I was wondering if there is a good program for drawing charts of fx programs. Flow charts, Gannt charts and such.I'm sure I can get openoffice to do it, but somehow I'm not comfortable with drawing anything in that program. I don't really know why. There is a nice program for it in the OpenSuse 11.2 with gnome, but I run KDE4. Is there a good recommendable program for this under KDE4?

i'm converting from w7 and before doing so made up a list of functions i wanted to be capable of doing in opensuse.i have most of them complete but saved the ones that gave me some problems or simply perplexed me until last.i managed to figure out ps3 media server, but still need to know how to automount my external usb drive upon boot.i have my vnc needs met with x11vnc and no probs there.
but what i'm not sure how to do is to synchronize my files between my three computers as well as how to backup my files to an offsite file service (perhaps datastorageunit). i've considered just using dropbox, which from what i've read will backup to offsite ( i used mozy on w7) as well as sync my files across my lan (goodsync handled my syncing). however, i really dont want to pay $10/mo. for 50gb of storage with dropbox when datastorageunit is only $3/mo for 100gb. datastorage unit says that rsync can be used however, even with the gui (grsync) installed i still couldn't make much head way. id rather not take the lazy/pricier way out with dropbox, but instead learn how to use grsync.
I'm on F12 and looking for a CAD program that would allow me to design simple 2 dimensional scale drawings, that I can hand over to somebody else to follow my plans and make something from the plan. Can anyone recommend a suitable package that would allow me to do that?

Looking for a recommendation on database development software. I tried Openoffice Database. The program crashes frequently when establishing relationships. If the data types of the relationship disagree, the program crashes. Also, the screen for establishing relationships is too small. I will probably need about 40 tables, and the Openoffice relationship map can realistically handle only about 12.
Apparently Access is up to the task of the development. Ultimately, I want to convert the developed database into a LAMP Web application. Also, I'm thinking of jobbing out much of the development. Is their an equivalent Linux-based solution, or should I hold my nose and go ahead with Access and Windows?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to do some very simple video editing but I'm having trouble finding a software solution that works for what I'm looking to do.I've got a bunch of movies that are split into two files (in order for both to fit on a CD-R, back when that was relevant). I'd like to just combine them into one file. Trouble is, the file-type is usually avi and I've had trouble finding an application that will read and properly import an avi file.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a HIS HD 4670 IceQ card but can't get it to work in openSUSE 11.2 Under Windows the card works fine, so I assume there is no hardware problem. I tried this card in two computers with different mainboards, but it does not work. Several times I reinstalled openSUSE completely from scratch (tried both 32bit and 64bit versions) but no luck. The problem: Right after the installation it uses the radeonhd driver. This basically works, but without 3D (no Tuxracer...) and even 2D is slow (dragging around windows on the desktop is slow, page scrolling in firefox also).
Then I tried to install the ati proprietary driver, both from rpm (the rpm's from the "official" ati repository have a checksum error, as already mentioned in another thread!), and by downloading the driver from AMD and running the install script. The install script seems to work successfully. The kernel module is compiled and loaded. "aticonfig --initial" makes a rudimentary xorg.conf. But then, when starting X, it does not work:
- on one of the 2 tested systems, even kdm does not start, the screen simply stays black with a frozen cursor top left, even CTRL+ALT+backspace doesn't do anything - on the other system, kdm starts and shows the login screen, but when trying to start KDE kwin crashes, and the windows have no title bar (when I googled for this symptome I found lots of people also having this problem...) - trying to configure the system using sax2 didn't help, even sax2 doesn't display properly I have now spent 4 days trying to get this to work and now I'm really tired of those buggy graphics drivers, be it proprietary or open source...
Can anyone recommend me a graphics card that is approximately as powerful as the radeon 4670 (I bought this card because it is said to be the most economical card (both in price and energy consumption) that allows to play Anno 1404 reasonably well on windows), but is known to work in openSUSE 11.2, even in 3D mode (tuxracer...)?

I wrote a script which analysis apache logs. This script generates a tab separated data file. There is two columns in the data. The first column is a file name accessed from remote. The second column shows how many times a file access.

Because there is some steps to do for a simple chart drawing. If there is a command line tool, then I can write a script that drawing a chart when the data file is updated.

Is anyone aware of a detailed "flow chart" -- arrows and decision diamonds, etc -- that describes the file access and permissions processing? I would love to see that diagram. Years ago on a platform far away (Digitial VAX/VMS) their manuals had such a flow chart that covered not only the user-group-owner and read-write-execute permissions decision making but also include "access control list" processing at a superficial level. If someone has access to the VAX/VMS flow chart, that might be a start toward sorting what linux does.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to run a java app from a stock chart service called ThinkorSwim. I've tried it in NetrunnerOS2, Ubuntu 10.4 and Ubuntu 10.10. All of them result in the same java error.:I'm running Sun Java 6 update 22 on all these OSs.The install seemed to go OK, and I get the splash screen when it starts up and I get a "loading desktop" type of message then it throws that error. I've googled for 2 days and nothing I find is dealing with this error.

I want it to be a pdf file, so I try opening it with open office drawing, but it keeps opening it with the word processor instead. The word processor starts the file if I do a right-click 'open with' on the file on my desktop, and even if I use open from the file menu in drawing itself. I'm wondering what to do to get drawing to open this file. Is it that .xcf is not supported by drawing?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI had a dual monitor setup going for a while, then one monitor broke, and I dropped back down to one. In some ways, the computer seems to have noticed this. I have an NVIDIA card and the NVIDIA drivers, and in NVIDIA X Server Settings it shows only one display. I had it configured in the Xinerama fashion, two continuous desktops side by side.
However, my desktop is still drawn as though there are two monitors, the result being that I can only see half. This is easily apparent when I zoom out to the desktop cube. It wouldn't be much of a serious problem, except for some reason, several important applications I use for work are popping up messages on the part of the desktop that I can't access. I installed the latest NVIDIA drivers,driver reset might prompt whatever the problem is to go away (and it's good to do that regularly anyways) but no dice.
I am looking to draw a curve for a given set of coordinates using java. For example;
(1,2)
(2,4)
(3,6)
I am aware that a straight line graph can be drawn for a given coordinates using Jfree, but I am not sure about drawing the curve. Any hints on what might be a good java class to use.
I would like an easy way to draw a polygon from a load of xyz points that should be on its surface. Can someone help? Ideally using java 3D but I could use something else. Quick and dirty is fine its just to see a shape. I haven't really done any 3D graphics programming.

Ubuntu Config:
Using 64-bit Ubuntu
Terminal type xterm-256color or putty-256color gives 256-color, but incorrect line characters.
Terminal type linux gives proper lines in aptitude, but only 16 colors.
PuTTY Config:
Using font with Unicode characters. (DejaVu Sans Mono)
Received Data is assumed to be in UTF-8.
Set to use Unicode line drawing code points.

something like IME pad for windows would be perfect. I looked at Anthy and the romanji to kanji works fairly well but it is lacking a direct mouse input method.
