I'm looking for a simple and reliable search engine for searching particular content on the files in the storage database. The output will display files' name and their path. Google search found following site:- "List of search engines";[URL]..There are many of them. I have no idea how to make my selection. Could you please shed me some light. Furthermore can a simple shell command do the same job?

I am using find to search for .tgz files modified more than 7 days ago and delete them.find /directory/ -iname backup*.tgz -daystart -mtime +7 -exec rm -rf {} My problem is that find will go through the content of tarball as well and list all content. I want to only search main tarball and delete it if older than 7 days.

am using zabbix open source solution for systems monitoring. I am facing a problem and discussed it on zabbix forum. my post was as "My zabbix server is behaving abnormally, approximately daily from 9 to 12, the server stop accumulating logs. I observed that the server report is RUNNING but it did not accumulate log values and also the machine have no extra load. Its shown in the graph image attached.t the following reply,"database performance?are you monitoring database IO and available database threads? "So any one have any idea that how can I do this as I am using MySQL as backend database on RHEL 3.

I am writing a simple application that will run as user foo (i.e. Ubuntu user foo). However, the application will connect to my database as (database user foobar). IIRC, database users have nothing to do with Linux system users - but I just need to clarify that.So can an app launched to run as user 'foo', connect to a database as user 'foobar'?

How to set the default file permissions on ALL newly created files in linux - but differs in important ways:
I want all files created in (or copied to or moved to) a certain directory to inherit a set of default permissions that is different from the system default.
Rationale: The directory in question is the "intake hopper" for an application. Users in a group place files in the directory, and the app (running under another user id in the same group) takes them and processes them. The problem is that the owner of each file placed in the directory is the user that placed it there, and the permissions are defaulting to "rw-r--r--"; I want to change that to "rw-rw----". The app doing the intake can't do that explicitly, because the user id the app is running under doesn't own the file in question, and the default permissions don't allow the app to chmod on the file! Obviously, the user could do a chmod after putting the file there - but I want to keep the "drop" by the user as simple as possible. (These folks are not linux-literate, they just drag and drop the files from their windows desktop to a (Samba) network share - i.e. they don't even know they are interacting with a linux system.)
umask seems too powerful: I don't want to set default permissions for every file created anywhere by these users - just those created in (or placed in) this directory.

I ran mv -n /desktop /user/local/bin and as a result everything on my desktop is gone. I tried the opposite mv -n /user/local/bin /desktop in the hopes of undoing it but now only one of those directories will exist at one time. What should I do? How badly did I screw things up?

I have successfully migrated my linux install to a new /, /home, /boot partition on my ssd. Everything works fine, except that it won't make the root directory on the right disk. When I change the root=uuid=<drive id> to my new drive everything is fine, but I can't automate that... in other words I have manually typed the uuid of my root-partition for about 100 times now and I am fed up with that how I can save the uuid of my new drive in the startup parameters?

I've got a couple of commercial NAS boxes and I'm wondering if they (ReadyNas duo, DLink DNS-323) or any other NAS is suitable for having their RAIDed disks moved to a software-based NAS. To be specific, I'm a big fan of the (largely) Debian-based Ubuntu. Can the aforementioned NAS drives be migrated to Ubuntu (e.g. using the mdadm Linux command)?
Secondly, is there any commercial NAS that can be migrated over? Incidentally, here is a link to somebody who succeeded in a migration:URL...My specific scenario I'd like to prepare for, is the eventual (sudden) death of one of the NAS motherboards.

I am using ubuntu 8.04. I played an mp3 in totem & meanwhile moved that file to another location. Still I can move slider in totem to rewind or forward the song. Only after the song has been played completely I get message 'location not found'. Does that mean totem copies song into RAM so that it does not have to trouble hard disk for access during entire duration ?

I have just noticed a nice feature in Windows 7 - when you drag a window to the edge of the screen (the mouse pointer must touch the edge), windows offers you to resize the window to exactly half of the screen size. This is actually very handy on the wide screen monitors.
Is it possible (and how) to configure Kde 4 to do the same thing?

i am using rhel5 and i just wanted to see the contents of the initrd image. I have copied that from /boot/grub and saved in /tmp directory. Then i did the following
#mv initrd-2.6.18-53.el5.img initrd-2.6.18-53.el5.img.gz
#gunzip initrd-2.6.18-53.el5.img.gz
#mount -o loop initrd-2.6.18-53.el5.img /mnt
when i gave that, it says "mount: you must specify the filesystem type" Then i included "-t ext2" option in the mount command. Now it says,
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/loop0,
missing codepage or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so
Then i created a ext2 filesystem and did the same thing. But there is no difference.

We copied the directories/files from one filesys1 to filesys2 and since that initial copy have further added more directories/files to filesys2 from another source. How can we compare filesys1 to filesys2 to make sure all files/directories were copied successfully to filesys2? I would like a way to check filesys1 against filesys2 and only show/output when something is missing from filesys2 that exists in filesys1 and not report the additional/extra directroies/files that have been copied to filesys2.

I have two folders such as
nonserved/
folder1/
folder2/
And a served folder via Apache
media/
js/
css/
img/
In the end, I want to include/append contents of /nonserved to /media so that [URL] will be as such:
/media
/js
/css
/img
/folder1
/folder2
I am running Ubuntu Server, I am up for either apache config or symbolic link based answer :) Plus nonserved folder is rather dynamic thus manual symbolic linking to each folder is impossible.
