General :: Finance - Native Application That Can Interface With Mint.com?
Jul 19, 2011
Is there a native Linux application that can interface with mint.com? I like the website, but I would also like to have that information stored locally so I can view it anytime, even if I am not online. Also, is there anyway I can just bypass mint.com altogether and enter in all of my accounts directly and have it periodically update their information?

I am driving Fedora 12 and need to test an application GUI with Python 2.4, 2.5 and 2.6. Python2.6 is native in F12 at /usr/lib... and I have alt-installed 2.4 and 2.5 at /usr/local/lib... Site-packages directories for 2.4 and 2.5 are empty. I have tried different tricks to install gtk-2.0 and pygtk in the site-packages of 2.4 and 2.5. But could not find a working solution.
My latest trial was to download Fedora 7 live and copy from its python2.5 gtk-2.0 and pygtk.* to F12:/usr/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages. Results were as follows:
Python 2.5.5 (r255:77872, May 13 2010, 17:15:51)
[GCC 4.4.3 20100127 (Red Hat 4.4.3-4)] on linux2
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> import pygtk
>>> import gtk

I just upgraded my 11.4 firefox and flash to get rid of an apparent flash problem. Before the packman online upgrade, the event pulldown on yahoo finance didn't work. It behaves the same after the upgrade. I noticed on this site, I couldn't click the cursor into the simple search window. So from openSuse, firefox is third party, adobe is fourth party and yahoo is fifth party. Who owns this problem? The rest of my system is KDE 4.6.0 on HW 686 - 32 bit.

How can I force a Wine application (or Wine itself) to use a specific network interface? I have installed hamachi and am trying to play starcraft over virtual LAN. However, when I run Starcraft with hamachi running, it does not work. I have now determined that hamachi creates a network interface called "ham0". How do I force Wine/Starcraft to use the "ham0" network connection? I have looked into forcebindip but it crashes on wine.

After a fresh install of 10.04, there are many applications which I will never use. I am just scared to remove them, because if I try, I end up losing my desktop interface. And which ones can I safely remove?

I want to set something up so I can have a pen drive and do all of the following:
1) Boot linux from the pen drive on systems that support usb boot devices.
2) boot from a CD that switches over to the usb drive and releases the cd (for systems that do not support USB booting)
3) Optionally run the same pendrive linux installation from windows
a) Huge preference for NO vmware or other emulation/virtualization environments
b) something like colinux or topoligilinux
c) big prefence for doing this with linux mint or at least ubuntu
d) bonus if I can do the windows part without admin priviledges on highly restricted systems like library computers
e) worst case scenario maybe could set it up in one of these ways
1) have cygwin and a seperate linux distro and just mount the home folder of one from the other - but prefer to not waste space duplicating applications etc.
2) I wanted to put a two and three here but I'm out of ideas.

I am interested in running Linux on my Mac Pro (8-core, 24 GB RAM).
What are the main caveats one should expect? Can all hardware be used natively after booting, say Linux or FreebSD?
Does Solaris run on this type of machine?
My use case is mostly Mail, instant messaging, web browsing and network simulation (hence this machine) and I value interactivity under full system load the most. How is interactivity under full load in Linux? My experiences with Debian "lenny" showed delays when task switching of up to 1.5 seconds. May I should look at FreeBSD?

I installed Koala 9.10 with Wubi, and have liked it enough to give it a "native" installation on a partition. I've been looking around at forums, and it seems the most attractive way, with LVPM, hasn't been tested officially with 9.10, and I can't find a post of anyone that has.
So, my question is, does anyone know the best way to upgrade my install to its own partition? My drive currently has 2 primary partitions (main Windows Vista OS, and a recovery) and one extended with a logical drive. I don't know whether to try the LVPM method, or try to just uninstall Wubi and install 9.10 after from the Live CD. But, the reason I went the Wubi route in the first place was the install/Live CD would hang when I got to the screen with the options to check the install disk (I had previously checked the hash, and it was fine), proceed without changing disk, etc. I think that is a problem with the install getting confused with my multiple drives/card readers, and not being able to find the correct one. Wubi had a similar problem giving me something like "please insert disk into drive X:", and I would have to just click over and over, each time X changing from one drive letter/number to the next, until the install just continued when it found the right drive.

On my Acer laptop wit ATI Xpress 1100 I have a native resolution of 1280 x 800, and Linux Mint 8 (of the Ubuntu family) offers that resolution without a problem. However, a few days ago I connected my laptop to my TV, and since then the correct resolution setting has been LOST. It doesn't appear anymore in the Display settings and so I had to choose a lesser resolution - I am now looking at a less sharp screen! How can I delete it? I hope that I don't need to reinstall...

So, I have this application called Impact, it is an explicit time integration Finite Elements code written in Java...
[url]
I untar the pack, and launch the application calling a script, from within the untarred folder,
Code:
This launches a gui which allows me to setup a case, which needs some setup file, tipically some *.in and a mesh file, tipically some *.msh.
Other mode of executuion consists of calling the setup file as argument to Impact.sh script ( CLI execution mode, for g33k5 )
My problem is : I have packed the whole stuff into a Slackware .tgz, that places it in /usr/local/Impact, and placed a calling script in /usr/local/bin,
Code:
Code:
I decided to hack the ImpactGUI_OGL_linux_amd64.sh script from
Code:
Code:
no avail,
Code:
even after adding /usr/local/Impact/bin to PATH... won't go...
I can run this thing from within its directory... but I do not like messing within the directories of my applications, this is why I sent this to /usr/local, and placed a calling script in /usr/local/bin...

I have heard so many good things about linux and I have heard linux mint is the easiest to use. I was really looking forward to my first Linux experience. I was disappointed to be prompted for a username and password after booting to the Live CD for mint 10. The user manual did not show this step. I searched for help on this but the two suggestions I found did not work. One told me to use mint as the username with a blank password. The other suggested using user and pass for these two fields.

I am wanting to add Linux Mint to my computer, but I do not have the room to really do a real install on my computer beside Ubuntu and Vista, so I want to install it on a VirtualBox machine. I have a few questions before I do so. A.) Is all this reversible? B.) It will not affect my current system. Like, if something goes wrong with the install for some reason, it will not affect my current Ubuntu OS, which I will be installing it under. C.) When it asks you to create a hard drive, that is reversible, right? And it's only used when you are using VB? D.) About the hard drive you have to create. I have 2 partitions partitions that I use mainly, my / Linux partition, and OS, which is my Windows NTFS partition. If I create the hard drive on OS, will that mess up the VB?

I just installed Mint Debian version on an old desktop computer, but it doesn't play audio.
At first vlc even had the whole audio menu greyed out; I followed this, downloaded the deb and installed it. It seemingly recognized my card, but upon reboot, everything is still silent - though vlc now has the audio section accessible.
If I go under audio preferences and select hardware, no device is present.
Here's some information. code...
Any idea what to do to get audio? Everything else works, I'd hate having to wipe the partition just for this...

I have installed linux Mint as a first time user on an oldish laptop. How can I prevent it defaulting back to the user password screen when I am not using it for a few minutes? I'd be grateful for some pointers. Better still, can I get it t passwordautomatically?..i.e. remember password. I thought I had completed this step but it goes back to the user login which is quite annoying as I have to keep entering the password.

I recently downloaded Ubuntu, with Windows Vista dual booting. I am fed up because Ubuntu won't work with my Broadcom BCM4312 Network Connector. I have decided that I am going to install Linux Mint inplace of Ubuntu. The only thing I am worried about is: Will Mint give me the option of which partiton to put it on? I know this sounds stupid, but I am being very cautious about not deleting my files and Vista.
