OpenSUSE Network :: Firefox Freezes When Streaming Divx Videos?

Mar 13, 2010

I'm having problems with streaming divx videos in Firefox 3.6 on openSUSE 11.2. Every time I try to load a divx video Firefox ends up freezing, ultimately leading to dialog box giving me the option to terminate Firefox. No matter what plugin I try to use it's the same problem. I've tried mplayerplug-in, which shows a gray background with the Mplayer logo where the video should be but it keeps buffering, once I press play it freezes. I tried the vlc browser plugin which doesn't seem to even recognize anything and I tried gecko-mplayer, which didn't even show the logo and buffering. I tired removing Firefox and all the plugins and tried installing them again to no avail.

Ubuntu :: Firefox Freezing Videos, No Sound?

Feb 24, 2010

Firefox started acting funny. On most video sites, but not all, there wouldbe no sound.Along with this, some of these sites would also have the glitch that videos would play for about 3 seconds, then stop. If I moved the slider to a different point in the video, it would again work for a few seconds, then stop. If I close FF and try to reopen, I get an error message that it is already running, although if I don't leave it openet that message.I then go to the system monitor and shut down the sleeping FF process, and can then restart FF and the problem is fixed for a few hours.

I went to mozilla, installed the tar ball package into /opt/, then double clicked on the shell script named firefox inside the /opt/firefox folder.I go to a few sites that stream videos kind of in a way YouTube does as well. So when I go to play the file which is typically in a jwplayer. Firefox thinks I am trying to open to save the file? It attempts to play the video inside dragonplayer, I just want it to run the video. I have also uninstsalled IceWeasel, running KDE shell. x64.

I don't know why but suddenly Firefox has stopped playing any of the Vimeowebsite videos. I am assuming it has to do with some recent software update (no clue which one.)First of all I want to see if anyone else is having this problem. If it's just me then I will have to solve it the local level although I don't have a clue where to start with this one.I would be grateful to anyone who has also seen this to verify that its not just my system getting funky.

Software :: Flash Videos Vanish In Firefox 3.6.15 When Not Being Viewed / Why Is So - Fix It?

Mar 14, 2011

I've been having this problem when viewing online videos/tv, primarily channel4.com/4od and similar sites.

The videos load up and play with no problems, but if the view is shifted away from the video (e.g. scrolling down the page so the video is no longer visible or switching to another tab or window), after a little while (up to a few minutes) the audio from the video stops and, upon returning to the video window, the video has been replaced with a light grey rectangle. The problem seems to be different from others described here since the videos themselves are running with no problem until the view shifts away from them. Flash-based chat applications have the same problem.

I'm running Firefox 3.6.15 in Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick). All systems updated repeatedly, as far as I know the problem has existed forever. The issue doesn't seem to exist in Chromium, interestingly (but I prefer Firefox...)

Any suggestions on diagnostics to try to find the cause and solution?

I changed anything, I tried to "reinstall" the .so flash plugin... but no luck :S

I also tried to start firefox from command line to see if there's something wrong but nothing...

It's like the loading time for the flash video is infinite.

Ubuntu :: No Sound For You Tube Videos In Firefox After Upgrade To 10.04

Aug 29, 2010

I recently upgraded to Lucid 10.04 from Hardy 8.04, and since then I have no audio when watching You Tube videos in Firefox. I checked the sound preferences and I have sound in other applications, but not for You Tube. Oddly enough, I get sound on You Tube just fine using the Chrome browser, but it's not my preferred browser and I'd really like to get it working under Firefox. In another forum, someone suggested doing a "sudo apt-get install alsamixergui," but that didn't help.Is this some sort of Firefox bug? I googled the problem and others have reported it as such, but I cannot locate a fix. Anyone? Thanks in advance.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Can't Play Videos

Oct 25, 2010

I can't play any of my avi, mp4 or even ogv files.I get audio but no video. This sort of points to a missing codec, but when I go into YaST I already appear to have the necessary ones (doesn't openSuse come with most out of the box anyway?).The file I am currently most interested in is (I believe) an Xvid.I already had libxvid4 but added xvidcore when it didn't work but this didn't help.I have packman in the repos (does it come by default in 11.3?)I installed vlc-qt to see if I could play it with VLC instead of Kaffeine but that didn't help either.

OpenSUSE :: Get Weird Flicker In Flash Videos

Oct 26, 2010

I've noticed a weird thing with flash:

1. When playing flash videos in firefox, they'll flicker with black screen flashing for a split second over the video(This continues throughout the video)

2. However, if I do either of the following, the flicker goes away (only while doing one of these actions):

a. Continually move the mouse over the video (i.e. move back and forth in a "mouseover")

b. Put the mouse over the scrubber circle (which shows time lapsed and allows dragging to change location in video) such that the "hand" cursor appears. Once the cursor changes back to a pointer, it flickers again. but as long as I move the mouse over the scrubber circle, it'll stop the flickering (even without moving the mouse anymore) until the circle passes beyond the cursor again.
