Asked this on Jul 21, and didn't get any satisfactory answers. Thought i'd ask again before i switch to Ubuntu or go back to Fedora: Has anyone gone to software.opensuse.org: Download openSUSE 11.3 and actually chosen "Installation Medium" as "4.7G DVD", "Direct Link", "32 bit PC", hit the "Download DVD" button and gotten the file "openSUSE-11.3-DVD-i586.iso" which is not 49.0MB?
I mean, the steps above are not rocket science, and not much chance of making mistakes, so i'm not sure how i can get a download popup which specifies that the file is 49.0MB file, if it's not actually that size?

I'm interested in giving openSUSE a try and was investigating the various downloads. At software.opensuse.org: Download openSUSE 11.3 there is the option for a 64 bit download that is 4.67 GB! At Index of /distribution/11.3/iso the size of the file I need for USB is about 681 MB. Before I download, what comes with the 4.68 gig download that is not included in the other that is so massive in size? Other than the iso and the md5, anything else needed to install openSUSE from USB (plan on using Unetbootin)?

I have taken the plunge of trying Ubuntu after thinking about it for a while and I have to say I like what I see so far, it is fast and runs smooth. One thing I am having trouble with is updating drivers or software, I tried to run an app on facebook and I was told I would have to install flash. I have look and found a place to get the driver but I am having trouble downloading it. when click on the link at Adobe I get the following Adobe flash plugin Available from "maverick.partner" source Click on to use the source (which I did) and I am asked for a password? How do I get the password to download and install this file?

how to update my system online (for example my firefox 3.0 to 3.5) but i can't figure out how this possibly works. I tried the "online update" using Yast2 but apparently (according to Yast) there is nothing at all to be patched on my system. I tried to click on the Firefox-3.5.5 rpm in the repository web-interface and open it using "install software" but the process aborts because of unresolved dependencies. Is there an easy way to update software without having to download/install every dependency manually?

I've started having problems with large file downloads. A download will start and after a while freeze. The downloads window reports the correct connection speed and gives an estimated time to complete, but it stays frozen. Small downloads, torrents and surfing are not affected. I can do everything else normally even when the download is frozen. I've checked with my ISP and everything with my equipment checks out.

Since the DVD is only 4.7GB and missing some stuff (e.g. pvm) I decided to download the network install /oss folder for openSUSE 11.2 so that I can install multiple copies locally and keep my bandwidth usage down.
I've downloaded the full /oss folder using wget -r and wget -cr during my ISP's free bandwidth slot (12-8am - and it took 2 sessions to get it all).Wget didn't throw up any errors so why the difference? Is there any (simple) way I can check the integrity of the download?

A while back I set up TFTPD32 and apache on my windows machine to allow installation of openSUSE via PXE. The client machine would boot, drag the kernel off tftp, then start the installation from which was an apache alias to a mounted ISO of the 11.2 DVD. It worked quickly and easily. That is the internationally recognised Condition for Vista to perform its main function: sh1tting the bed. Configuration lost.
Now, in a couple hours of searching and experimenting, I can't find guidance on how to get that same setup back. SDBXE boot installation - openSUSE covers 90% of it, but I don't want the installation to connect to a repo and download new files - soundly killing my internet connection downloading files that are already on the install ISO I'm serving.I want it to find all it needs in the served directory holding the ISO contents. My pxelinux.cfg/default :
default install
prompt 1
timeout 30

I've tried downloading 11.4 64-bit about a dozen times, and it always failed to checksum comparison. I've tried downloading it directly using Mozilla. I've tried that from a mirror (several actually). I've tried using Download Them All to get it and is failed both the MD5 and SHA1. BTW, those fail the checksum as soon as the Download Them All window opens. I've tried bitTorrent. I've tried it on two different machines. I've tried it from linux through Mozilla and Download Them All just to be sure it's not my anti-virus or software firewall.
BTW, in the process of installing a new HD on my desktop, somehow my OpenSUSE linux install has gotten corrupted (or something), so I don't have access to a linux install. Any suggestions how I can get a good download? I'm hoping I can use it to repair my existing install, and to install openSUSE on my laptop.

I thought of suggesting this application to those of you who like writing notes and making your notes funky by grouping them, posting links, dragging images, and tagging the boxes in whichever way you want. IMHO it's easy to handle it and has a sweet interface, so I guess it's worth giving it a try . If you're on openSUSE 11.4, you can download and install it by accessing this link: software.opensuse.org: Search Results.

Check of Suse 11.2 iso Download
I am a bit unsure of checking the iso download before burning to DVD.
'Checksums
Before you burn your CD/DVD images, you should check the files for errors. Two files named *.iso.md5 and *.iso.sha1 are available. These files contains hashes for each ISO image that is available from that download location. The relevant line would look like the following:
8abac6680ecc152f103006b02f9ff67f some.iso
To be sure that download did not contain any errors, you should create this number using MS5 or SHA1 algorithm for your own ISO image.
[edit]
Using Linux
On Linux, run one of the command,:
md5sum some.iso
sha1sum some.iso
If there is any difference between the output of the checksum command and the above number, the download is broken and should be repeated.'
Is some a linux command?
I assume it is run at the same location as the download?

I am trying to download/install the 'Daisy plasma' for my taskbar. After testing Opensuse 11.4 since it was released, I decided to go back to version 11.3. After installing 11.3 I find I cannot add the community repositories, such as Nvidia, Packman, etc. It attempts to download the repository list but gives the following error message : Unable to download list of repositories or no repositories defined. I've used this DVD before and it installed perfectly. I then tried installing 11.3 from a network cd but got the same error when trying to add a repository. At this point I don't know what to do. Joe
