General :: Include A New Browser In Fedora's List For "Preferred Applications"?

Sep 19, 2010

I'm going to try Firefox 4 in Fedora 13. I would like to do it neatly, meaning it appears as an option in the "System" -> "Preferences" -> "Preferred Applications" settings for all users as "Firefox 4". Moreover, I'd like it not to ever ask to make itself the default browser when it's first run.

Fedora :: Fedora 15: Remove Wireless Network From - List Of Preferred Networks

Jun 21, 2011

I accidentally clicked on a wireless network once and now every time I boot up, it tries to connect to that network and asks for the password. I have to keep pressing cancel and then it connects to my regular network.

I tried fiddling around with the network settings but I couldn't see any place where I could remove that network from the 'List of preferred networks' or at least try to prevent it from connecting automatically.

How to remove this network from the list of preferred networks? Edit some file somewhere maybe?

Fedora :: Repository List And List Of Installed Applications?

Feb 17, 2010

I understand there is a file that stores the repositories' information, but I can't find it!Is there a way I can create a list of what applications have been installed? The idea is that if I am running a backup, finding a way to save the repository list and applications installed so if I am upgrading, or fixing a borked system by re-installing Fedora, I could copy the repo list back, and run the applications list like ode:yum install <cat apps.txt?> and get all of the applications I've installed via Yum without having to remember them all?Is there anything else, outside of /home, I should look at backing up? SELinux settings?

Ubuntu :: Firefox - Open Pdf Files - Doesn't Record Settings About Preferred Applications

Jul 28, 2011

lately I'm experiencing a few issues with Firefox 5.0 on my Ubuntu 11.04 installation. First of all, when I try to open pdf files, I often get a black page and I've to try to reload it many times before I can effectively read the pdf (even for small-size ones).

Secondly Firefox doesn't record settings about my preferred applications. If, for example, I want a file .torrent to be opened by deluge I have to enter manually /usr/bin/deluge because by default it would be opened by gedit. No matter if I select "use as default application" the next time the issue will be present again.

Fedora :: List Of Installed Applications?

Nov 2, 2010

I've been using Fedora 11 x86_64 for over a year and am about to upgrade to Fedora 13 using a genuine Fedora installation CD that I got last summer at OSCON. I've made a full system backup, but before I take the plunge I want to get a list of all installed applications. I have tons of special applications installed, many of which took tweaks to get running. Just in case something breaks so badly that I have to reinstall I want to be sure I can put everything back, even if it takes me several days work.I know I have read about utilities that will generate a list of installed apps, but I can't find any.

Also, how can we get the application activities in Linux OS like running applications name, time of day when they started, duration till the applications were running on system, application version etc.

Is there a way to do this in C/C++.

I am building an app that runs like a daemon and fetches the applications status and sends it to the network admin for him to monitor the application usage pattern on the user computers in the network.

Applications :: Browser Does Not Support Any Flash Player

Jan 14, 2010

I bought a netbook (VPC) which is basic netbook with limited features. It has a basic version of Linux (Linux 2.6.24 platform). My instruction booklet says it does not support Flash (player): Flash - The current browser does not support any Flash players. This will prevent viewing some web pages. Certain major websites have a simplified version on the server which will load up. When I try to play games in flash, it does not work either. Browsing on the web also is very limited, I only see mobile (cell phone) versions? (the instruction booklet does state this though) I cannot even put favorites? Is there a way that I can get Flash installed or a better browser? So I can play games that are on Facebook, etc.? and view websites like a "normal" human being should be viewing them on the web?

This is what I figured out so far:
Wi-Fi
Onboard USB and Ethernet ports
An SD reader
7″ TFT display with an 800X480 resolution
2GB of internal storage
100 MHz processor

Linux with preloaded programs such as internet browser, spreadsheet, word processor, a media player for movies, music and pictures, e-book reader, dictionary, calendar, PDF reader, email, chat, calculator, file manager.

Ubuntu :: Increasing Maximum Number Of Applications In Browser?

Dec 28, 2010

I just installed maverick on my son's netbook, and so far we like the new unity interface. The main issue is that there seems to be a maximum number of apps that can be listed under any particular category in the applications browser. So for instance when he goes to his "Games" category, it only lists applications up through S (he has a lot of games installed).

So far I haven't found a settings panel for unity. There has to be a way to bump up the maximum.

Fedora :: Preferred Apllications And Hidden Files?

Right click -> uncheck hidden files does the trick only for one session. If I hit Open again, they're shown again. How can I set it to not show hidden files by default in the 'open file' dialogue (for all apps)?Second is this:Under preferences, there's an item called 'preferred applications'. This is great, and works ok, but is way too general for me. How can I set that files with certain extensions always open with one app, and files with another extension always open with another app.
