I am trying to write a script to turn my HTPC off automatically and turn it back on again at a specified interval.
I've got the turn on off bit sorted using /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm but I want the script to not turn the machine off if say something is downloading, I am currently watching something etc and i dont think I will have any trouble with that.
But what I would really like to be able to do is tell if my TV is currently on. I dont think anything x11 related would work here and this may not even be possible. Does Ubuntu "know" if it's display device is powered on or not? if so can I interrogate this somehow?
I have a question regarding the configuration of Network Connection. My wired connection is fine right now and when I check the network connection applet, it display active information of eth0. However, when I click the Configure button, the Network Connection window appears but there's nothing in the Wired panel. Should there be a eth0 in that panel? I remember I had one before, but after I messed with some configuration of VPN, my network became unstable and I remove the Network Manager to try to solve the problem. Since then, there's nothing in my Network Connection window, though I can still connect to my router with eth0. Now even after I reinstalled the Network Manager, I still don't get anything.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have learned Linux for a while now, but Linux is continuously surprising me with new stuffs nearly every day... Today I met a really strange problem, that the command "ls" indicates the size of some directories is ZERO, as for /home.
However, there is a directory inside /home, which contains many files/directories.
Even worst, when I tried to create a file under /home, I got the "permission denied" error,
By the way, /home is within the local file system, not NFS share.
I am trying to write a script to copy all of my photos to my backup drive, to finish it i want to scan the backup and check that all of the folders and photos are there. is there a command in linux to do this (theres one (or two) for everything else!!!)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm building a script for my place of employment. The next step in it is checking what the user input was. Determining if they added a part in there or not. The script prompts for a hostname. Hostnames are localhost.localdomain. Now, I want the script to check to see if they put localdomain and if they did, not to add the domain to the /etc/sysconfig/network, but just what they entered. So say the user inputs:
