Programming :: Write A Script That Makes File Executable And Writes A Message That It Has Been Done?
Mar 10, 2010like my alias a retired person, and Its never to late to learn something½ve just installed Ubuntu and found a tutorial online about bash-script.Manage some, but I cant to this one:[Write a script that makes file executable and writes a message that it has been done.If I run the command > <scriptName> <fileName> , then the file fileName should be executable and then it should indicate that fileName have been executable.]
Ive read man pages up-n-down and search the web, and I think I should let the script use chmod and ls -l, but I cant get the hole picture here. Actually I have nothing to show up, so I hope someone could help me with some ideas or a soloution - just to the how it should look.This is my first post, ever, at a forum like this, so please be nice if I didnt follow any rules here, I dont know if you even will answer this post, but at least give me some clues, a skeleton-code ti be based on

Ubuntu :: Cannot Open An Executable File Because Of Executable Bit?
Jun 20, 2010I am running into a snag on .exe files in Lucid. I have Wine installed, but I can not open the file as it is blocked from executing with a window popping up telling me that this file was blocked due to security reasons. I go into the files properties and try to change the permission but that does not help. Is there a way to get around this? Possibly in the terminal as root?

Sep 1, 2010I thought this question's best category would be in the newbie sectionBasically I have a C code, (for simplicity is only prints a few lines), called printx.c that I would like to convert into a binary file so whenever I have to type "printx" in the command line it would execute the programofcourse gcc will give me a binary file if I do a "gcc printx.c", but even the output file (e.g. print.outwould have to be executed following manner./print.outI only ask, because I notice programs like mailx (which is written in C) is a binary file that could be run in this manner (at least that's what I notice on my ubuntu distro)

So I've got two questions here: Where is the running executable/script being run from? RAM memory? If stored in RAM or where ever, is there a way to extract the executable/script from that location? May 9, 2011I downloaded a program called tonespace http://www.mucoder.net/en/tonespace/ which I extracted and then tried to execute the executable file with ./tonespace. This gives me the following message:
bash: ./tonespace: No such file or directory
When I use the command: file ./tonespace I get this: tonespace: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.15, stripped
I dont get it. The file is clearly there, yet when trying to execute it bash doesn't seem to recognize it.
It has permissions rwxr-xr-x and is not owned by root. Am I overlooking something?
