View 7 RepliesI'm trying to install debian in my surface pro but I can't get the network card configured. I installed Arch before and it's wpa_supplicant package was working just fine until the last update. I was wondering if I could download the wpa_supplicant for debian and all it's dependencies from my windows OS to be able to configure my wireless card properly in Debian.
View 4 Replies View Relatedis there a way to get urls of the packages that have been updated and then download them in another computer? like this feature of ubuntu HOWTO: Download package dependencies for offline installation - Ubuntu Forums
its a simple feature and its present in smart and synaptic, yet its not in yast (or i havent found it yet.
i would use smart package manager but in my home connection for checking for updates ,yast is better ( smart downloads filelist.xml.gz that is very way biger than what yast downloads (though it enables smart to show filelist of package BEFORE installing) .so at home i can check for package update with yast ,buy downloading them is very hard. (my connectioon is very bad (i live in iran) and yast mirrors are NOT the best of servers ,so yast gets interrupted in middle downloading a rpm and the whole process is waiting for me to press retry ,so i cant do updates and installs overnight.btw is there some way to tell it to retry always or a number of times automatically? )
i need the url links of rpms so i download them separately and install them.
dpkg -i package.deb
Doesn't install package if it has not-installed dependencies.
What parameters do I miss to install that package with its dependencies from repository?
I am working on a project that sets up packages on the cloud.
For example, If i want to setup Drupal, i need seperate machines to maintain separate tasks, like mysql in one machine(cloud instance/node 1), apache server in another machine(cloud instance/node 2), etc.
So if drupal.rpm has dependencies apache.rpm(has deps too) and mysql.rpm(has deps too)
Is it possible in rpm package manager(yum) to handle such customizations & above requirement?
I am running Debian Lenny on a Dell Vostro 1500. I have gotten the correct network card drivers up and running however I need to get a network manager working so I can configure my wireless card to use my network. I have downloaded the wicd deb package but how do I install it? Do I use apt-get install and if so how do I get it to see the downloaded file?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm hitting my head against the wall trying to figure out (and find any information on) how to download a package and all its dependencies.I've tried to clean the cache,$ sudo apt-get clean and then download a package and its depednencies, but it doesn't download dependencies that are already installed.I need to do this to install a package on a machine that doesn't see the net.I remember doing this somehow ages ago, and I think I might have even combined the package and its dependencies into a single self-contained .deb using dpkg.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI did a compile and checkinstall of a Debian package (and then deleted the temporary directory tree I compiled in), and had to redo the compile and checkinstall since I screwed up on the dependencies (I think it's item #10) on the checkinstall "menu".
Looking for a quick and dirty shortcut, I was wondering where the post-install dependencies for the packages are stored. Is it in /var/lib/dpkg/status ?
If not, where is the dependency information for installed packages stored?
I am trying to install tilp, a program for the link between a computer and a Texas Instruments calculator. I have downloaded all the packages to a local directory. I tried telling yum to install all the packages at the same time, though, the dependencies still fail to resolve (though they are all in the directory). I don't know if it would be safe to force install without the dependencies (even though I would install them later).

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to install Acidrip I get this message: Package Dependencies Cannot Be Resolved.
Trying to install Acidrip from Synaptic I'm told: Could not intsall or upgrade package. With this additional information:
Depends: mplayer but it is not going to be installed
Depends: mencoder but it is not going to be installed
So, I try to install mplayer and get this message:
Depends: mplayer-nogui but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libx264-67 (>=1:0.svn20090502) but it is not installable
I try to install mplayer-nogui and get:
Depends: libx264-67 (>=1:0.svn20090502) but it is not installable
Now I'm stuck in a point where I can go no further. I really like AcidRip and have been using it for more than two years through all of the upgrades until Lucid.
I've tried installing all of the non-free codecs, both audio and video with no result.
I am in fc13, have installed a package, realise lately that its not really useful. that package install a lot of package for dependency. How can i erase all the package together that was downloaded and installed together with the target package as dependency via yum? actually i have done it using #yum erase `cat /var/log/yum.log |grep "Aug 31 22" |awk '{print $5}'|`as I know when I have installed them.....but is there ant safer and better way?

View 4 Replies View RelatedSometimes i have on some magazines or Internet Zip packages that are the answer of what i am looking for.
Wich tool and how can i do it? c Well, i am in position to say that i had downloaded from Internet or located the package in the Cd or DVD that comes with the magazine.
But now comes the big question. How can i put this package ( install) on my distro ???
Do i have to be a normal user or should it be root or su (superuser) ?
The packages that come with the distro is easy, because i select them and everything is done
As i told before, maybe this is a silly question, but i simple don't know how to install them and i need some of them to leave MS for good.
apt-cache show <package> shows also it's dependencies.yum info <package> does not show dependencies, but it obviously know them. How to ask yum for dependencies of specified package?

Is there an easier way (without using a package manager) to upgrade programs? For example, I just want to upgrade Amarok. In order to do this, I've had to upgrade every one of it's dependencies because they've all had minor upgrades from the versions I already have installed.
Is there an easier way to compile programs and their dependencies manually or are package managers the only way?

I have been using linux for about a year and have run into a new problem I am unable to solve. It started when I attempted to install some packages I needed to get VirtualBox to run VMs. I am on Jessie.
I am unable to install various packages, including gedit, aptitude etc. I do not think it is a problem with my sources.list as my laptop has the same sources.list and I am not encountering the same problems on it. Packages will not install any dependencies. -f install isn't doing anything for me.

I recently decided that I want to install mplayer on fedora 13. Problem is, everytime I try, a new problem arises. I've tried add/remove software, and it said "package download failed, check internet connection" which doesn't make sense because I'm connected to the internet and my connection is fine. So, then I tried yum install mplayer, that gave me an error.
