View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm installing RHEL 4.x to a hard disk that already has windows 7 enterprise installed. I would like to dual-boot both the OSes. The hard drive size is about 220 GB (of which windows 7 occupies about 50 GB).Now, is there any free and friendly tool that I can download to partition this drive ?RHEL comes with a text mode (disk druid) to partition and I could not figure out how to resize the existing windows partition. So, I'm assuming that I need to abort the linux install now and proceed to boot from another CD that contains a good partitioning tool and then later resume boot from RHEL install disk. Also, what should my partitions look like ? What size should they be ? The system is a new LENOVO with 4 GB RAM on a i5 core processor.I know that I will need atleast 5 partitions. right ?1) /boot2) /3) /home4) swap5) /var

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy windows partition isn't starting up, gives an error and suggests using chkdsk. However, I cant even reach safe mode or command prompt. I can still access my Windows hard drive through Ubuntu.I am wondering I can use a Linux tool to perform a check on this Windows partition? I found the fsck command, but I am confused about the warning about running it on a mounted system and about what exactly is a mounted system.
Can someone please tell me how exactly I wod go about doing a check on this partition? Its currently located in /media/disk.I can right click on the partition and unmount it. But if I do this, will Ubuntu still be able to see this partition? What command do I use to do fsck only on this Windows partition (and not the whole system and other mounted places)? How do I remount the Windows partition so that I can atleast salvage my data easily in case doing a disk check does not help?

Right now i have a HP DL 180 Server with 130 Gb Hard Disk & 8 Gb ram after Raiding0+1. i want to configure Domain Controller Server for my office for 200 to 300 Users. what should the partition size must be mentioned in my 130 Gb Hard Disk, is that going to be Sufficient for ME ?
i am bit confused about /Usr /Var /Boot partitions, as i need to manage perfectly in 130 GB
if i go with 4 Gb swap and remaining for " / " is that will be fine ? should i need to specify partition sizes separately for / tmp /var / usr ..
Does one need to Check the Swap filesystem, from time to time

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm a Windows SysAdmin and we currently have a half dozen CentOS 5.5 machines at my current job. I also use Fedora 14 at home. I've been trying to get up to speed on Linux and feel like sticking with the RedHat derivatives as opposed to trying a new distro whenever something new comes out has really helped me.
I have a job interview coming up and it sounds like something I'd really like. They have an upgrade of VMWare from 3.5 to 4.1 in the works and virtualization is really my focus right now. Anyway the guy told me that they use SUSE and he really doesn't like RedHat. I don't remember how he described it, but he made it sound like it was too specialized and SUSE is more open.
This is the job description. Experience with MS Windows 2000, 2003 and 2008, Active Directory Architecture, deployment and group policies Red Hat and Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise server (SLES), OES NetWare (On Linux).
Experience with multiple virtualization products including VMware ESX and VMware desktop. Experience with tools used to analyze and perform bulk changes to LDAP directory content including Apache LDAP studio and MS Access. Experience with XML, LDIF, VB script., SSL and secure communications, SLP, DDNS, YAST, RPM, PAM., CRON, Sniffer Pro and Wire Shark . Is going into a SUSE environment going to screw up all the good linux mojo I have going on? I like working in Fedora/CentOS now. Is there a real difference?
