View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently reformatted and dual partitioned to both Windows 7 as well as ubuntu 10.10. Loading works fine and Windows 7 is 100% operational. I cannot seem to get my wireless network adapter to be read by Ubuntus 'Windows Wireless Drivers' gui. Here are the steps that I have done THUS far, to make sure that we are all on the right path. Before I go any further, my wireless network adapter is an old school WUSB11 Linksys Wireless Network Adapter (running version 2.6).
1) Downloaded and installed "ndiswrapper" from ubuntu's main website. I downloaded the common, utils and ndisgtk files and installed them accordingly.
2) I extracted these three files to the desktop of Ubuntu and accessed the terminal page.
3) From terminal I typed "cd Desktop" to change the directory to the desktop.
4) Next, I typed in "Sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper-common_1.54-2ubuntu1_all.deb
Sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper-utils-1.9_1.54-2ubuntu1_i386.deb
Sudo dpkg -i ndisgtk_0.8.5-1_i386.deb"
5) This installed Windows Wireless Drivers gui successfully and I can access it.
6) I have downloaded the driver files for the adapter from the cisco website and searched them for the required files needed.
7) After extracting the .INF file from the "Drivers" directory named "NETUSB.SYS" (I wasn't sure if the other associated files within the same folder needed to be present together with NETUSB so I moved everything to the desktop) I typed in "sudo ndiswrapper -i NETUSB.inf". After accessing the Windows Wireless Drivers gui I have noticed that the 'netusb' driver is present yet under it, the system states "Hardware present: No". This leads me to believe that maybe I installed incorrectly or my "fireware?" is not present? I was reading through the installation guide posted on the ubuntu website that in addition to the .INF file we also need the BIN file(s)? and SYS file(s)?.. The folder with the drivers for my adapter contains a BIN file but it is not within the "Drivers" section of the folder.
9) Upon mousing over the network Icon naturally my hardware is still not present.
10) From what I gather after the system finds the hardware I am to write into the terminal

I am severe wireless problems with Ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop.(Spec below)
I have just performed the first clean install since new. Installed a new Hard Drive as well. The machine and wifi was fine under Ubuntu 9.04.
It is booting much faster now but the wifi keeps dropping off.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI tried to summarize the this as best as possible in the title. I am writing an initial value problem solver in the most general way possible. I start with an arbitrary number of initial values at arbitrary locations (inside a boundary.) The first part of my program creates a mesh/grid (I am not sure which is the correct nuance), with N points total, that contains all the initial values. My goal is to optimize the mesh such that the spacing is as uniform as possible. My solver seems to work half decently (it needs some more obscure debugging that is not relevant here.)
I am starting with one dimension. I intend to generalize the algorithm to an arbitrary number of dimensions once I get it working consistently. I am writing my code in fortran, but feel free to reply with pseudocode or the language of your choice.Allow me to elaborate with an example:Say I am working on a closed interval [1,10]

I am having a little trouble connecting to my wireless network. Running Fedora 10 32 bit.I'm trying to connect to a hidden wireless network. I updated the firmware for my driver but apparantly the driver is still not working. Broadcom has a driver from their website for Linux 32 bit systems. Should I attempt to install it? I read a post where the driver is built into the system kernel. If so I would need to blacklist the one of the drivers. Correct?

I have a Belkin Enhanced Wireless USB Network Adapter Model # F6D4050 v2. The drivers are for windows but the windows wireless drivers app doesnt work. I see a tutorial for a linksys that appears to have the same chipset, but I am not sure if any of the steps need to be modified, also my kernel is a bit different. Here is my kernel:

