View 1 RepliesI have developed a small website using jspx pages. Now i want to host the website to a server which is a linux machine. The linux machine which i m referring to is already hosting some web pages(jspx) through a web server Which is running at port 8888.My first question would be "How would i check which web server is installed in the server?"Due to my little knowledge about linux machine .I have copied some simple html pages to /var/ www/ html location. The pages are getting accessed correctly on port number 80.But how would i go about hosting jspx pages.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have just re-installed Ubuntu 10.04. -The installation went smoothly, completing in approximately 25-30 minutes. All of my hardware, including keyboard, mouse, monitor and network interface has been detected and works properly. I am currently using the machine to type this. I can browse the web using Mozilla Firefox. My network connection does not start and stop; the machine remains connected with no indication that there is a fault with the NIC, and so on. I am able to download files at 150-170kB/s as is normal for me with Firefox.
I have not yet installed a graphical user interface to configure the firewall. I have not in any way worked with any system files. I am using the same hardware that I have used for approximately one year before this with no incident. I first encountered this with my previous install at approximately 3:00 AM (local time,) when I manually started Update Manager and attempted to check for updates in the default repositories. I have not altered the repository list in either the previous install or this new install. The Update Manager is entirely default.
Upon checking for updates, the list of repositories hangs after I believe at least ten lists have been checked. All of the lists checked before this hangup read "0 B" in the downloaded section of the window. It appears that upon checking for updates, no actual data is transferred to my computer. Again, after going through several of the default repo lists, the entire process halts. A wait of approximately ten minutes still reads that the process has not continued. -During this time I am able to browse the web using Firefox, and the OS seems to be responsive and otherwise functional. There is not a slow response from the keyboard or mouse, there are also no graphics glitches. Again, this problem first occurred with my previous install of Ubuntu 10.04, which was up-to-date as of approximately midnight last night. I have reinstalled the OS and the problem persists. The symptoms of this problem are consistent between my previous install and the reinstall.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been google'ing around recently for some good solutions for creating local yum "update" repositories without syncing entire repositories. (or adding hundreds of exclude statements in config files)
I have several boxes with a common base build (centos 5.5/x86_64), one has nagios3, another has apache, and another tomcat6 (also a couple of others) For tomcat and nagios I'm obviously using 3rd party repositories (jpackage, epel, rpmforge to name a few) Everything is installed via RPM from kickstart.
I would like to make an updates repository which contains the updates for everything that's installed (including centos base).
Updates will be downloaded on a separate box, but not sure how to get the list of packages required on that box where the packages are not actually installed. I've looked at reposync and mrepo, but appear to be syncing from what's available rather than what's required.
I was hoping that I can provide an "rpm -qa" output, compare this to a "yum list" or perhaps running "yum check-update" on a list rather than installed packages. I could then use the yum-downloadonly module to get the packages which have changed from available sources.
I have a CentOS install but I have problem with repositories(I guess) because I can install almost basic system programs nothing more. How I can check the repositories list with the url of repo? Are they like in Ubuntu or Debian repo universe etc.? For e.g., I'm trying to install lighttpd from source but I can't get dependencies from the repo such as headers and more...

I'm looking for an easy way to check if some server is down, and then act upon it. This check needs to be done from the backup-server. So if the backup-server thinks the production server is down, then in some bash script I want to execute a rule.
My question: what is an easy way to check another server ?
1. I know about Nagios. It's great, but to large to use here.
2. I could ping the server, put a ping that fails does not necessarily mean the server is down.
I'm using centos. I want to know, how to check that rpm is installed or not (through rpm cmd only).

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install libusb. I've downloaded a file from [URL]. I've unzipped the file; the folder's on my desktop. I've tried to install this, but I'm not sure how. Under installation it says: See the file 'INSTALL'. There are a few files that start with this term: INSTALL.libusb, INSTALL.libusb.in and install-sh. The first two appear to be the same, while the latter appears to be some sort of program.
When I double click it, I get a few options, including "run". I assumed this was the correct way to install the program, but when I hit run, nothing happens. I've displayed this file, but this gives me no additional information. I've tried running it in terminal: nothing. Maybe it has installed, and I just don't know it. How would I even check if it's installed? (I'm only installing libusb because I need it for something else).
how do I check to see if my linux box has a RSA card installed on it?
