General :: Run A Headless Gvim To Get Syntax Highlighted Code Converted To HTML?

I want to generate HTML files in batch to show some gvim colorschemes in action. I took my current solution from the script at but this will open open a gvim window for each colorscheme I want to process. So far, the only way I have found to avoid the annoying new windows that pop up every second is to start a VNCserver and set the DISPLAY environment variable to that of the VNCserver so that all gvim windows are sent to the display within the VNC session.However, I would like to know if there is a way I can avoid the whole VNC setup and just run a headless gvim instance that does the conversion and exits, with no windows ever being actually displayed.
I have read where C is first converted to Assembly before its final compilation to binary. Is there a way to do this with Bash commands? I would like the understanding that Assembly allows to Bash somehow.
I am reading Sams Teach Yourself SQL in one hour a day. In this book they work with both Oracle and MySQL to teach you SQL. So I installed mysql on my box and I am creating the empty database they use in this book so I can follow along as I read. I have noticed a few typos in the book and now I have noticed some code errors too. I just don't know enough to fix em. I am working on creating the empty database and I am getting syntax errors when I create certain tables. I have checked both the printed version of the book and the electronic version (which differ slightly) and both give me the same synatax errors. First is Creating the first table of the database. I code primarily in jQuery/JavaScript, and I'm looking for a text editor for Linux that has auto-indent and auto-outdent (seems to be tough to find that). Any suggestions? I've checked Gedit, Cream, vim, Bluefish.None of them seem to have this feature.
I am looking for a text editor that does 1) syntax highlighting2) code folding3) it would be a bonus if I could set which macros were defined and it would show me the source I have tried geany, and codeblocks. Both incorrectly code fold around preprocessor #ifdef and #endif. The gedit plugin doesn't seem to work at all
When ever i open vim, i get the error that the following error: E484: Can't open file/abcd/configFiles/vim/syntax/syntax.vim There was a .vimrc file in my home folder that i have removed.
Still i keep getting the same error. Presently in my home folder there is no .gvimrc or .vimrc file.

Background info: The SHELL has been changed from tcsh to bash Earlier i had created a .vimrc file in tcsh, i have removed the .vimrc in bash SHELL.

I have not defined a user vimrc, OS is redhat 4.6 and after a search and replace the first column in the editor is highlighted yellow and it stays that way as I close and open vim. This is the /etc/vimrc that came on the system. anyone see a bug or a reason it would do that?

I am a Novell (now defunct) CNE tring to learn Linux and am having a lot of trouble finding out where the WB 6-6 is wrong in the syntax for adding local4... the the syslog-ng config file. In the instructions there are discrepancies between commas and simi-comma, they are both in the statements in no particular order. there is no pattern to them. Here is what the book shows:

When I try to input this in the Gnome terminal window to try and find out where it goes wrong I get the following: -bash: syntax error near unexpected token "(" If I can get the correct syntax I belive I can use the info to get past the rest of this portion of the lesson. I am desperate to learn Linux as the only jobs out there for a Novell CNE are migrations to MS, which really sucks, since MS really really sucks.

After doing this, I can access write and read all directories but my terminal shows these folders highlighted and I really dont like this. Is there any way they can look like before (with no highlights)?

I have been working in macromedia dreamviewer for editing html and php files, Just now I moved to linux system by installing xampp , my question is that I need a best html and php editor that supports both the design view and code view as like in dreamviewer.
I switched over from Windows to Linux. I have an external drive that has basically just media files on it. Are there any advantages to converting this to ext3, or should I just leave it as ntfs3?
since some days I have a strange problem with KMail (1.13.5) in KDE4.5.5. When I try to copy some text from an email and past it to any other program (e.g. Openoffice), not only the marked text will be pasted, but a kind of HTML code including the text.

I use a terminal with white text on black background (I just like it better), so I wrote the following line in my .vimrc file: set background=dark
However, gvim has black on white text. How do I do either of the following: Set the background of gvim to black Check in .vimrc if I'm using gvim I tried this: I started up gvim, and typed echo &term. The answer was "builtin_gui". So I wrote the following into .vimrc:

I'm using SSH (with -X specified) from a Ubuntu box to a RHEL4 box and running GVim. It opens as expected in my local X, but the copy and paste via select doesn't work. I cannot select text in GVim and paste in a local window, nor can I select text from a local window and paste in GVim. This works, however, when I SSH (with -X specified) to a different RHEL4 box. Is there something I need to install on the remote machine? I am running Parcellite 0.9.2 on the local box, but closing it doesn't make the problem go away, and it is not interfering with the other box.
I loved Gnome's Nautilus and FTP integration and being able to mount a remote FTP directory as a regular bookmark/directory, and double clicking any remote files to open in any unmodified program. I also loved editing text files with GVim.
However, if I double clicked file on Nautilus to open a text file in Gvim, then saving a file will take about 10 seconds and GVim will hang for that amount of time. The major irritant is that I cannot continue editing while the text editor is waiting for the write to finish, this delay interrupted my workflow and thought process and saving becomes a painful process. The other problem is that I don't think simply uploading a file should take that much time.
I'm aware of GVim's internal FTP support, but they are not as well integrated with Nautilus's FTP and it suffers from the same problem.
So a few question:
Is there a way to make GVim or GVFS to save in background while I continue editing? Why is GVFS so slow? Is there any way to set GVFS to use a single persistent FTP connection instead of creating a new FTP connection each time?
To force myself to use CLI all the time, I've installed Ubuntu Server edition on my work laptop. However, I still want to be able to view PDF ( rendered as normal PDF, not converted to text ). Basically I want a totally CLI environment, except for PDF viewer.
I want to automoate some PPT -> PDF conversions, so I want to run openoffice in headless mode for scripting.
On my machine with X running I can start opemoffice in headless mode via
soffice -accept="socket,port=8100;urp;" -headless
This doesn't seem to work on a server with X not running.

The error doesnt seem to make sense as well, as the point of specifying -headless was so that I do not need X, while this command seems to look for X.
I used wget -r to get all the web pages that were linked from index.html. The pages listed in index.html are all chapters. After using wget -r, all the chapters are now in the same folder on my local hard drive. Is there a way to build the chapters in their proper order into a "long"/"full" web page, rather than simply having each chapter as a link/next link on a previous page?
We have a headless linux server (Debian 5) we use for running integration tests of our web-page code. Among these tests are ones implemented using Selenium, which practically simulates a user browsing our pages and clicking on things. One of these tests is failing now, because it involves starting a flash-based audio player and checking to see whether the progress bar gets displayed properly. The reason this test fails is that there is no way to play the audio, and no sound card on the machine, which has simple webserver hardware.
So, my question would be: Is there a simple way of giving a program the impression that its audio output is being processed, and playback is taking place? I don't have to record the playback, or redirect it or anything like that, just a dummy soundcard, like the dummy X-server we are using, which actually does not need to display stuff.
I have tried using JACK, but it's too complicated, and the documentation does not even answer this very simple question. I also installed alsa on the server; it 'pretends' to run, but when a program tries to play audio, just spews error and debug information having to do with the non-existence of a soundcard.
