General :: Slow Pppoe Connection Using Ubuntu 9.10?

I have a Compaq Presario CQ61, instaled Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows 7 on it.
It works great except the PPPoE connection in Ubuntu, when i dial in Windows my download speed reach up to 91 Mb, rebooted in Ubuntu, downloaded same file from the same server with a speed of maximum 3 Mb, cheked in Windows again 80 - 90 Mb constant. I can't figure what slow's the internet connection in Ubuntu.
(NO iptables configured, NO HTB, CBQ ...etc configured) .
EDIT: I don't have any modem or router. I am using PPPoE directly from my PC. I didn't mentioned that I instaled Ubuntu two times but didn't figured out what was causing the problem, so I instaled Fedora 12 (64), this works fine and the speed reached 85 Mb. I instaled latest Ubuntu 10.4 on the same Laptop, the problem is not solved, the speed reaches up to 3Mb, when in Windows or Fedora reaches up to 95 Mb (yesterday).
PPPOE connection Timed Out-i have downloaded the rp-pppoe utility and installed for PPPOE connection.As per the instruction given with the utility i followed that .i have given pppoe-setup and given all the parameters required like service name , username ,password,firewall as none ,dsn as server an all the option .finally i got the message as congratulation you have successfully setup the pppoe connection.you can use pppoe-start and pppoe-status.
i want to create the wireless pppoe wireless network but it just dont show any help for pppoe connections.i tried with network manager but it works only for eth0 (not for ethl)
I am trying to configure a computer to make it as DHCP server.Well, my current connection is PPPOE.So, I should assign one interface to connect as PPPOE, and the other will be broadcast DHCP server.What configuration shall I apply to the dhcp.conf file?
Currently I use openSUSE but the 6 months release cycle is starting to bug me a bit so yesterday I have tried Debian Testing daily snapshot created on 20-11-2010, using KDE desktop (I am a KDE fun). All goes well until I try to make a pppoe using KDE's module network manager.
I created the pppoe connection with user and password but I got 2 problems: - After I have created the connection it doesn't appear along with "Auto eth0" above the button manage connections. - The pppoe connection is not established (both password and username are correct).
I know that I could use pppoeconf or ceni for that matter, but I am new to debian as I where new to openSUSE 4 years ago and I am still learning, so please don't tell to use them I just want to know if there's a way to use network manager from kde 4.4.5 to establish a pppoe connection (you could name it the GUI way, no worries I like using the console as well). Under openSUSE I have a program called qinternet that helps me with pppoe connection is there something similar under Debian?
I'm trying to setup PPPoE connection to establish my DSL connection, but I got

When I do pppoe-start, it connected but I cannot ping into any destination (even to my modem in the same network). DNS servers are explicitly set in pppoe.conf and resolv.conf. Did I miss anything?
I have this strange problem. I can't setup my PPPoE connection through the kPPPoE. My ISP told me that this PPPoE has something like name server or something like that and i must use some other package to connect.