I am a Windows refugee who discovered Ubuntu as a way to save my files from my virus-ravaged computer. Had no installation discs for Windows, so when I had to wipe my hard drive and start over, I decided to give Ubuntu a try. I've had mixed success, but that's another post...
Right now, the problem is that I installed 10.10 two weeks ago and was able to connect to the Internet with no problems - until yesterday. Suddenly, our wireless network (the only one in the vicinity) does not come up as available in Network Manager. In fact, the entire wireless option disappeared. I know there are many posts and threads on here about this, but weeding through them trying to find an answer is more frustrating than actually dealing with the problem. I know the router works because I can post on this forum from the Macbook. I really like Ubuntu and would like to keep using it, but not being able to connect to the Internet now on top of the other issues I've had is making me doubt I want to continue down this Linux road.
P.S. When I attempted an analysis through System Testing, it said something about there being no proprietary drivers?
my wireless home network is not recognized by my network card (RealTek RTL8190 mini PCI). The post was as follows: "I am using a new computer with Windows 7 , Athlon quad core 2.60 64 bit, 8GB RAM. Internet conection works fine with ethernet but ubuntu does not see my wireless network. card (RealTek RTL 8190 ID: 10ec:8190). Have searched this forum but unable to come up with a fix. I was looking for windows XP drivers to use Ndiswrapper but could not find a list of .inf files. My network is OK and works perfectly in windows and with my 2 laptops. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Additional info: install was done within Windows using WUBI to a separate partition on my HDD. I am new to this and thouroughly confused as to the procedure for installing the drivers if they are in fact available."
I am very frustrated in that I would like to use Ubuntu 10.04 but it is useless without internet connectability. I am new to linux and do not understand where to get the appropriate drivers or how to install them. I wish someone would answer this post and either give me a clue what to do or just say "give up" and uninstall ubunutu.
I have setup bonded interfaces but I'm not at the machine to pull a cable - is there a way I can simulate a failure - I've had a look at ip/ipconfig without anything obvious.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe are having a production setup where we are having one SAN storage and two RHEL machines. Now we have created a SAN LUN, say for example trylun. Now we have mounted the same SAN partition on both the machines of RHEL on the same mountpoint path say for example /trylun. After that we have installed RHEL Cluster suite to create a failover cluster.
Now we will be having one Ingres Database service for which data will be stored in SAN storage LUN mounted on both the machine say for example /trylun. When service on one machine will be down then RHEL Cluster Suite failover cluster will takeover and then it will start the same service on another node and handle the failover. Wether Ingres will run from node 1 or node 2 will not make any difference as both are using shared SAN storage i.e /trylun in our example. So same data storage will be used by both the ingres service on both the servers.
Now I have to simulate the same in my office test environment. But the problem is, in office test environment I will not have SAN server as it is additional cost. And I will have fedora operating system.
So I wanted to know is how can we create a shared file system like SAN in fedora (Is NFS a solution). And after creating the shared file system how can we create a failover cluster in fedora if we do not have Red Hat Cluster Suite.

We have a headless linux server (Debian 5) we use for running integration tests of our web-page code. Among these tests are ones implemented using Selenium, which practically simulates a user browsing our pages and clicking on things. One of these tests is failing now, because it involves starting a flash-based audio player and checking to see whether the progress bar gets displayed properly. The reason this test fails is that there is no way to play the audio, and no sound card on the machine, which has simple webserver hardware.
So, my question would be: Is there a simple way of giving a program the impression that its audio output is being processed, and playback is taking place? I don't have to record the playback, or redirect it or anything like that, just a dummy soundcard, like the dummy X-server we are using, which actually does not need to display stuff.
I have tried using JACK, but it's too complicated, and the documentation does not even answer this very simple question. I also installed alsa on the server; it 'pretends' to run, but when a program tries to play audio, just spews error and debug information having to do with the non-existence of a soundcard.

