But I receive the following error message.
sed: -e expression #1, char 27: unterminated `s' command
sed -i 's/EXTRAVERSION =/EXTRAVERSION = -$(date +%D)/g' file would search in the file, file for the string: 'EXTRAVERSION =', and change every instance it finds to 'EXTRAVERSION = -02/20/2010'. BUT IT DOESN'T.It changes it to 'EXTRAVERSION = $(date +%D)', literally. I've tried single and double quotes in almost every possible configuration. Is there any way to tell sed that one desires the command output, not the literal text?

Programming in C.I have two char arrays.char buf1[1024];char buf2[1024];Aren't buf1 and buf2 also pointers?I read in 1024 bytes into buf1 which contain about 300 bytes of characters with newlines. The data is basically a few English sentences. I'm trying to scan buf1 for newlines and then stop at the 1st newline and copy the rest of the data from that 1st newline into buf2.So I run a for loop to look for that new line.

Line 43 points at the snprintf() command.I think the error has to do with the function being virtual and the const after the function definition, however although I have been looking really hard I have not being able to find the reason nor the solution to the problem.
One workaround that I know is moving the block of source withing the virtual function, in the constructor, however having read around (boost library exceptions tutorials) it specifically said that formating of errors messages should not take place withing the construction of objects because we are risking throwing an exceptions and messing up the flow order.

Changing the file extension is easy since there are lot of examples for this.
But now I want to rename my files like this:

I DON'T want an incrementation, just the leading prefix '0_'

I have an awk program that finds all files of a specific filename and deletes them from selected subdirectories. There is logic in the awk to avoid certain subdirectories, and this is initialized via a parameter in the beginning statement of the awk. The parameter should have all of the subdirectory names at the top level. This varies from time to time, so I cannot hard-code the value.I'm having a problem initializing the awk parameter using sed. I'm setting a variable (named subdir) using an "ls" command piped to "xargs". I'm then trying to substitute that value into the awk using the sed command.

I have searched and searched in regards to this documented 'special expression '-l STRING' for the 'test' command, and to no avail, have I found out why it does not work on my system.
The example always given is:
