Wondering if someone can lend some insight or point me in the right direction. I'm trying to use OpenSuSE 11.2 to host a master copy of a git repository. I'm guessing that I've still got a disconnect with xinet.d starting the git-daemon in response to a port 9418 request as I never see git show up as a process, even though I see in the message logs, the remote machine making the network request.

I am using vsftp as the server on opensuse 11.2
Currently in order for this to work I have to open a temp rule to allow passive ftp.
Just tried to rsync /repositories/server:/monitoring for SLE 11.1 which is visible through http [URL], but when I browse through [URL] the SLE_11.1 directory isn't there.

The Problem I had is a PPTP VPN connection in windows, Which I used to connect Via a connection, The VPN provider gave me. Since these connection are for MS-Windows , I can't create a connection manually in Opensuse. I used , KDE control module/Network connection/VPN/add -> PPTP then I entered the host ip in NT DOMAIN field , my username, and password, and left all other options (including Gateway) the way it was. After that, every time I try to connect to this connection, NOTHING happens.

I freshly installed debian lenny using the 5 DVD set that I downloaded from debian.org. I want to create a local repository for all packages that are available in DVD so that I do not insert the disc everytime I install a new software. I'm attempting to create the repository in /home/svn/foo with the command svnadmin create /home/svn/foo while in /home/svn.
I am greeted with the error: svnadmin: SQLite compiled for 3.6.20, but running with 3.6.17
I installed subversion via yum install subversion
I've installed SQLite 3.6.22 from source and removed/installed subversion with no change.
What gives? I wasn't really wanting to install subversion from source. Seems a bit excessive.

I did the big update just now and then another update popped up right away. The update is about creating a common metadata repository. I can't see the official name of the application it's trying to install/update. Anyway, when I try to do the update, I get an error that says, "createrepo-0.9.9-4.fc15.noarch requires yum >= 3.2.29-8 : Success - empty transaction"

Now I have, and will have as time goes on, various computers I'll want to install Ubuntu on and point at the repository mirrors (Karmic now, Lucid later). Can I create a modified Live CD that will set up out computers from the beginning with /etc/apt/sources.list pointing at our mirrors, so we don't have to edit it later or tell people to edit it later? I've looked around and not found instructions on how to do it so far.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got my first EC2/cloud instance of Ubuntu up and running. This is my first time really dealing with the server edition. I've loaded Apache, Tomcat, PostgreSQL, and Webmin. I've got a public IP on the instance and it is working. I've opened, for now, ports 80, 8080, 443, and 10000 to 0.0.0.0/0.
I cannot get into Tomcat Manager or Webmin at all through a browser. For Tomcat, I've restarted, stop/started, and verified that Tomcat is running. I installed Webmin all through apt-get commands so any dependencies should have been installed (first time doing it this way), but cannot get to the login screen. But if I just go to the IP, Apache goes to the "It Works." splash page. Did I miss some set up? Is there an internal firewall in Ubuntu Server edition that needs to be set?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm working with a Ubuntu 10.04 LTS system with two network interfaces (both Ethernet). I wish to setup this system such that it is simultaneously connected to my local and an OpenVPN network and able direct traffic between the connections depending on what program is sending the traffic. The problem: Under my current OpenVPN configuration all network traffic is directed to the VPN.

In practice, I would like OpenVPN to operate out of one of my two network interfaces and leave the other interface connected to the local network. Then by default all network traffic should be directed to my local network unless I specify (on a per program bases) that certain traffic should go though the VPN. These two network connections can (should) stay completely independent of each other and do not need to talk to each other.
I am preparing an installation for a network with small subnetworks across the country.As such, I am setting up a central repository, but would like the installation of some machines to turn themselves into mirrors at installation time (at least for their own rpms) to save bandwidth for the rest of the machines in their own sub network.Is it somehow possible to set up a local mirror at installation time?I was watching how anaconda is installing from a repository and saw that it erases each downloaded rpm as soon as it is installed, but thought maybe someone here would have an idea.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am installing a cluster which is hidden from the rest of the world and there is no router either froma general login node. I would therefore require a local repository of the updates to CentOS5.4. When I checked I only found instructions for a full mirror. As I have no room and neither the human resources to setup and maintain a full-blown mirror, this is not a solution. However if I try to find updates for 5.4 to download in a repository-type of way I fail to find a solution. Maybe I am just not looking in the right places.

The file is for a DVB board and I have managed to track down the right Linux fw file for this particular piece of equipment, Could some kind helpful person either explain how to get this firmware file into the Root System directory or even send a link to another site that deals with this sort of problemI've downloaded all the programs via the Ubuntu Software Center that should be able to perform this task however all to no avail.The reason why I posted this thread in this forum board is that it (in my own personal opinion which may be wrong) seems to me to be a security problem

Now is that a error? I didn't press Ctrl-C or anything like that, it just finished that way. I have a local yum repository and I use reposync to sync up my local repository with the Red Hat network. Everytime I pull down the updates from Red Hat I used createrepo with no options but wanted to try the --update to see how much time it would save. Anyone have any ideas why it is it was "Killed"
I have network with Kubuntu server with 5 pcs all of them are using windows XP. The network is already designed for sharing files and folders. I have to create a new user and a share folder, also given permission to that user to access this folder. Now when I try to map it gives following error "The network folder specified is currently mapped using a different user name and password, first disconnect any existing mappings to this network share"

What I want to do is create a program and run it on two separate computers to just get them communicating together over the network on a basic level. I would like to do this in a language that doesn't limit me to a specific OS, this way I can have a linux and windows computer talking. However, I would prefer a language that can be useful down the road as well. My second inspiration, next to networking, is web design and web programming, which I hope to dig into as well eventually.
I'm not aiming to do anything overtly-complicated. One example that comes to mind would be a program that forwards any typed characters on one computer over the network and displays them on the other, and vice-versa. I guess the program would run over TCP/IP. However, it would be nice to learn how to do this in a language that not only works on multiple OSes, but also has the ability to allow me to program my own communication protocol, aside from TCP/IP, down the road. My intention with all this is to learn some network programming for fun.
I am looking for a thorough document that explains:
1) Creating a local repo
2) Using kickstart to access that repo
3) Performing a network install using kickstart
Some background: I have several racks of servers that I need to install Fedora on. These servers CANNOT be placed on the internet; hence the need for the creation of a local repo on some other machine (which will be connected to the servers via a local network). I am not sure how to create a local repo, so that one of my questions.
I'd also like to automate as much of the install as possible and kickstart is the only thing I know of for that. I am no guru with kickstart, but I have used it before to successfully install Fedora Core 6 -- I am hoping there are no great changes with the current releases of Fedora (12-14)?
A local repo of Fedora Core 6 was created by someone (some time ago) on a workstation (running FC6). This is what I've used in the past to install FC6 on previous servers (via a kickstart CD). However, I dont have the documentation on how the repo was created or how the kickstart CD was created I've gleaned some ideas ok kickstart from the pieces I've read on web, but none of it has been specific to the latest releases of Fedora.
I am using an Ubuntu 64 bit desktop. I need to create a network (the way you create a workgroup in windoz). I have two other machines running Ubuntu also and all connected to a 3-Com switch through ethernet. I would prefer not to use DHCP, and just have a simple network where I can share resources like drives and printers.

Internet <---> Router <---> Debian server <---> Windows PC
I want the server and PC to both have internet access, and I want to be able to forward ports from the router to the server. I know how to configure the server to give the PC internet access, but how would I assign an IP address to the server and give it internet access? I have used a very similar setup a few years ago, but I can't remember how to do this.
Currently I am trying to get some fedora shares to simply connect to each other to access a read-only shared folder on a host machine (no security/encryption even required for these files!). I've tried to get a smb network share going but that didn't work (can't connect with nautilus), I've tried a quick fix with daap and rhythmbox so that they can at least access the music, but rhythmbox fails very miserably trying to connect/create that (and mt-daapd didn't help much) - Basically I get errors saying the host is unreachable.
I haven't even set up a firewall yet for this network and already I'm running into these fundamental problems. Currently I'm using Fedora 15. On a whim I tried the "public" folder and had sharing of the public folder over the network enabled - yep, didn't work (and I certainly didn't expect it to). I would be trying some more advanced CLI stuff, setting up an ssh server or something, but the computer-challenged people who have to access these files just want to be able to click something and have it work.For the operational requirements of this setup, a file synchronisation system would work (although highly inefficient since it would mean gigabytes sent over the network).
I am very new to linux.I have a network camera which only has an Ethernet port but no WiFi. Sadly no Ethernet port is available close to the camera.

The WiFi is connection works fine and I am in the internet using the WiFi.But I am wondering about eth0. The network parameters I specified are not the same as the parameters ifconfig tells me.Ip, Broadcast, Mask, nothing is as specified.It would be nice to give the camera a static IP that I can access it always with the same IP from the RaspberryPi.The Raspberry Pi itself gets always a new IP from the WiFi network. How do I get the camera into the internet using the existing connection of the Pi?
I have a small office network here which consists of three machines running Fedora 10 and a dev server running CentOS 5.2. I have no Windows machines, and have no intention of having any. I would like to use the CentOS server as the Linux equivalent to a domain controller in Windows. Use case is simple - I will still have a local root account on each machine, obviously, but I want the three staff users to be network accounts. I want them (like a Windows domain) to be able to login on any computer using their network user credentials and *not* have local credentials on any computer.
I've been Googling like mad on this, but I can't find a definitive answer or a sensible HOWTO for this use case in Linux. Others have suggested I do it all in Samba, but I cannot find an example Samba configuration that behaves as I describe above. Another article I found suggested OpenLDAP.I'm lost. What's the best way to do this with a CentOS controller machine and Fedora 10 workstations? Can anyone point me to some good resources on the matter?