i am completely new to the world of Linux. But i want to learn it. My problem is , i cannot connect my PC to internet. I have a shared broadband connection which needs username and password to connect to internet. I don't know clearly but its something pppoe connection through wan mini port. or xdsl. I contacted my isp but in Our country (Bangladesh) a very few people use Linux or Ubuntu so they cant help me out. i searched many forums,, googled everywhere but cant make it working. i tried some command like "sudo pppoeconfig" but still dont understand. My adsl modem is in bridge mode. I can connect to internet via pppoe . pppoeconf recognise the pppoe in eth0 and setup a connection and I can use it. How can I setup a pppoe connection using pppoeconf so that it uses wireless ? I set the wireless mode to bridge in modem settings. But, after that the access point stopped appearing in "aps in range" in network manager and I can't connect to it. pppoeconf also doesn't recognise wlan0 as a valid pppoe link . but dat is normal since i don't think it can check if wlan0 is pppoe without wlan0 being connected to the modem's wireless network. How can I connect to Internet with modem in bridge mode and connections via wireless interface of modem? Is pppoe over wireless even possible ? coz the datalink layer of wlan is not ethernet rite?
i have a routed and a PPPoE type internet connection, recently i tried a thing in terminal with the pppoeconf option since the network manager has problems with connectiong to the internet with a pppoe DLS connection, or anyway in my case it does not work. Ok i did the pppoeconf thing i inserted my pass and my user and left the program to do its thing, ok it all worked fine but then i restarted my system and suddenly the network manager did not want to recognize my network it hat as options some weird ipupdown options for connection and when i tried the pppoeconf thing again it did not work. what could i do to reactivate at least one way my connection, if i understood correctly the terminal type connecting and the network manager are two different things. now i am using my router and it should connect but the network manager still does not see the connection.
Is it possible to add the routes to my routing table for dynamic pppoe connections? I have this setup on windows 7 with power-shell scripting and some 3rd party commercial pppoe client called Cfos, but since I'm now trying to move away from windows to Ubuntu and cant use the same programs anymore and its getting abit tricky now. I'm not trying to do any fancy load balancing here just some basic stuff which should be possible. Here is same basic info.
My ISP resets my pppoe connection every 24 hours. However the advantage of this is that I can call out 2 or more simultaneous PPPOE connections through the same modem. I've been trying to use gnome-schedule to create a scheduled task that would dial my pppoe connection automatically. For this I used "sudo pon" command (after configuring the pppoe connection using pppoeconf ). Although the command gets executed, but then it waits for me to enter the password. I want it to be automatic & shouldn't require me/anyone to authorize it. Is there a way to enter this password automatically for the scheduled tasks?
Also, I'd like to use network manager, instead of pppoeconf, for the same purpose. How can I set network manager to dial a pppoe connection at scheduled time?
I am deployed to Iraq and the Earthlink ISP here uses PPPoE to configure a connection to their wireless broadband. His english skills are pretty good and from what I gather, he's got a DSL connection that he's trying to connect me to. He showed me how he does it on a Windows machine but I can't figure it out on my ubuntu laptop. That windows machine didn't need any IP addresses or server names. It only used a username and password to connect. Of course a strong wireless signal detected was also pre-requisite.
I know my laptop works because I've had great success with it here lately, just not on the Earthlink service.I see their wireless is broadcast and I can connect to it. I just can't figure out how to post my credentials and authenticate.I don't see a way of entering my username and password because I don't know how to install (or configure) for PPPoE.I did use the pppoeconfig and got to the part where I add my username and password, but most of what's going on up to and after that, I do not have the knowledge base to use. I cant get my wired internet connection to work. The command 'dpkg -s pppoeconf' returns ' installed ok installed'. My connection is through a router which is probably in a semi-bridge mode and I need to dial a connection to get the net started. The connection Auto eth0 is setup properly with the correct cloned MAC Address (that of my laptop).
I've also executed 'sudo pppoeconf' and ran the whole series of steps which towards the end said that my connection will be set on boot. However, the net doesnt work directly and I dont know how to dial manually either. 'sudo ifup eth0' returns 'interface eth0 already configured'. I tried some 10-15 threads but none worked. Ubuntu is handicapped without internet.
I am using a broadband internet connection. Currently I am using pon and poff commands to start and stop the internet connection respectively. But for these commands to execute I should switch to the root user. I want even a normal user to be able to start or stop the connection. How can I do this?
I have a ppoe internet connection. I was easier and faster to configure it in Yast than in Windows XP. When The provider here sometimes goes through some problems and the connection may disappear and return at any unexpected moment. In Windows there is a icon on system tray that dysplays such information and I know when the connection is gone. It also allows me to try to reconnect manually. Where do I find these information on Opensuse here do I manage to reconnect. In Windows it was also possible to set the connection to re-dial automatically when it was out. It was very useful if it failed in the middle of a download, the system reconnected and the download manager retried until download resumed. Is there some way to adjust opensuse to reconnect automatically when connection fails or some software that does it? Furthermore, is there a good download manager that works in Opensuse that pause, accelerates downloads and retries when connection fails?

I'm trying to configure Iptables and I just want to block everything but http/https. However, my connection is pppoe, so I have the ppp0 interface. Pretty much every Iptables tutorial that I found don't teach how to deal with this kind of setup. I'm forwarding the ppp0 to eth0 and I could configure the input rules and they're working. After this, I need to configure the output but nothing seems to work.

I don't understand what those "state RELATED,ESTABLISHED" rules do. Also, I don't know if this rules are secure, because i'm very confused about the ppp0/eth0 interfaces.
