of mysql GUI tools, so how the above mentioned things ll change if I try to download the individual package.
Oveall what I want is to configure Mysql GUI tools, Mysql workbench, xampp and php(For this I'm using Bluefish and Komposer). Please help me out so that I can leave windows for my Web-projects.
I am struck with this problem since yesterday, Everything was working fine until i got a sudden error saying[Warning]: PDO::__construct() [pdo.--construct]: [2002] No such file or directory (trying to connect via unix:///opt/lampp/var/mysql/mysql.sock) (Database/class.SWIFT_Database.php:330)Then i went into server and restarted server. it started saying
/opt/lampp/lampp restart Stopping XAMPP for Linux 1.7.4... XAMPP: Stopping Apache with SSL...
I have been using wamp on an xp box and now have set up ubuntu with the localhost server seeming to be going okay.
As this is just a desktop graphical test server with no real public hosting, I was hoping to find a control panel like in wamp where one can stop/start php, apache, mysql, phpmyadmin and see logs etc.
i want to Xampp run and start all time when i start pc. i don know correct command for use crontab when i want to use it i must delete ># m h dom mon dow commandor not ?
I have recently set up my web server using the LAMPP package for Ubuntu. Now I'm running Ubuntu Server 10 so my machine boots into the console and not gdm. Also I have my machine autologin as root so I can simply turn my server on and not mess around with logins. Now I created a simple shellscript for starting lampp and then I put it into etc/init.d/, chmod -x file.sh to give it executable permissions, then I update-rc.d file.sh defaults but nothing happens on startup. It simple takes me to the console and nothing more happens. I have to manually start lampp on every bootup.
i am using putty to connect to my server and wanted to restart mysql server. searched the internet and found thatcommand is /etc/init.d/mysqld start or stopbut it did not worked.then tried /etc/init.d/mysql stop or startthis also did not worked.

Trying to start mysql in YaST > system services (runlevel) > Expert mode gives following message /etc/init.d/mysql start returned 1 (unspecified error):
Through YaST's System Services I configured an application to start on boot. However, the application (mediatomb) is using mysql, so it should not be started before mysql. It is however, which means mediatomb fails to start.
How can I make sure mysql is started before mediatomb?
I think this goes here, but I'm not sure. I decided that XAMPP had been troublesome enough. MySQL never worked. So I decided to instal the LAMP stack offered by YaST. I went about installing it thinking that it would all work. But it seems that I was wrong. So I try to start mysql, and here's what I get:
Code: the-matrix:~ # mysql start ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) or Code: the-matrix:~ # rcmysql start Starting service MySQL warning: /var/mysql/mysql.sock didn't appear within 30 seconds chmod: cannot access `/var/run/mysql/mysqld.pid': No such file or directory
I have a mysql database and i use it with apache for my webpages. And I guess it dosen't start when the computer starts so I have to manually start it with "sudo /etc/init.d/mysql start" This returns fail so i went to '/var/run/mysqld/' and the folder was empty. I don't know if this is the problem or not. How can I fix this?
I am getting the following error when starting mysql using 'sudo /etc/init.d/mysql start':
Mar 15 16:33:56 MoodFishDev /etc/init.d/mysql[18317]: 0 processes alive and '/usr/bin/mysqladmin --defaults-file=/etc/mysql/debian.cnf ping' resulted in Mar 15 16:33:56 MoodFishDev /etc/init.d/mysql[18317]: ^G/usr/bin/mysqladmin: connect to
I am trying to get mysql to start at boot without any success.
The mysqld scripts works fine when run from the command line, but it does not work when i use the links created by chkconfig. I checked the boot.log and found that mysql starts but then it stops or gets shutdown. This is the log message:
Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /data/mysql [ OK ] Starting cups: [ OK ] STOPPING server from pid file /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid starting DenyHosts: /usr/bin/denyhosts.py --daemon --config=/usr/share/denyho sts/denyhosts.cfg 090727 04:35:47 mysqld ended
I've downloaded and installed MySQL-client-5.1.53-1.glibc23.x86_64.rpm. I'm rather new to linux so it might be I haven't started the server. Unfortunately I have no idea which file is responsible for that. It is also possible that my head isn't functioning correctly ( if at all ).
Error I receive is:
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)
I installed MySQL 5 on Fedora Core 13 guest on Win Vista host. After I ran the bash script to install it: Code: groupadd mysql useradd -g mysql tar -xvf mysql-5.1.48.tar.gz cd mysql-5.1.48 CFLAGS="-O3" CXX=gcc CXXFLAGS="-O3 -felide-constructors -fno-exceptions -fno-rtti" ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/mysql --with-mysql-ldflags=all-static --with-charset=utf8 make test make
I ran the mysql but I received the error 2002 so I changed the my.cnf with medium.cnf, pointed in the file the path to the mysql.sock file and tried changing the owner of mysql.sock to the user mysql. It didn't work so in the end I gave 777 permissions (755 didn't work either). Now the error reporting when starting mysql is Code: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (111).
I have had tons of issues with the linux today. Now when I try and start mysql it just fails. the syslog says:
May 3 16:19:40 tp-inventory /etc/init.d/mysql[7783]: 0 processes alive and '/usr/bin/mysqladmin --defaults-file=/etc/mysql/debian.cnf ping' resulted in May 3 16:19:40 tp-inventory /etc/init.d/mysql[7783]: ^G/usr/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
I installed MySQL and I want the service to (always) start. When I google I always find the same answer; Goto System > Administration > Services. But I don have it. Administration for me goes from 'Printing' to 'Software Sources', so there's no 'Services'...
Also should I be able to start it from a shell, but I also can find that. (I have no /etc/rc.d/-directory and my /etc/init.d/-directory han no 'mysql'). I just started using Linux a few days ago (I only used MaxOsX and Windows before).
I cant start mysql of my server after the update. my operating system is centos. I get this error. MySQL Daemon failed to start. Starting MySQL: [FAILED]
I have setup the Red Hat system and installed MySQL through the Add / Remove Program. I have RHEL 5.4.
When MySQL is being started manually it is being started as root. However, when MySQL is being started using the services command it is started as the user MySQL and it doesn't work.
How can I start MySQL service as root? Or is there another way to fix that issue.
Let me know if you need more information (giving details on how to get it would be nice too).
