View 2 RepliesI am using Fedora 13 vm on XP host. It has been working great until today. I am trying to browse websites, yum software, but they do not work.
Ifconfig shows 192.168.91.185 on eth0. The network seems to work fine when pinging the XP host at 192.168.91.38 and ping the router at 192.168.91.1.
However, ping google.com does not. I am not sure what i have done recently that causes this connection problem.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 inside VMware Player running under Windows Vista and I can't connect to the internet or the host computer from the Ubuntu.
I have set all the VMware services to manual (like VMware DHCP Service), but starting them manually doesn't help.
In VMware, the network seems to work (there is a green dot beside the network icon) and I have tried both Bridged and NAT settings.
ifconfig doesn't show the eth1 interface, unless I give it as a parameter (or use -a). I think this means that Ubuntu thinks that the network isn't connected at all.
I had put my computer on standby and when i restarted it, it powered off within a few seconds. I turned it back on and after that i've lost connectivity to internet on Ubuntu 10.04.
However I have VMware (XP) installed and internet/network works on that. I'm a newbie with Linux.

I have tried to edit the connection using System>Preferences>Network Connections. I entered manual settings for IPV4, but whatever i enter there, it doesnt get reflected when i type ifconfig in the terminal window. I tried setting it to Automatic DHCP as well. Doesnt work.
Is it possible to install new slax module (from slax site) on ancient backtrack 2? Or it won't work because of versions? I would like to update tor by installing this module on bt2:

I am using ubuntu on a vm with 2 network eth0 ( internet, getting the ip by dhcp on modem adsl) and eth1 (10.1.1.1). In other vm an windows machine with 10.1.1.2 / 255.255.255.0 / 10.1.1.1 /10.1.1.1). I can ping to linux and windows with no problem. Then to share I used

But I still cant connect to internet on windows vm.
I have Ubuntu Server 10.10 installed which is guest OS on a XP host. The problem is I cannot connect to the internet. I am using bridged network but still it fails to connect. what configuration should I change in VMWare or should I have to modify anything in XP.

I have sound and internet access thru Windows 7. I have sound thru the sound card test but I'm not able to hear cd's. I see the time elapsing thru the cd player but no sound.

I have annoying problem. My setup is the following: debian Linux, 64 bits, VMWare workstation 7 host, with Windows XP running as guest. From Firefox, or Internet Explorer, I am unable to access few sites, for example nvidia.com, osdir. Basically get connection timed out, on the other hand ping works to those sites. Moreover, Slashdot loads very very slow and sometimes gets horrible text-only version.

I suspect it has something to do with routing on Linux, I recall having similar problem long time ago, which was fixed by setting something in /proc.
I tried setting MTU and TCP window size on Windows lower, but did not help
I have RHEL 5 installed on VMware 6.0 and the host OS is Windows 7. My Host is connected to internet using a wireless connection and works on shared IP. Earlier when I had Windows vista as host I have managed to get the internet connection on the RHEL but do not remember how I managed it. Now I need help in setting the internet connection on RHEL. View 1 Replies View RelatedSo, I was playing with Fathom's new Slax Remix with Zen kernel 2.6.33 and decided to try a manual install to hdd and see if it would boot. [URL]. New slax remix is here: [URL]I surprised when after doing the install I ended up with a beautiful and fully functional KDE desktop all in 860MB of space! Although many things will break if upgrading, etc. I was impressed that with KDE running it was only using about 140MB ram! incl cache, etc. And, fluxbox is included too as well as pkgtool, and xwmconfig. The complete How-To I did is in the slax remix thread at above link, and also here [URL].
Hints:
After installing to hdd, usb-hdd, etc.
Grab slackpkg and the gnupg stuff and install any other pkgs.
Be careful about upgrading...
I added kdeadmin pkg from slax module and some other stuff so my install is at 944MB now
and look at output of "free" in screenshot.
I decided to finally give it a try last night and made a Live USB for Slax. It booted up quickly, pretty much everything worked right away, and after getting the Wifi working I decided to call it a night.
My project for today was attempting to install Java, but I haven't had much success. There are modules on the Slax site for this, but a. they are unverified and b. I want to delve into linux further than just downloading everything off a website. I downloaded the latest Java package for linux, which was a self-extracting .bin. I followed steps 1 through 4 here, but step 5 didn't work. I got the error message

However, since this is Slax, Firefox is in a module. To do that part, do I have to use lzm2dir in order to get into Firefox's innerworkings, or what?

For years I have used a Slax live CD on a laptop to clone internal HDDs to USB HDDs. I recently purchased a Sony VPCF136FM laptop with Intel Core i7 CPU. It apparently has USB 3.0 ports. The problem is the USB ports are dead with Slax. There is a USB devise driver available for Windows 7 from Sony but nothing for Linux operating systems. Can this driver be ported to Linux? It is an exacutable (XXX.exe). The chip for the USB Host is from Renesas Electronics (no help there, either). Where can I find a device driver to use with Slax and how would I install it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been using VMware Player for some time to host Fedora VMware images on Windows XP. I have been using Fedora 11 and 12 (both 32 and 64 bit) and recently started to use Fedora 13.
I use as a base the images provided by thoughtpolice. http://www.thoughtpolice.co.uk/
I usually install VMware tools and also keep the images updated (yum update) which sometimes changes the kernel.
I have recently had problems with the snapshots not having a network when I restore them. So far I don't have the problem with Fedora 11 and do have it with Fedora 12 (but used not to). I do have it with Fedora 13.
In each case the problem goes away when I uninstall the VMware tools and comes back when I install them again.
One of the symptoms is that SElinux complains about not being able to do something with /var/run/vmware-active-nics.
It looks to me that something is incorrect in the actions being taken when the snapshot is being restored. It does not happen every time and sometimes the network restores itself.
The network can be restored by rebooting the image.
I'm trying to access the VMWare console from firefox using the VMWare plugin. The problem is that it doesn't work on Firefox version 3.6.8. So how can I access the console?

I currently run a home sever using windows server 2008. On it I'm using VMware to run 2 virtual machines (currently running CentOS (which is Red Hat based) as web and mail servers. It's not a big setup, we only host our personal websites and a couple for some friends. Although server 2008 handles resouces much better than server 2003, it's still running windows, which as we know is far more inferior to a Linux server. I'm trying to convince the husband to let me run everything on Debian, but he wants to run it on Red Hat (which okay, isn't bad but our household is devided. We have long running arguments because he likes his boxes Red Hat based running KDE, and I like my Debian distros running Gnome!)
The host server is running on a standard pc box, it's got a 2.5 gigahertz dual core processor and 3 gig of ram, almost one TB storage. (don't ask why I'm including this drastically important info!) I want to run the entire network on Debian. So that would be the main host running Debian and the two virtual machines also. The host itself would need to run as a file and app server for our home network and the two vertuals as web and mail servers. (we run about 12 domains three of which are under heavy usage with Mysql databases, so we run two servers so we can dedicate more rescources to the virtual server that sucks the most juice.) I was wondering how Debian handles virtualisation and what program(s) would be a good alternative to VMware?
