General :: Internet Explorer Not Downloading Files From System Server / Work Around This?

Jan 27, 2010

I have a very simple php web application deployed on linux (centOS4) machine. It creates a file and stores the file in /tmp folder on my linux machine. The path for this file is specified in the href attribute of the link. Ideally when we click this link the download manager should pop up so that the file can be downloaded on client machine.
When i access this website remotely from my window xp machine on firefox it downloads the file properly but when i run on internet explorer (i have IE7 on my windows XP) and click the link, the download manager does'nt pop's up. even when i right-click that link and select save as, an error message pop's up saying "file path not found". possibly IE is not able to determine the linux file path .so how do i work around this. is there some specific way for specifying the linux file paths to be downloaded by IE?

General :: EXT3 FS Error - Unable To Read Inode Block

Feb 8, 2011

I am using Wind River Linux- 2.6.27.18-WR3.0bg_standard. The problem is whenever I execute "reboot, ls, cd" and many other commands the OS prompts me an error-
"end request: i/o error, dev sda, sector "(different sector each time)" and
EXT3-fs error (device sda1):ext3_get_inode_loc:unable to read inode block- inode-4088001, block-4097027
I also executed "dmesg", it also showed similar errors. Has the disk gone bad or the kernel is corrupted?

General :: Kernel Panic - Not Syncing: VFS : Unable To Mount Roof Fs On Unknown-block Error?

Apr 21, 2010

I downloaded the ubuntu-9.10-desktop-i386.iso file from the website, extracted it, and ran the Wbiu.exe file - it prompted to get my info and then restart. Upon restarting, I then had the choice to run Windows or Ubuntu, and I've been running Ubuntu ever since.

I ran into some speed-bumps. Upon entering the Ubuntu option at my start-up prompt, I go to another prompt asking me to choose from: Ubuntu, linux 2.6.31-20 Generic Ubuntu, linux 2.6.31.20 Recovery mode Ubuntu, linux 2.6.31-14 Generic Ubuntu, linux 2.6.31-14 Recovery mode Windows 7 installer Windows Vista installer
I've been choosing the very first one, the 31-20 generic, but just this morning after downloading some programs from the Synaptic and transferring a few Gbs of music, I received this error prompt: Code: [2.879604] Kernel panic -- not syncing: VFS : Unable to mount roof fs on unknown--block (8,2) After that, I've been running the 2.6.31-14 generic installer. I have no idea what any of this means and I've spent time crawling through threads trying to figure it out. I mean, it still WORKS but I just help but think I've done something very wrong. ALERT: SUDO PASSWORD QUESTION

I hope the cautionary sign above has dispelled any annoyed gurus who have answered this question dozens of times before. I've crawled through my fair share of threads concerning this, the best corollary being the following: forum/linux-newbie/157773-solved-sudo-password-errors-usb-internet-issues.html; which, strangely enough, was never really solved. Like the user in that thread, when I access the terminal and type in a command, the next line invariably states "[sudo] password for jacob' -- when I hit enter and type in the long list of possibilities I've read (read: sudo, su, su root, su passwd, sudo passwd, sudo root, et al.), alas, nothing happens but the same statement.

I want to generate a temporary random list from a directory of files and then determine the size of an arbitrary block of files from this list (say 1-25 or 26-50) and add their names to a file along with some other info for each name. I can generate a random list with file sizes like this: ls -l | sort -R | cut -d " " -f 6 but i'm not sure how to add up the sizes of just a certain block of these files and at the same time save the file names.

General :: Debian Lenny 2.6.34 Kernel Panic - Not Syncing VFS - Unable To Mount Root Fs On Unknown-block(0,0)

May 17, 2010

It also spits out something about being unable to access ext2 FS. I googled this symptom and have seen that it is fairly common, but everyone's error seems somewhat unrelated. I used the same kernel configuration as the one that is currently working, to keep things simple.

And here is what my menu.list looks like:

Ubuntu :: Creating A General Purpose Switch?

Apr 19, 2011

I want to create a general switch that I can use to send a signal to my ubuntu server when it is activated/deactivated. Here's an example: I want to know when a certain door is open, so I can have a switch closed when the door is closed and opened when the door is opened. When opened or closed, the computer will receive a signal and I can have some software intercept this signal and process it to my liking (i.e. ring a bell/text message me/email me/etc).

I know I will have to create a simple driver, software to make use of this signal, etc... I am willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen. I'm just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction as far as which interface I should use to communicate with my server (i.e. usb, serial), which references I should read, and any personal experience you have with something like this...

Ubuntu :: What Msg Files Are / How To Stop Them From Downloading

Nov 14, 2010

I've been using PAN for quite some time - recently installed 0.133 from the Ubuntu software centre. Worked fine for a while, no issue. Then, a week or so, it started downloading .msg files in company with the binary files I was getting. Sometimes one .msg file for one binary, sometimes quite a few. It seems to have some correlation to the size of the binary, that is the larger the binary, the greater the number of .msg files were downloaded. This morning, it would ONLY download .msg files. I could see the decoded binary in the PAN viewer pane, but it isn't present on my system. I have made NO changes to any configuration files, other than installing the recommended updates.

How do I correct this? Can anyone tell me what these .msg files are, and how to stop them from downloading? Are there as-good or better newsreaders out there that I can/should try?

Ubuntu :: Remotely Downloading Files Through SSH

Mar 27, 2011

How to set up a script to log on to a server through SSH, copy file from the server to the local machine, and then run a script on the downloaded file. More specifically, I've got a minecraft sever that is run on ubuntu.

I know that I can do
# ssh username@ipaddress
to log on to the server through the terminal.

After this it asks me for a password. Once I type in the password I have access to the directories on the server. How can I set up a script to log on to the server and enter password? Once I do this, how do I automate it to copy a file from that server to ~/Desktop? If I can do this, I have a script that will run from there.

I've learned that I can do
scp -r remoteuser@remotebox:/remote/directory /local/directory to copy files from a server to my local machine, but it still asks me for the server password. how do I make it so that the password is automatically entered?

Programming :: Php Script For Downloading Files?

Mar 23, 2010

I want users of my website to be able to download files from it.

When they request a download, I would like them to see a window with the following attributes: ability to choose where downloaded file goes; progress of the download, and estimate of remaining time; a button to cancel the download.

There are hundreds of sites out there that do this, so obviously it's possible, but can it be done from a php script on the server? If not, does anyone know of a script in java(/script)?

I would also like to monitor when a download failed and succeeded, and if the failure was not because the cancel button was pressed, pickup whatever system information is available about the failure cause.
