Networking :: Cannot Access Web Server On LAN
Aug 15, 2010
I've got a FC13 linux and 3 windows pc's on my LAN. The linux has php/mysql (joomla) installed - acting as a web server. I can ping the linux from any machine but can't access the web joomla installation on the linux with http://ip/joomla or with http://hostname/joomla. Is it a security setting somewhere?

I've been running a Samba server under RedHat 8 for five years without a hiccup. I want to cut over to a F10 box but cannot get shares accessible. smbclient attempts fail over NT password error. SELinux is disabled. Server is visible on the network. Users require no password access to shared data.
smb.conf follows:
# Samba config file created using SWAT
# from UNKNOWN (>)
# Date: 2009/06/12 14:15:15

How can I login to some devices that are behind my Server?
My topology is:
So, what I need is to access these VOIP ATA's web interfaces using port forward not using PPTP connections.
Example:
x.x.x.x:2020 ===>> VOIP ATA1
x.x.x.x:2021 ===>> VOIP ATA2
x.x.x.x:2022 ===>> VOIP ATA3
Where x.x.x.x == >> Static Real WAN IP
VOIP ATA1 IP == >> 10.10.10.47
VOIP ATA2 IP == >> 10.10.10.48
VOIP ATA3 IP == >> 10.10.10.49

I have a laptop with Apache, MySQL, PHP, etc, and I'm able to work on web programming on my local server while at home, connected to my network. But I would like to be able to work on the local websites when I'm not connected to any networks, both for demonstrating a site, or simply working on it.
I was surprised to find that I could not connect to localhost at all without a network connection. I tried my normal Google for a solution, but, of course, that was futile without a network.
Now, I'm at home, and of course, it works because I have wireless. I don't really want to disconnect that to figure it out, so I thought maybe some nice soul here might know how to do this. Surely it can't be hard, can it? But, it's certainly not obvious.

I have installed Ubuntu Server (lamp+openssh) on a laptop in order to use it as a testing web server for my projects. After configuring it I've also installed the GUI to make things easier as I'm not very proficient using just the command line.
I'm using the wireless connection on the laptop to communicate with the router and my main desktop (Windows). I've assigned it a static local IP (192.168.1.99) in order to be able to access the sites on my web server from my desktop, and everything works fine.
Now comes my problem: I need to be able to access those local sites from a remote location (outside of my local network) as well. How can I do that?

I just set up an old PC as an Ubuntu Server. I've got it all connected, and set up the way I want it...here's the problem I can't access my server as long as I'm attemting to access it from my home IP. I can ssh and ping it from both my phone on 3g and another (non-local) server I have SSH access to. Because of how our apartment is set up, each bedroom has it's own separate ethernet connection. The one in the room next to mine goes unused so I set up my server on it. My ISP is Charter, if that matters.

We have installed Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS for file share (Samba) at our local network.
I want to access my local server (Local IP 192.168.1.200) via internet from remote location. I have already installed SSH on our ubuntu server. I understands that using "Putty" we can access our server. Furhter, our Internet IP is dynamic (which is not an issue for us).

I have a server that was set up by a friend so I have a location to save all my documents for work in a RAID array.
It is on a static IP address, I can ping the hub and other computers on the network absolutely fine.
I can't connect to the internet, the router in question is a Netgear CG3101D. Logging into the router I can see that the server is a trusted device and in all the parameters are the same as other computer running Ubuntu Studio.
Does anyone have any tips of how I can find out how to find what is wrong?
It is Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS (Lucid).

I set up an apache webserver on a redhat enterprise server 6 last week. It works fine on the localhost. However, the webpage can't be accessed from the other computer. I didn't modify anything related to 'allow,deny' in httpd.conf. The only thing I've done is I added a rule in iptables to approve the access from a computer with a specific IP address. Since I am quite new to iptables, I don't know if there is anything wrong with my setting.
Even I stop iptables, the problem is still there. I don't know if my setting of iptables is correct. Or, there is anything else that I should do?

I have Debian installed on my laptop. When the laptop is connected to the network via ethernet cord, I can ssh into it fine. However if I switch to wireless, I can no longer SSH in.
I have confirmed SSHD is running.
I am switching between wired/wireless by editing /etc/network/interfaces and re-booting the laptop.
The laptop can connect to the internet, and SSH into other computers on the LAN just fine with either connection. But they can't connect to it when it's wireless.
When it's wireless, the laptop can SSH into itself as well.
My iptables is set to allow everything.
They're both on the same subnet.

I have 2 LANs in my network. They are:
LAN 1: 192.168.0.0
LAN 2: 192.168.1.0
Both LANs, communicate with each other. And both have an application server. In LAN1, I can access the web server, internal and external. At LAN2, only works on the internal network.The rule that I'm using is as follows: iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp -d my_ip --dport 80 -j DNAT --to 192.168.1.254:80
This rule works for LAN1, but not for LAN2. Anyone know what that is can be lockin access?

I'm setting up an old box as a dedicated file-sharing server on the LAN as well as an internet web server for my personal web site but I have no network connection. My computer is connected to a router which is connected to my DSL modem. The router has the Ubuntu box's MAC address as well as a Win7 box, which connects to the internet fine.
Here is what I've tried:
1. Check routing table
Code:
2. Try to add a default gateway to the internet on eth2, this happens:
Code:
3. I edited resolv.conf, which was empty, adding:
4. I edited /etc/network/interfaces as follows:
Code:
Then I type the following:
Code:
And it keeps doing this endlessly because it's not finding the DHCP server, presumably...? This didn't solve the problem and so I attempted another configuration:
Code:
Still, not internet connection and no ability to apt-get anything (says packages not found)
So, this didn't work either. What I've tried should work, especially the route command. Now why won't it work?

