Oct 6, 2010And I mean what the thread title is sayin', when new version of the distribution is released? But I don't think that it would be bad if they all would have some general promo video. I think of it as a nice way to promote your distro and I also think that that kind of promotion would attract more users. As an example, here's the link to Sabayon 5 promo video; [URL].
I find it to be very simple, short but at the same time great. And I like it very much. In my opinion, all that should be said, considering all the facts that is, was said in that video and in a very nice way. I think that there was no inner distro things in it for a reason, if you understand me. Anyhow, my vote goes for that kind of promotion, but sadly I have seen only few of that kind of videos on the net.

Dec 29, 2009When I was running Windows OS on my laptop I was able to buffer and pause movies I watch on Dvix. Now that I'm running Ubuntu, I cannot pause the movie anymore. Whenever I pause it, I have to watch the movie from the beginning. Also, I cannot let the movie buffer to completion.

Feb 13, 2011Yesterday morning all was fine until the Update manager indicated I lacked several updates. After loading them I could no longer get to my Charter.net email nor could I see videos (....., embedded in news websites, etc.)
I have Firefox as the browser. I am new to both Firefox and Ubuntu and am getting the hang of it but this is not a user error nor is the Charter.net email system down (I can get to it on a friend's windows system).
How do I restore my system to yesterday morning without having to try typing code? I thinking 'point/click' type of actions are more my speed.

Jun 3, 2010i'm trying to add a watermark and a credits image to all of my old videos. i downloaded them off videos so they are all flv (h.264?). is there some software that will allow me do simple edits in batches? i know a little bit of python and tried looking at some of the library but they all seem like overkill (and way above my head). so is there a solution besides getting some software and going through all my videos and doing it manually?
they are all mostly the same length, but it would be nice to specify a relative position for my credits. e.g. show a static image for 10 seconds when the video is at 95%

Mar 15, 2011I am having trouble viewing videos with the movie player. It plays the audio just fine but only has flashes of video throughout. I believe it has something to do with the frame rate but I don't know how to change it. I have read about frame drop and it is used on slow computers but my computer is an AMD Phenom x6. What can I do to play this video?

Feb 10, 2010Watching the BBC iPlayer bigscreen (URL>..) in Firefox 3.5 with full screen plays smoothly. But any other combination for example...iPlayer on Opera 10 or Channel 4 Ondemand (4oD) in Firefox then the flash video playback is very stuttering, horizontal tears, just one still image per second, etc.I want to investigate the reasons for the poor playback but where do I start ? cant be hardware because FF is ok at least for iPlayer.
Maybe 4oD has some different encoding of video compared with BBC but how can I tell what the encoding is? How come Opera using the same flash shared object has difficulty but not FF? (I've raised a bug with Opera a few months ago but no joy so far)

Jan 19, 2011I had a memory stick problem over the weekend, and after correcting the problem, I decided to up grade from Linux Mint 9 to Linux Mint 10.
All video and sound functions worked properly prior to changing to Linux Mint 10. Now I can not get any sound out of the speakers, from a CD or a digital file, and a video goes at super fast speed with no sound. I am new the Linux world but learning fast. Data CD's work correctly both in reading and burning new.

Mar 18, 2010setting up a media server on my computer i got sabayon linux running. i have it installed and setup through the guide on the xbmc wiki. the video files are able to play and be seen in libary mode on my computer. but when i turn on the ps3 the media server is visible except when i go into the videos or music folders its empty no files at all.

Or I play my music on my PC, say one song, and the other is high pitched distorted, and rings. I have to exit the program and start it again for it to play nice. Mar 5, 2011When I try to access my personal folder Music by clicking Places>Music I get the Appearance Manager instead, actually if I click on Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos, or Downloads the only thing that appears is the Appearance Manager. I cannot find out why this is happening it happened before and I reinstalled Ubuntu, now it has happened again is there any other way to access those folders besides through Places.
