OpenSUSE Install :: Can't Login To Anyone Via SSH When Setup Pam_wheel In Common-auth File
Jul 26, 2011
I have a problem as below:
When i setup pam_wheel.so in /etc/pam.d/su, it runs correctly. But when i set up pam_wheel.so in /etc/pam.d/common-auth (include file), i can't login to anyone via SSH. Details configuration of /etc/pam.d/su and /etc/pam.d/common-auth:
/etc/pam.d/su:
auth include common-auth
account include common-account
password include common-password
session include common-session
Lately I have been receiving this in my auth.log file. It seems to be repeating over and over, and I didn't know if was anything normal or something I should be worried about...
I'm hoping someone can help me out.I made configurations changes to/etc/pam.d/system-auth and /etc/pam.d/login. When these files are configured the way they are, I can't login and/or I can't login in the GUI interface and a terminal. Contents of /etc/pam.d/login
I'm testing upgrading from 11.1 to 11.3 and running into a major roadblock. When I try to ssh to the server after upgrading, I am unable to use password or pubkey auth to connect via ssh with my ldap user due to sshd segfault. I can however connect via pubkey to a local account on the system. Both auth methods work (for local users) when I disable UsePAM in sshd_config, but auth via ldap is required. My configuration works fine on fully patched installs of both 11.1 and 11.3, but not a fully patched 11.1 upgraded to 11.3. I've been at this for a while now trying various things but don't seem to be making much progress..

I can not install the glbic-common file cause it give me a conflicting error (the package is already install but it is somehow not recognize by the system)
I would like to ask:How do I setup LDAP auth of users/groups on Debian 5.0?Is it using LDAP Migration tools? Can be done differently? Using different tool? Some nice tootorial? Some up to date book for LDAP or I need to dig in openldap.org?I'm learning by book which is a lil bit older so Im bit confused.
A few minutes ago I was using google chrome when suddenly the scroll-lock indicator on my keyboard turned on... I pressed the scroll-lock key, but nothing happened, the light remained. I opened a terminal and ran "top" to find what processes were running when I was automatically logged out. I logged back and checked the logs and found the following entries in my auth.log:
Code: CRON[2971]: pam_unix(cron:session): session opened for user root by (uid=0) CRON[2971]: pam_unix(cron:session): session closed for user root
I login as normal user. I can 'su root' fine - password authenticates. However, If I try to run System->Administration->Users/Groups, when it asks for root password, it is rejected. When I run updater, it reports failure to authenticate, but doesn't even ask for root password beforehand. Is there a cached password someplace?
I have installed php 5.3.6-4 on centOS 5.6. When i try to install some modules of php then it gives an error
php53-common-5.3.3-1.el5_6.1.i386 from updates has depsolving problems --> php53-common conflicts with php-common Error: php53-common conflicts with php-common

I have reinstall it twice but each time i get same error.
I recently downloaded a login theme, extracted the archive and in the INSTALL file it says: Use 'gdmsetup' to install.I typed gdmsetup in terminal but command not found message returned. Anyone knows how to set up this theme?
I have installed it as per the instructions on the OpenSUSE help guide (Wine - openSUSE). When I try and run iTunes setup from a terminal at the root login, using this code:wine /home/louise/Download/itunes64setup.exe
I get this error: linux-eqln:~ # wine /home/louise/Download/itunes64setup.exe Trying to load PE image for unsupported architecture (AMD-64) errrocess:create_process starting 64-bit process L"Zhome\louise\Download\itunes64setup.exe" not supported on this environment wine: Bad EXE format for ZhomelouiseDownloaditunes64setup.exe getting iTunes up and running or just syncing an iPhone in OpenSUSE
I ran a full package upgrade and then a distribution upgrade yesterday on a Suse 10 system to bring it up to date. I think it worked out fine, except the boot loader (Grub) reports error 15: file not found on attempted boot.
In the other example, the boot loader was configured to look for the now non-existent kernel and i imagine mine is doing the same: the last example was fixed with a live disc that i dont have any more, and i cant make one because i dont have access to a dvd burner.
My question is this: how do I find what version of the kernel I'm using, and how do I configure the Grub boot loader so it'll work as desired? I've been trying every possible option for hours and hours and I really can't afford to lose my information on there.