I have updated to 10.10 and now my ir remote is simulating keyboard arrow keys which is causing problems in applications like Boxee. The weird thing is if I stop lircd it still simulates the keyboard arrow keys.
Does anyone know how to stop the keyboard arrow keys from triggering when the ir remote up, down, left or right buttons are pressed?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI only just installed Ubuntu 11.04 dual booted with Windows 7 which I have been using all this while. On Windows 7, I use a protected wireless network. I also have access to a wired network. Both the wireless and wired network work perfectly on 7.
During the installation of Ubuntu, it asked me to connect to a wireless network, which I could without issue.
However, once Ubuntu 11.04 completed installation, its no longer able to detect the wireless network! It's not even connecting to my wired network.
i was using windows xp..now i partitioned my hp mini and started using ubandu...yeah i have to say its much faster and looks clean...but i am not able to usefi..when i tried searching networks,,i am not able to find any.but at the same time i am able to use wifi from the same net book via windows xp,
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter a few years of being a fedora user on a large network, I final decided to bite the bullet and dual-boot my home desktop (solely XP at the time) with fedora 10 on Saturday. The installation seemed to go well, but I am having a few problems, which solved themselves at one point but have come back and I have no idea why.
- I installed and re-partitioned with the install DVD, giving fedora 20GB. Having read a few guides and forum posts I wasn't surprised when the wifi and ATI graphics card didn't work. They appeared in the output of lspci, but I couldn't change the screen resolution and no wireless card was available.
- I bought a new wireless card a while ago but hadn't had time to put in so used this opportunity to do so (installed it in XP to check it worked) and when I rebooted, guess what, the resolution was what I wanted and I could see all the networks in the neighbourhood. I connected, downloaded/installed the myriad of updates together with a couple of programes through yum and went to bed a happy man.
- This morning (my router needed rebooting and after) I was back to the same as before the new wireless card, i.e. low resolution and no wifi. Having no idea what had happened, I check for loose connections, after that the resolution returned and the wifi worked but I can't see my home network.
I picked up a cheap PC the other day for �20 and it came with a Belkin N Wireless USB adapter. I know the adapter works because Windows XP was originally installed and I could connect with no problems. I wasn't able to connect when I installed Kubuntu so I thought I'd see if I could have any more luck with Fedora....so far, not so good! I realise that this is a fairly common problem, especially for this USB adapter, but I've tried dozens of threads here and elsewhere and still can't get Fedora online.I can see the wireless networks in the list, but if I try and connect then I just repeatedly get asked to enter the authentication details, which I know I'm providing correctly.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just installed Fedora 13 on a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo 3553, after doing some testing in Mandriva 2010.1 Spring XFCE. I am not (I repeat "not") an experienced Linux-user, so maybe I need to get things with a spoon here, but the wireless networking in Mandriva is similar to the one in Fedora, and in Mandriva it worked fine, in Fedora I cant get connected. It just ask me for the password over and over again. Now I am on cabel, and that works fine.
View 12 Replies View RelatedAfter installing Fedora 15 on my notebook, I found that the one thing that I am unable to do is connect to a hidden encrypted wireless network automatically. I've seen plenty of people inquiring about this online but have found no solution. I can set up whatever I want to in my settings (using the old gnome2 interface setup, the gnome3 interface setup leaves the wireless options unconfigurable for some reason so I can't do anything with the "Network Name" dropdown)
All of my settings have been set up using the network manager from gnome2, but that doesn't seem to translate to my gnome3 desktop. So, is there any way to get the wireless to connect automatically on startup? I know my wireless card is working when I start my computer because it shows some of the networks in the area and I can connect to a few of the unprotected networks. This is the only problem I have with gnome3.
EDIT: from dmesg, I find the following: [485.63] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready
EDIT #2: Going into the network settings just to play around with it, I discovered that the network name dropdown box appears to be grayed out, but now it works when I click it (didn't the first time) -- this allowed me to connect to my hidden wireless network. Still however, it does not connect automatically (system default is the hidden wireless network) and I still have the DNS problem
I have upgraded to Fedora 15 but cannot get wireless up and running. When i switch on wireless and choose the connection it tries for 15 seconds before prompting me for the password and continues like this. When i check the device in my network config it shows as being inactive. Ralink device 3060
