I have gone thru lot of websites and forums to try to enable the wireless connections. Till now I have installed the ndisgtk_0.8.5-1_i386.deb, ndiswrapper-utils- .9_1.54-2ubuntu1_i386.deb & ndiswrapper-common_1.54-2ubuntu1_all.deb. Then I was able to install the windows driver for my wireless card. But still the status is showing as disabled for the wireless adaptor. Please help to make it working.
as the majority of ubuntu 10.04 users I had problems with setting up wireless internet connection too. After reading many forum topics I somehow managed to set up the connection.Now the only problem is that when I restart computer wireless connection is no longer working. Each time I boot Ubuntu I have to go to System>Administration>Hardware Drivers, remove Broadcom STA wireless driver and then install it again. Otherwise the wireless connection is not working and under Broadcom STA wireless driver this message is written:

View 3 Replies View RelatedUsing ubuntu 10.10 (pinguy OS) i connected an ethernet cable from my girl's macbook pro to her lenovo ideapad s10-3t to transfer some DS9 episodes onto it. new enough to linux to have not been able to figure out how to access the files on the mac, so i disconnected the ethernet, and the wireless hasn't worked since. tried everything i know, and googling for a while (as well as searching again on this forum) to no avail.
Just before linking the 2 computers via ethernet, the wireless worked fine on the ideapad, always had; but not so after the ethernet connection that did nothing other than apparently kill the wireless. an "lshw -C network" command tells me i have a BCM4313 wireless card, and *-network UNCLAIMED. also, if i launch "install additional drivers", i see that the proprietary driver is not active.
How could merely plugging in an ethernet cable that happened to be conncected to a MBP running OSX.6 do that? and will that happen again? i thought linux was supposed to play real nice with other OS's, so why did a simple file transfer kill my wireless connectivity? i have no access to internet via ethernet cable, so i cannot just download the driver i need now. shouldn't it still be in the computer still? somewhere? is there a simple solution to this, or has the wireless driver been wiped out by plugging in the ethernet? is this a bug that should be reported?
My wireless was working perfectly until I accidentally let the battery run flat with the machine prevented from hibernating. Upon recovery, there was no wireless available. Checking the Hardware Drivers, I can see the Broadcomm driver as "Activated but not currently in use". Following the copious advice elsewhere I have disabled the driver, rebooted the machine, enabled it again - many times. Still the same message. What is stopping me from activating it? Bit of a noob so.

Once i rebooted however, the drivers are still installed but not activated if you get me? so the wireless card is just not read by the operating system.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI was trying to get the b43 driver work with my broadcom bcm4322 wireless card. I changed the kernel from 2.6.32 to 2.6.38 in order to make the b43 driver to work. When I booted with the new kernel the internet stopped working so I looked for a solution. I don't remember which website I went but it said that I have to re-install the STA drivers so I did that and rebooted and nothing happened. I decided to go back to the 2.6.32 kernel and re-installed the STA drivers. The wireless card (eth1) isn't showing when I run the command iwconfig

I can not get the Nvidia closed source driver to work..when i open the "Additional Drivers" it says that the driver is activated but not currently in use.
Another problem...I can not see my grub nor the Plymouth screen.
I am trying to get my new computer to work with the proprietary nvidia drivers, but unfortunatly I am having some troubles. When I activate the nvidia drivers in jockey and restart the computer, the DE fails to load unity, and no compositing is actually being done. When I check jockey, it says:
"this driver is activated but not currently in use" I have an NVIDIA GT 550M. I can use unity with nouveau, however there are some problems that I have noticed, like not resuming from sleep and some freezing, which I suspect is a result of the open source drivers(could be fixed in an update later). But does anyone know how to get the proprietary drivers to work in the mean time?
I've got an issue where my nvidia drivers won't activate, which is a fairly large problem on my Asus G60VX. The reason it bugs me most is because it won't let me use a second monitor while the drivers aren't activated.
Here's my issue.
Now, I already tried going into Synaptic and removing all NVidia stuff manually, and then reinstalling, but this didn't fix my problem.
I just installed natty today after erasing the previous maverick and windows dual boot.Everything works fine.But there is one problem .The propriety driver for Nvidia seems to be activated but not in use.I still get unity desktop,(couldn't get it before installing the propriety driver).I have tried removing and activating it again but it ended up the same again.I know that this problem has been encountered lot of times,but I searched everywhere and didn't find anything.

Back to Unity desktop, I chose Additional Drivers and activated "nvidia-current". However, after reboot, the info window says this driver is activated but not in use.

However, the Additional Drivers app advises that "No proprietary drivers are in use on this system" and that the driver is activated but not in use. I know other people have complained about this problem, but for me this is breaking 3D content and I can't get compiz to work either. When I try to start compiz manually (compiz --replace), I get this error:

3. Link /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so to /usr/lib/nvidia-current/xorg/libglx.so.270.41.06 - didn't make a difference.
It has been haunting me for weeks and I haven't been able to fix it so far: When I installed the wireless driver 43XX series on my laptop using a wired internet, I saw the wireless network for a while and after I rebooted my system, My kernel(31) got corrupted and I got error "kernel Panic (and some sync error)",Thus I started using an older kernel(14),Now When I install wireless driver or mobile broadband driver(wvdial), they get vanished after the reboot and my mobile device modem isn't detected.But they are installed in my system(as shown by synaptic package manager but doesn't seemt to work) I desperately want to use mobile broadband.

My Wireless isn't popping up in the network tab. I'm running off of a ethernet cable. I tried reinstalling the drivers using Windows Wireless Drivers, it said it "detected hardware" but it didn't really enable my wireless. I'm on Ubuntu 11.04.
View 2 Replies View Relateda Toshiba L650 laptop, and installed F13 x86-64 on a disk partition using install DVD. The wired ethernet on this is Atheros AR8152, and the Wireless is Broadcomm 4313. Both these devices are not supported by default. So, as per instructions on the Linux Wireless site, and some guidance on this forum, have downloaded the Broadcomm driver tar on another machine, copied it onto the Toshiba laptop using a USB device, and then extracted, and ran the b43-fwcutter. The subdirectory /lib/firmware/b43 is created and has approx 3 dozen files. However, the Broadcomm driver is not showing up as an option in the Network Manager (system-config-network) or in the lsmod command output. I tried to manually add it by doing modprobe b43 command - it then begins to appear in the lsmod, but the option to add the Broadcomm wireless driver during a "New wireless Hardware" is not appearing still. I think, at an abstract level, I need to somehow "tell" the system to add the Broadcomm driver - am just not sure how to do so. On the other hand, the Atheros AR8152 has no driver as of now, so the wired Ethernet is also not connecting. how I can download all the required files on a different machine, and then install it on the Toshiba laptop?

Everything installed perfectly but it's not detecting my wireless network so I therefore have no wireless access. My wireless network icon is gray with a red "!" on it; when I click it I get:

I have ubuntu 10.10, and at my house I primarily used wired, and it works fine, and under windows earlier today I was able to locate networks, so my wireless card is working. I'm currently at my girlfriends house, and trying to connect to her wireless internet. When I try to connect, I can't find any networks. I've made sure her network has sharing and discovery enabled, however in my wirelss manager it comes up as blank. There's the option to add wireless manually, but do I really need to go through the trouble of finding the routers mac address and all that, it should just show up?I could switch back to windows to see if I can connect, but I'm almost positive it's just the linux wireless manager..
View 4 Replies View RelatedI arrived in the Central African Republic only to find that my wireless (on an HP Mini 5102) wasn't working -- it didn't detect any wireless networks. So I wiped off Windows and installed Ubuntu 10.10, Luckily, it did! (Partly.) At first, I still didn't get any wireless networks. I messed around with all the various things you have to do to get Broadcom wireless drivers working. Finally, following a forum suggestion, I installed Wicd -- and this did the trick. Not knowing any better, I kept Network Manager alongside Wicd, but Wicd is what works much better. (Is there a reason to un-install Network Manager?)
However, when I try to connect wirelessly to the network at this country's one cafe with wifi (which usually works really well, by CAR standards), the network doesn't appear. At the office, when I open Wicd, it includes a box with the message "<connection name>: obtaining IP address", and bit by bit it connects. But when I open Wicd at the cafe, this doesn't happen -- it just gives me a list of random signals from nearby offices (all secured and low-signal), none of which I can connect to. Any ideas how I could get the cafe network to show up?I'm at the office now, and so it's working. However, in order to get it working I had to restart three times -- Wicd only seems to work about half or 33% of the time. Sometimes I get the message: "Connection failed: unable to get IP address" and sometimes I get the message "No wireless networks detected." Then I try again and eventually it works. So far.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have laptop lenovo T43 with FC11. The wireless is not getting activated (the lamp is not glowing). When I boot to windows, it is glowing. I have tried everything - used iwconfig etc to set parameters etc etc., all without any result, the wireless stubbornly remains in sleep mode. With this in off state, I can not even scan for the networks. When I try to activate it through System->Administration->Network, it says cable unplugged.