My OpenSUSE 11.2 is working fine as samba server, no problems, but I have a problem with KDM.My default init runlevel is set to 5 and every time I try to login at KDM (KDE4), the monitor goes black and returns to the login screen. If I hit Ctrl+Alt+F1 to go to console and start /usr/sbin/console-kit-daemon manually, press Ctrl+Alt+F7 to return to KDM login, everything is fine. What do I have to do to fix this issue?
been using 11.2 with KDE on a Sony laptop since 11.2 was released always ran perfect suddenly I can't login, I get to the login screen type in password it begins to load my desktop, then fails and dumps me back to the login screen I can login as root, all my stuff is there (under /home/me) I tried changing my password, no luck I went to run level 3 and there I can login just fine seems to be something with my KDE profile any ideas where I might find some error messages telling me what's going on?
this seemed to happen when I was running "blender" and making the machine do some heavy number crunching, it actually locked up.
i am having a boot problem with opensuse.i installed a theme named suse-elegant under personal settings(configure desktop)-system administration-login screen.
i had also added vbox users(i ticked vboxusers) under yast-security and users-user and group management-edit-details to make virtual box work.
i want to check that installed theme so i restarted my laptop.after the restart opensuse taking too long time to boot
note:the login theme also not working.
after the boot i restored defaults in login screen themes.it is also not working.
i don't know which cause this problem(vboxusers or login theme).i am also seeing a root user has been added in my login area.i tried opensuse failsafe also.
when I get into the login page, I can only see the background and the login box in the middle of the page just turns whole white and keeps flashing. no response for any clicks. I was force to ctrl+alt+F1 to switch to init 1 to do my work. But I still want to use my graphical desktop either KDE or Gnome is ok. I am using gnome.
I want, when I boot up, to load and log-in automatically a default user. I get a login in screen with the option to login as root, I do not want this. How do disable the option to login to X as root and just load as me/default user?
Every account every option I try. when I login, it just cycles back to the login screen. I have attempted to do a repair install, but to no avail. it happens when I try to boot normally or if I boot into failsafe.
The graphical login screen is loaded just fine. Though very shortly after (a moment after the loading screen could be seen) it crashes back to the graphical login. And that happens no matter what wm I'm trying - gnome, kde3, kde4, e16, e17, even twm.
It happened after the logout after a zypper up yesterday morning. Looking through the list of what packages were upgraded (two machines, both last zypper up'ed last Sunday, checked on the second one after the problem with the first one), the only packages which might be responsible are kwin or qt4.
The graphics card seems to be fine (NVidia 9600), as it happens whether or not I use nv or the propietary driver. Also tried reinstalling it from the repo as well as using the binary blob from NVidia. Has been tested on Windows and games are running fine there, so it shouldn't be the card.
What is strange, is that when calling upon sax2 -r from runlevel three, the initial screen loads nicely, but sax2 crashes back to the cli once one presses 'Change Configuration'. No error messages are being printed.
Any pointers on how I can narrow down the cause (and get it fixed)?
when i login to openSUSE a window named login keyring appears and it asks me root password. it happens everytime when i login. how to fix this problem?
I'm trying to add the -audit option to X Server. I run ps -ef | grep -v grep | grep "bin/X" and get: root 2511 2506 0 10:35 tty7 00:00:09 /usr/bin/X:0 -br -verbose -auth /var/run/dgm/auth-for-gdm-sScn1P/database -nolisten tcp vt7 So I'm thinking that I need to add -audit to the /usr/bin/X file, but I believe that it's binary and created by something else, but I can't find that "something else". How on earth can I add this option? I have opened up 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 files (slight exaggeration) and I've come up empty.
I've set up password-less login for user1 on a Ubuntu machine to login automatically into a Fedora box using the publickey authentication method. Everything is working smoothly. Now, there is a user2 on Fedora but he does not have an account on Ubuntu.
I tried to login as user2 from Ubuntu to but got the following error :
Code:
Predictably neither scp or sftp work either. I have several questions as a result.
1.Is the SSH server rejecting user2 login because I am inadvertently using user1 keys (as I am logged in as user1) ?
2. Do I need to have a user2 account on Ubuntu and public/private key authentication setup with Fedora for user2 to be able to login ?
3. Is there a method I can use to password login as user2 from Ubuntu to Fedora (even though there is no user2 account on Ubuntu) AND still keep password-less login for user1 or do I have to have password-less login for both ?
At present the only way to access the user2 account from Ubuntu is to SSH using the user1 account and then su to user2.
This guide isn't going to be updated anymore, as there is gNatty, and I've switched to Lubuntu. The reason? GDM kept crashing and issues kept coming up that reduced the overall functionality of my own computer. The PPA seems like it changes slightly to where things may break, if something does break, try to run: sudo apt-get install gnome-shell gnome-session again, as it looks like a lot of the time gnome-shell and gnome-session aren't being installed. FIX for issue opening certain applications (like games) Do the following in terminal:
Code: echo "PATH="/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games"" | tee -a ~/.profile Logout and log back in and that should fix the issue. NOTE: You have to do this for each user that logs into the system if they can't access games or that. FIX for .ICEauthority issue! There's another method besides this one, and it involves just installing the following:
Code: sudo apt-get upgrade Lots of text (Reading database. dpkg: unrecoverable fatal error, aborting: unable to open files list file for package `grub-common': Input/output error E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)
