View 8 Replies View RelatedI was using amarok fine with 10.04, upgraded to 10.10 alpha, still worked fine. Decided alpha had a few bugs I didn't like so I completely removed it, installed 10.04 from scratch again (I have two partitions, / and /home, only formatted /). Now I can't get amarok to build for me at all. It plays mp3's no problem but when I try to build my collection it pretends to (takes a few minutes but goes relatively fast compared to what it should take to build) then shows 0 songs. I've already tried deleting amarok inside of /home/user/.kde/share/apps/amarok

I just started using ubuntu after being a long time windows user.
what i find really interesting is that in command line, i can type many programs and commands, eg firefox can be run via command line from anywhere. In windows cmd prompt, im used to having to run the .exe file by first navigating to it, then being able to run the .exe.
what i wanna know is how does linux know all the programs at the command line?
I have been using Linux close to 2 years now. One thing that always bewildered me is audio support in Linux. These days I login to windows only for listening to music. After reading various blogs, i decided to give it a try in Linux with Amarok. There again I am facing a problem.
while i try to scan for music files it is not finding any files.
what I did is as follows:
Quote:
Setting --> configure Amarok --> collection --> scan
I have tried with mp3 .wma format files. While I try to add these files individually, Amarok is able to play those.
I am using Amarok 2.3.2 with KDE 4.4.5. Fedora - 12 is my flavor.
Given below is the log obtained with amarok -debug option
Quote:
TagLib: MPEG::Header:arse() -- First byte did not match MPEG synch.
TagLib: MPEG::Header:arse() -- Invalid sample rate.

The server runs# uname -r2.6.18-128.4.1.el5However, today I executed yum update kernel*due to security advisory. I was just about to reboot the system when I realized that it runs VMWare Server Instance that will most likely fail to restart after kernel upgrade (I had a hard time fixing it after previous kernel update). Now I want to keep 2.6.18-128.4.1.el5 after reboot.I see that new kernel is scheduled for booting:
# cat /etc/grub.conf
default=0
timeout=20

I followed this how to to make a NFS server: [url]
So it means: exports looks like this:
Quote:
Here are some quick examples of what you could add to your /etc/exports
For Full Read Write Permissions allowing any computer from 192.168.1.1 through 192.168.1.255
It means that if sbdy arrives with a linux machine, puts the ethernet cable into the router, then logs as root on his machine, and mount the exports. He can do almost everythg, with permissions chmod'ing ...
Is that LAMP, or i am wrong for nfs kernel servers, the ultimate users/password servers against that to prevent those physical approches /logins?is there good how to ?
I like the convenience of having a music player that manages the placement of my music files based on the tags of the files, sorting into a root music folder with Artist/Album/01 - Track Title.mp3 sort of hierarchy. Previously, I was using Banshee for this feature, as even most of the other gui music players don't have this library management feature. Now, I've been trying to use console-based applications, and I have been using mpd + ncmpcpp fairly successfully. When I download new music, it is downloaded to a specific folder, and that's not part of my music collection. My previous workflow would be to open a gui filemanager at the downloaded folder, and drag and drop those songs onto banshee, which would then make a copy of those files in my library hierarchy. Currently, I'm doing the same thing, using Banshee only as a sort of import program, then closing it and updating my mpd database, and there we go.
If at all possible, I'd like to automate this to something where I can define a watch folder, and when some magical program sees new music in said watch folder, it identifies the correct place for the files to be copied into my heirarchy, renaming folders and files to the correct format. I know I've written a lot describing, but I don't actually think this too uncommon a task, and I'm wondering if anyone has a solution for my problem.
If i use yum update option it upgrades to latest kernel but i only want to upgrade to kernel-2.6.31.6.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently I downloaded the latest 2.6.33 kernel from kernel.org. I had earlier 2.6.29 kernel version installed through Fedora 11 Leonardos.I followed simple steps through url.html and it went fine.I could see new Kernel during grub.conf splash display during dual-boot option. But there are few doubts like as shown below:
Code:
Compiling module in Linux:
$cd /usr/src/linux-2.6.33
$make menuconfig
$make
HOSTCC firmware/ihex2fw
code....
though the process went fine....Is it fine with the last line?Though I can easily boot into New Kernel and can see everything there. why it says "No modules.."
Also, Just for information - "Why we compile kernel?Say I have two kernels now- 2.6.33 and 2.6.29. Whats the difference?
Can anyone explain in simple schoolboy language (age about 5, or thats how i feel), how I can rip my cds, so not breaking law, and add to playlist. No problem playing them, but how do you get to add to the collection or playlist.

Until yesterday, my kernel was 2.6.32-29.
Yesterday, I was offered 2.6.32-30 by the update manager and accepted it.
However, I can't boot up using that kernel. I get no video. (I'm now choosing -29 at bootup instead of -30. It still works.)
What should I be trying in order to get -30 to work?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Lenny with the default kernel 2.6.26. I recently got a wireless card supported by the ath9k driver, so I followed the instructions on this site:http://wiki.debian.org/ath9kwhich had me install a 2.6.32 kernel image from lenny-backports. Everything installed fine without errors, but when I rebooted after the install, after the kernel messages scrolled by and the screen would normally switch to the gdm login screen, all I got was a blank screen with some distorted squares. I used Ctrl-Alt-F1 to switched to a shell and everything looked fine, but when I Ctrl-Alt-F7ed back to X, I got another black screen with distorted images. Any idea what could have caused this from the kernel upgrade, and what I can do?Edit:Here is the end of my /var/log/Xorg.0.log after booting:
