Hardware :: Let Ubuntu Recognize Microphone?

Oct 22, 2010

I install Ubuntu 10.04 English 32bit version today. 30GiB disk(with another 30GiB free, I newly deleted the Windows there, but don't know how to merge them into Ubuntu)

I can hear audio output. But I can't use my microphone well, I don't know how come. I unmuted the setting in "Sound Preferences -> Input", but still there's problem.

I just want to make a Skype phone call to my family members

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Getting Jack To Recognize Audio From Microphone

Jun 4, 2011

I have had success with operating JACK, but I am still learning... I can get audio through my microphone into ubuntu and can record into audacity without a problem, however, I do not know how to get JACK to recognize the audio from the microphone (through the normal mic jack)... any ideas how I may accomplish this so I don't need to do all kinds of file conversions and imports to set down a vocal track with the tracks I record (via USB) through JACK?

Ubuntu :: Utility That Can Recognize Voice Commands Using Standard Microphone?

Feb 18, 2011

Does anyone know of a utility that can recognize voice commands using a standard microphone?It shouldn't be a desktop utility, but rather just a program that listens for manually configured voice commands and takes predefined actions. All I really need is some kind of daemon that allows me to record a voice command and map it to a specific file with a bash script. If I can just make that part work, I should be able to use the script to do anything I want.

Ubuntu :: How To Get The Microphone To Work - 11.04

May 8, 2011

First click on the speaker on the right hand corner->sound preference->input. Make sure that a input device is selected, the input volume is not muted, or isnt set too low.

Open terminal and enter: alsamixer

press F5 to view all controls bars tab allows you to select a specific bar (the description will turn red)the arrow keys up and down allows you to increase or decrease the property selected

Capture, Capture 1, Input Source, Rear Mic and Rear Mic Boost was what allowed my microphone to work.

Initially I turned everything up until I saw a red square on each bar. Then I played with the Input Source and realize that by setting the first Input Source to Rear Mic it made my microphone work. Then I played with the volumes to reduce the background noise.

I used the 'sound recorder' to test my microphone. I tried skype and the microphone also worked.

AlsaMixer v.1.0.24.2 my configuration

Ubuntu :: Can't Get The Microphone To Work

Aug 19, 2010

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) with Skype, and I can't get the microphone to work. I can hear them, but they can't hear me. I tried the same headset with my Windows system, and it works fine, so the headset is OK.

I looked at "Sound Preferences", and noticed that when I click on the "Input" tab, the area where you can adjust the volume is set at the minimum, and grayed out, so I can't adjust it.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Can't Turn Off Microphone?

Apr 21, 2010

I've got 9.10 installed on a dual boot T-43 Thinkpad.The Thinkpad has a built-in microphone which is driving me crazy. I have a pair of outboard Sony speakers sitting on my desk & the sound of the fan and every keystroke is picked up by the mic and amplified back at me through the speakers. If I turn the volume on the speakers up more than about half way the mic picks up the feedback I get a high pitched squeal through the speakers.I've gone into "Sound Preferences" and muted "Input Volume," but it has no effect - the mic is still picking up and amplifying every keystroke & giving me feedback.How can I turn off the damn mic? (by the way, I do not have this problem if I boot into XP)

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Can't Get Microphone To Work On 10.04

May 3, 2010

I can't seem to get my microphone to work on Ubuntu 10.04. I have a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE PCI sound card. [URL]... Sound card is recognized by System/Preferences/Sound/Hardware as CA0106 Sound Blaster 1 Output / 1 Input Analog Stereo Duplex And sound output works 100% perfectly. I Google'd for hours and did not see anything to fix my microphone. My computer has front headphone and microphone ports and the front headphone port works fine but microphone does not. Also I tried plugging microphone into all the ports on the back into sound card but none worked. Also, I ran alsamixer from terminal and maxed out all volume settings. I wish to get the microphone working so I can play Counter Strike Source with Wine. I am willing to buy another sound card if someone can point out a replacement.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Can't Use Microphone In Lucid

Dec 3, 2010

At some point i probably messed up my sound configuration, and now i cant record anymore.

What works : * I have pulseaudio, i can play sound from several apps simultaneously, eg : mpd + vlc + firefox + skype

Remarks :

* pulse-audio is as system-wide installed.
* I have installed linux-backports-modules-alsa-2.6.32-26-generic
* I have 1 internal sound card (on the main board) + 1 ATI graphic card with HDMI output (and thus a sound chip)
* I have 2 output-plugs (1 normal + 1 headphone)
* I have 3 inputs (2 microphones + 1 line in)
* In the past, i installed a PCI sound card, for testing. It may remains old configuration files related to it.

THE PROBLEMS :

* I can not record. In the Pulse-applet / Volume control, in the tab "recording", in the tab "input device" (i translate from french), i can choose between mic1, mic2 and line in, but none of them has any effect on the volume meter.

* In the the tab "configuration", there is no sound card listed, just the message "no car available for configuration" ... that might show that smthg is wrong ! Notice that in the past (but still under lucid), it used to work. There was here all the cards (internal + HDMI video card) listed.

Output of alsa-info.sh :

Code:
upload=true&script=true&cardinfo=
!!################################
!!ALSA Information Script v 0.4.59

Ubuntu Multimedia :: 10.04 - Cannot Get Microphone Working

Dec 4, 2010

I can't seem to get my microphone working. All the levels are maxed, nothing is muted. I've checked pavucontrol, alsamixer, and sytem-preferences-sound, but according to all that, there is nothing muted, and all the levels are maxed. I'm running ubuntu 10.04. My mic works fine in Windows vista, but not in Ubuntu. I am thinking I may need to update my drivers or something. Also I've gone over the forums but haven't found a solution that works, many of them involve changing the levels in system-preferences-sound, but again, that doesn't work. I've posted the results of aplay -l [URL].

Ubuntu :: Microphone Not Working Correctly?

Dec 28, 2010

I just got a new headset ("Creative Fatal1ty Gaming Headset")to use with some games I play but I can't seem to get it working properly. I've tested it with both Heroes of Newerth and Teamspeak 3 (Linux clients for both of them) and I get the exact same problem in both - it seems to detect the microphone and sound from it, but intermittently. When I test it, people can hear my voice but it drops in and out about every half second (So "Hello how are you" sounds like "He-- ho- -re yo-").On the other hand if I go into the sound recorder everything works fine. But the fact that it's exactly the same problem in both of those other programs suggests to me that it's a problem with the way I have my input drivers/settings set up in Ubuntu but I have no idea how to troubleshoot that. Any suggestions? I can post logs or something but I don't know what to post (I'm still pretty new to Linux).

Ubuntu :: Can't Get Internal Microphone To Work

Jan 26, 2011

Graphics annoyances. I'm having a few graphics problems, here's a quick screen shot: [URL]... Notice the white and red lines at the top of the screen. They seem to go away when I have another window in use over that one. But as soon as I go back to the effected window, it returns to that weird state. Also notice to the left, the terminal at the top and the trash can at the bottom. There are yellow lines on them. I figure that's not normal as well. I managed to fix the problem by simply closing the Chrome app and restarting it. But I assume the problem will arise again some time.

I also notice that a lot of words on my screen are cluttered with strange lines, especially the letters "r", "a", and "i". Here is a good screenshot: [URL]... Here is one last screenshot of the display bars where I'm uploading the pics to, notice how the output area for the URL to the pic is all jacked up: [URL]... Internal microphone. I have an HP DV7 laptop and I can't get the internal microphone to work.
