I'm running a Debian based distro.
When I run ipcs this pops up:
This happens only while KDE3 is running. Regardless of the runlevel, if kdm is not started, this will not show.
By running ipcs -p the PID points to process
Is there anything wrong with that command?
I'm trying to setup file sharing between computer A and computer B on the following diagram.
The green waves denote a wireless connection. The black lines are standard cat5. The grey lines are what happens via the electrical lines in the house.
I labelled them, "There be Dragons here..." since something odd happens that prevented the PS3 from connecting when attached directly, or through a switch, to these adapters. Computers attached to the same connection had dns problems, but manually setting the dns servers resolved the issue for them.
This same approach did not help with the PS3. Installing the router resolved the issue for both computers without manual dns's and the PS3.
So, any ideas how to get this working? I've looked through a few file sharing guides between fedora systems and none of them I can find mention setting anything up across network segments. Both systems are running fedora 11.

View 14 Replies View RelatedMy roommate has a slow ADSL provider, and i have a much faster cable connection. He has his own residential gateway, and as do i. The goal i am trying to accomplish is to share 2 printers (1 behind each residential gateway) and also files between computers on the different LAN segments, but not share ISPs or DHCP servers.
Thus far, i have configured my residential gateway's DHCP server to have control of the 192.168.1.0/24 network and his gateway's DHCP server controls the 192.168.0.0/24 network. We've got a Slackware 13.0 Linux box connected on the 192.168.0.0/24 network which currently just serves a web page and accepts e-mail for a domain. My knowledge of networking fails me here as I'm not sure what piece of equipment i would need to buy to solve this puzzle (bridge or router). I know iproute2 can do wonderful things on Linux, and i figure it would be easier to just shove a NIC or 2 in the Linux box and make it do what i need instead of buying more networking equipment.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to install a program (specifically metasploit), and have it accessible from any directory in the terminal. I have it installed correctly, but I have to travel to the directory it is installed in to run it (by using ./msfconsole ). I want to be able to be in any directory and just run "msfconsole" and have metasploit run. I have to copy the metasploit folder to the /opt/ directory? Maybe the /usr/bin/ directory?

Is there a way that I can redirect the output to the linux diff command or do I have to write the output to a file and then compare that. View 3 Replies View RelatedFor whatever reason, the "Ctrl-Alt-Fn" sequence has no effect on one of my Ubuntu machines; the sequence is interpreted as ordinary input. I need to get the system to a console because I'm trying to do a dist-upgrade and that's going to bounce gdm etc.
Is there some command-line tool that can be used to switch consoles? I have some vague distant memory of that being possible.

I have a debian linux on my server. My disk space is only 10GB. When I check the space usage with discus program, it says:

/dev 120.1 MB 92 KB 120.0 MB 0.1% [----------]
/dev/shm 124.3 MB 0 KB 124.3 MB 0.0% [----------]
But when I use this command:

It says:

Why the stats of discuss is not like du command?
I have a weird/stupid question. How do you know what command would start an application after installing it, if the synaptic package name doesn't match?
For example google chrome and lmsensors. The first appears as Chrome in Synaptic and the second as lmsensors, but to run them you have to type google-chrome for the first and sensors for the second in the console to start them.
When I did locate sensors or locate chrome/chromium, nothing came up in the search that would hint me that I need to run those commands. I had to rely on a google search and look for someone else's answer. Is there a better way, one that I can figure it out on my own?
I'm sick of screwing around trying to script a clean solution to burn multiple files and folders to CDs and DVDs with wodim, growisofs and genisoimage.I'm looking for a high level command line program that uses sensible defaults and takes arguments something like this:[program-name] [cd|dvd] /path/to/dir1/ /path/to/dir2/ /path/to/file ...It should then do all the low level copying and ISO generation transparently and just burn the damn disk!Does anyone have any suggestions? I've looked at several programs but it seems there are too many choices to trawl through and not enough information about them online.

View 6 Replies View RelatedHi, I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal, right?). Switched from Vista a few days ago and I'm already loving it! Feels like I'm using a powerful machine again instead of some rusty, buggy contraption. Anyway, just installed MATLAB off a CD. Installation went fine and program seems to be working on par as far as I can tell (apart from that it crashes when I try to load a .fig, but can get around that).
However, it is not showing up in the Software Centre, even though it appears to be in the applications folder. Attempts to keep it in the launcher bar fail - it stays there but clicking on the icon doesn't do anything. Don't want to have to go the applications folder every time I want to run MATLAB...
When I try to connect a projector to my laptop (already running) and hit the fn+f7 (the designated button for switching screen), nothing happens. I see "no source found" on projector screen and my laptop screen works perfectly. Now if I restart the laptop with the projector connected, I see all the intial booting messages on the projector screen (not on my laptop), then the gnome login screen appears on both the projector screen and laptop (when the login screen appears on laptop it looks like it has lower resolution than my usual laptop resolution). But immediately after I log in, my laptop screen goes blank, and projector screen becomes the only active screen.
If I restart without the projector, again all normal operation on laptop screen is restored.
I feel like I am missing some very silly options. Any help is appreciated.