I have a weird issue where all of the machines in my office can all connect to our web server, either via DNS or using the server IP directly. However, on my machine, which is using the same network IP as the rest of the office and I know it's not being blacklisted, I can't access the server at all via SSH or web or mail. I'm the only machine running Linux, I've flushed the network cache using nscd, but this made no difference. Can anyone think of what might be going on here?

I've completed the installation of a CentOS server.Running the setup utility as root, ive set up a static IP and installed apache. Now this works ok. I can type in the servers IP address from my browser/putty/winSCP and access the server within the intranet. The problem is that i would also like to access the server using its hostname, e.g. http://centos or whatever Currently i cannot do it. I've searched the forums, edited the /etc/sysconfig/network and /etc/hosts to no avail no matter what i do i cannot access it. i've disabled some services so im not sure if this is the fault.

i have successfully setup PPTPD on my server and I can open a VPN tunnel but my clients can only ping the server's IP, they don't have access to the internet through the VPN.
i have searched different forums and understand that I have to create a route on the server to route packets between the VPN interface and my internet gateway, but I didn't manage to get this work.
here is what my setup looks like:
Code:
root@r31495:~# ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:1c:c0:c7:13:35

My company runs a Windows server. I can connect remotely via a very slow desktop emulator program in VirtualBox or I can just VPN and access whatever files I need. #2 is the preferred option.
So far I have officially setup the VPN and everything. It logs in. It gives me the little lock symbol above the Network Manger icon. I'm connected!
But...
How do I actually access the darn files available via the VPN? We keep most files on a single server for the company. Internally, it looks something like "//Bob/Folder/". At the office I have the shortcut set to the "folder" portion of the above since that's where things are located.
I'm not seeing anything related to the VPN in Nautilus, under Network... squat. I've tried several methods of using the "Places > Connect to Server" function while setting it to "Windows Share" as well. Honestly, I'm unsure if this is appropriate nor what to put in the fields (Server, Share, Folder, User Name, Domain Name) if this is the right place to be.

I cannot access my Ubuntu samba server using windows XP or 7. I keep getting prompted for a username/password. I have created both a unix username with password and a samba username with the same password i used for the unix user. When windows prompts me for the username/password i give it the same one i created on the samba server, but it still will not take it. I know samba is running because i can view the shares but cannot access them without getting prompted for username/password. I just have the one user for now while i am testing, but there will be more.
I am using Ubuntu Desktop 10.04.

Basically, I have a windows 2003 server virtual machine (vmware) inside Ubuntu 9.10.
The Ubuntu machine has IFconfig:
Code: sam@sam-laptop:~$ ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:15:c5:b8:c8:8b
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B)
Interrupt:17
Why can't I ping or simply access the internal server on my ubuntu machine from a another computer on the 192.168.1.0 (slash)25 physical network? Do I need a bridge? Iptables?

I set up my first web server and it works flawlessly -when accessed from external network or from other computers on my lan. However, I cannot access it from the computer where the server is run on. I have found numerous people with similar problems but the flavour I am experiencing is somewhat different and no solutions I have found apply to it.
I have two network interfaces on my server, eth0 (public static IP connected to internet directly) and eth1 connected to LAN 192.168.1.0/24 range. The server is 192.168.1.1. It is connected directly to the internet and serves as a SNAT for other comps on the lan.I added "192.168.1.1 www_server_com" to the /etc/hosts on the server and also on the other machines on the LAN. All the other machines can open website without any problem.HOwever, the server itself only opens website if the address islhost. Internal IP, i.e. 192.168.1.1. gets a time out and so does www_server_com ( I cant use dots as I do not have more than 15 posts on the forum )Here is the firewall script I am using.
#!/bin/sh

I have two nagging problems on one network which I do not have on another elsewhere, both using uptodate Debian servers. The server is on the private subnet behind a router/adsl modem. The symptoms of the one which does not work
1) Users cannot access their web site from lan. If they try, they get to the router web interface, same as if they entered http:10.0.0.138 which is the router's lan address.
2) Users cannot access smtp or pop3 service using the domain name, they can access it only using the servers LAN address.
I fear that I might have not set up the router properly because appart from that the two servers are almost identical but I do not know where I might have made an error.

I'm running an own PPTP Server, but I can't get it to access the internet. All my PCs at home run in the 192.168.0.0/24 net, the PPTP Server has local IP192.168.0.5 and remote IP 192.168.0.80-99. The router to the internet is at 192.168.0.1, and the IP of eth0 on the machine where the pptpd runs is 192.168.0.4. I want to be able to connect to the internet trough that VPN and access my local LAN servers (which works fine so far). I can ping internet and local IPs successfully, but can not access them with a browser, or connect to them in any other way. I have 'accepted' all in/output and forwards.
I am running a Squid proxy on the same machine, and if I do:
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -j REDIRECT -i ppp0 -s 192.168.0.0/24 -p tcp --dport 80 --to-port 3128
I can access the internet through Squid, but of course Jabber/ICQ etc. Won't work then because it just refers port 80. But I want the PPTP Clients to connect to the internet directly, if I don't use that rule it's not possible to load any pages. But pinging works all the time. DNS is also working fine, but I can't even access webpages via IP directly. How can I allow the PPTP IPs 192.168.0.80-99 to get direct access to the Internet with Iptables?
